it's summary time, kids!

The continuing adventures of [livejournal.com profile] artsmartscarlet and [livejournal.com profile] timsbooks (which are actually still continuing, but this is more or less where they stand at the moment): an adventure in four parts so far, two of which will be screened tonight.
A word of caution: These are the LONG parts. Part four is promising to get pretty long, but these two combined make a Threadzilla and a half.

one
Jane comes in mid-run, and doesn't seem to have had a good day. Tim wanders over and introduces himself; after Jane does the same, and points out her sister got it worse on the name front, Tim offers sympathy and to put her parents out of their misery. She points out that first he'd have to find them, as she's not even sure where they are. Tim offers sympathy on that front as well, buys Jane a drink on the theory that if you've had a bad day there's no sense in buying your own, and explains his own family situation. Jane declares herself lucky for still being on the first set of parents, rather than having gone through two already. She then determines that she's the normal one around Milliways, at least out of the cross section she's talked to so far.
She then goes on to explain her brief stint as a pizza critic (I don't know that that list is archived anywhere; it was on MTV's Daria site for a while), and why she had such a crap day; her slacker-narcoleptic brother was awake enough to try and be protective. Since the source of the argument was Jane filing a job application, Tim asks whether Trent works at all, so Jane summarizes Mystik Spiral for him.
By this point, Jane's mood has evened out quite a bit. She thanks Tim for his help on that front, and then the conversation gets a little deep; Tim's starting to wonder if figuring out what fandoms stories the bar's other magic users come from might help sort out whether the types of magic interact at all, and how well they do so. There is theorizing on why all these people are in Milliways in the first place, and whether there's any sort of fandom stories out there about Jane or Tim. Jane figures anyone at the bar is fair game, but that she'd only have a bit part in whatever's out there about Lawndale (the irony burns like a very hot thing).
The conversation changes directions once again when Tim mentions he got to the bar thanks to one of his teachers. Jane hasn't had any teachers that're that cool, but she certainly got an interesting mix in high school. She also tells Tim her perception of [livejournal.com profile] giftedthom, and Tim decides he'll have to meet this guy (which has been on hold due to Thom's RPer vacationing).
Jane mentions one of the stranger money-grabbing ideas Lawndale High's principal came up with, and the one really worthwhile thing from it: soda-can uniforms for the cheerleaders. (Don't believe me? Here's a screencap.) She also tells him about some projects she had for school (read: I basically summarize two episodes of the show).
The conversation goes deep again when Jane points out that while Daria's mom may be a workaholic lawyer, she really does care about her family, somewhere in there - something neither of them really have. Jane mentions that her entire extended family hates the branch that includes her parents and siblings. Tim's family doesn't like him either, but the problem there is a crap cover story for an even weirder truth. Since it's a bit too late for recovery on that end, Tim declares Milliways his substitute family. The two of them work out where Constantine and Death fit into that theory, and then try to figure out where they fit in. Jane decides the 'black sheep,' such as there are at Milliways, are some of the ethereals or Joe Dick, depending on who and when you ask. Tim apparently missed the Jamee Incident, so Jane fills him in on what little she's picked up from the rumor mill.
After a brief stopover at Quick Reminder Service, things pick up again. There may or may not be flirting, but that's as far as it gets; Tim has to go home.
And this thread is now complete!

two
Tim rushes into the bar in... well, something of a panic, to put it lightly. After he makes sure he's all in one piece, Jane buys him a drink, and explains the finer points of flavored Canadian bottled water. They sit down, she wants to know what happened, Tim says he's fine, he was just in Hell for a bit. Jane commends his survival rate, especially considering this was actually his second trip down there, and Tim takes a moment to de-crisp.
The discussion takes one of those tangents, as Jane and Tim start wondering why things work like they do, and why people just answer 'because' to lots of questions like that. They agree to answer each other's questions to the best of their ability, and then Jane asks why Tim went to Hell in the first place. Turns out it was to rescue his girlfriend, who then broke up with him - and while she had a very good reason, that's still rough. The conversation sidetracks into relationship territory. Tim brings up the power of gossip, and Jane decides that while she may never get used to being the normal one around Milliways, it's got a major advantage over Lawndale: intelligent conversation. (Or, at least, more enjoyable than just about anything she can get there.)
Time for rapid fire subject changes: Sporks leads to gummi bears leads to what has become known in Daria fandom as the Tom Thing (short version: Daria stole Jane's boyfriend)*. Tim wisely avoids dwelling on that last one, and moves the conversation along to finding out some of Jane's favorites.
After a bit, Jane starts wondering if there's anything this guy hasn't done, and gets a very commendable answer (in my opinion, anyway). From there the conversation meanders its way through baseball, overpaid people, and slang confusion, and the ocean. Speaking of which... guess who's been there? Jane then laments the fact that despite her family's chronic wanderlust, she really hasn't travelled much.

*Which, considering Daria/Tom was my first ever OTP, made this a very odd RPing experience.

If you'll excuse me, I should go be social for a bit now.
ETA: The first of these two threads just hit 100 comments. As such, it's quite possibly the first two-person Threadzilla in the game. (Only took us a week and a half. XD)
