Is there some bit of canon or plot that you are ignoring as it is a stupid-assed decision?

Bonus question: I recently noticed my profile for a pup was woefully out of date and needed reworking. Post in with your pups and we'll review their profile and offer any suggestions we might have.

What would your character as a child--say, age 10--think about what's going on with your character nowadays? What would your character five years ago think if they could look ahead to the present?

Welcome to another week. May you crush your to do lists and have fun!

For today's's been hot, like stuck to the vinyl, itchy skin, burning eyes hot. Or your pup just got through with a big fight with someone they care about. Or they know they need to have a talk with said person, but are dreading a fight. Or there is a thing that needs doing but they can't do it quite yet...either way, whatever the cause, your pup is feeling anxious and stressed. What do they do to try and calm themselves?
17 June 2017 @ 10:13 am
...because why not?

What is making you happy recently? Answers can be either as yourself or your pups.
15 June 2017 @ 09:16 pm's midnight somewhere and my morning promises to be busy. Have an early DE.

I just recently finished Seanon McGuire's Every Heart a Doorway, which is a sort of love letter to the many portal fantasy stories of literature. In it, there is a classification system for the various portal worlds:
"Here in the so-called “real world” you have north, south, east, and west, right? Those don’t work for the most of the portal worlds we’ve been able to catalog. So we use other words. Nonsense, Logic, Wickedness, and Virtue. There are smaller sub-directions, little branches, but those four are the big ones. Most worlds are either high Nonsense OR high Logic, and then they have some degree of Wickedness or Virtue built into their foundations from there. A surprising number of Nonsense worlds are Virtuous. It’s like they can’t work up the attention span necessary for anything more vicious than a little mild naughtiness."

Which got me wondering how our canon worlds might sit on the map, and low and behold, I found has already done my work for me.

Today's DE comes from a suggestion by [personal profile] i_am_your_host--thank you!

What would your pups would think of their own canon and how would they deal with canon-puncturing if they haven't been punctured already?
14 June 2017 @ 12:06 pm
 What's in your character's kitchen?
12 June 2017 @ 06:06 am
Good morning and welcome to another week. Got any challenges you're going to crush this week?

As for today's topic, let's talk color and it's use. How is your canon's color palette? Is it bright or is it desaturated like a Snyder film? Do specific colors have meanings within canon? How about the use of color in meta-canon? Feel free to add any details I didn't think of in my questions.

I am up and being functional, so I feel like doing another weekend entertainment.

Taking from the suggestion box, and provided by [personal profile] exiled_heir_of_the_eighth :

What would your pup/pups' favorite film be?

And I'll add, if you can't think of a specific film, what genres or directors might they like?
Fiction is filled with the companion trope, from Pokemon, to Elfquest, to Codex Alera, to Pern. If you character were given the choice, would they accept a companion? I am thinking less, "they would chose X-type companion" (although feel free to give us this) and more would they chose the relationship? Would they chose one that's more pet like, i.e. an emotional put pretty normal bond, or would they want a more intimate bound, such as telepathic dragons or spirits that are tied to their souls?

As ever, feel free to give as short or long an answer as you'd like, as well as take whatever tangents this topic inspires.

1. Happy Birthday to [personal profile] ceitfianna!

2. What’s the nicest present your character has ever gotten? And/or the nicest thing anyone has done for them?
06 June 2017 @ 12:06 pm
What is the subjectivity worst thing your characters did in their lives, and how much do they regret it?
05 June 2017 @ 06:02 am
A great suggestion from [personal profile] ceitfianna :

Based on your character's skill set, how do they view the world? Some examples of the types of awareness might be spatially, emotionally, kinetically, and such like. Or another way to look at it, what are the first things they notice?

(Also, just a reminder for folks and let newcomers know, we have a daily entertainment suggestion box that is open 24/7. It's a great resource for us DE muns and we loves it, especially on those mornings when we are completely stumped for a topic. Post early, post often.)

I am working another garage sale and so you wonderful people are being drafted to keep me entertained.

In Greek myths and plays, the heroes always had a tragic flaw that lead to their downfall. This flaw wasn't always a bad thing, just something that was exploitable or taken to an extreme. Here's more on the idea if you need it.

So, using this, what is your character's tragic flaw?

And since we don't all play heroes, what is your villain's noble virtue, i.e. that thing that might save or redeem them?

Inspired by my reading of Furies of Calderon, and with [personal profile] student_of_impossibility 's help (and by help I mean completely writing the post for me):

Alera has a set of powers called furycrafting, which amounts to elemental spirit magic. Some of those are just like motes of energy. Some are elementals with discrete forms, some of which come close to sentience. They come in all shapes and sizes! Tiny wood nymphs, earth hounds, wind horses, fire falcons, mirroring their human’s looks, just about anything really. Some people name them, some don’t, it’s really up to the person. ps they are totally pokemon

Alera combines traditional Eastern and Western elements into six: wind, earth, water, fire, wood, and metal. Each fury is just one element. Most people only have one, although some have two or even three (usually the third is quite weak). The most politically influential families have all six, all extremely powerful. If you want to know what people can do with different elements, and a little more theory, there’s a list here.

If your character lived in Alera, what would their furies be? Would they have a discrete form? Would your character name them? What type or types? Or would their element be something totally different than the canonical six?

Imagine that your character has just died. (Such a stretch, I know!) What's keeping them tied to the mortal world and preventing them from moving on?
31 May 2017 @ 11:52 am
Your character needs to leave in a hurry and can only take what they can carry. What will they take along -- both in canon, and from Milliways?
30 May 2017 @ 12:06 pm
Talk about your ex-charries -- what did you like about them, what do you miss about them, why did you let them go, who would you consider re-apping? Do include other games, especially if you don't have former pups in Milliways yet.
28 May 2017 @ 09:34 pm
Well it's midnight somewhere and I want to sleep in tomorrow, so here's the DE.

What is something your character is bad at? I'm looking for more mundane things rather than things "they can't do higher maths". Like they're bad at catching things thrown at them.
26 May 2017 @ 07:42 am
Welcome everyone to Iron Mun!

Since this is our first day of play, I will spell out the rules. Don't worry, they're easy.

1) You must comment with the characters you wish to play with.
2) You must then go to other player's comments and give them three things with which to do a bit of writing. Things can be objects, themes, colors, literary genres, tropes, or anything else that strikes your meaty little brains.
3) Players then can use those three things, and you must use all three, to write a fic or save them for an EP at a later date.

Contestants may do this as often as they'd like. Okay, everyone got that? Begin!
