Summary of the Hob/Paul/Regulus, Hob/Death, & Paul/Anthy thread here."

Previously, Hob and Regulus had slept together, and the next day Regulus got rather clingier than Hob expected and they had a row. At the same time Hob and Paul were getting to know each other by trading violent horrible snark. The evening ended with Regulus leaving, obviously upset, and Hob hitting Paul, thus apparently earning his lifelong affection.

Last night Paul came in and was unpleasant about Crowley and Aziraphale's fight. Hob and Regulus both ended up talking to him, eventually also continuing their own row. Paul tormented Regulus for a bit before making the rather enigmatic comment that he'd "won." After much of the usual nasty back-and-forth, some quoting of Donne, and a singalong, Paul agreed to tell Hob what it was he'd won with the caveat that Hob would then let him keep it. Hob, being slightly drunk, agreed. It turned out that Paul had won him.

Meanwhile, Death came over and told Paul off for being, well, Paul. Hob defended him and started in on Death about the issue of Dream (a very touchy subject for both of them, as they'd established before). He kept provoking her until she finally cracked a bit and snapped back, defending her actions. Hob lost it and put his fist through a wall.

Also at the same time, Anthy came over to watch the C/A duel, and had a somewhat disturbing conversation with Paul about her status as a prize to the victor. She also commented that Paul "had his own Rose Bride now," apparently in reference to Hob, but that Paul didn't know what to do with him.

If anyone involved has anything to add to this summary, feel free!

Well, it's not love. It's more that Paul has a new unbreakable toy that he can test to destruction (or in this case, to eternal pain and cyclic madness; hey, it wouldn't be any fun if Hob escaped into his own mind) until the last ticking moment of eternity.

*clutches 'ship defensively* But . . .

And Hob's got a really bad case of survivor guilt. And what with the whole immortality thing on Hob's part, there's really no question of being reunited in some vague afterlife--at least not in the immediate future.

The dumb thing is, the very existence of Milliways would seem to argue that eventually the universe WILL end and Hob WILL die, and that therefore he most likely will pass on to some form of afterlife where he WILL see Morpheus again.

It also does not seem to have occurred to him that dreams do not take place in linear time. Therefore, when he dreams, the Morpheus he remembers, as well as the Daniel-Dream who succeeded him, would be--at any point in time prior to Morpheus' death--more than capable of looking into Hob's mind and seeing what is tormenting the man.

Hob isn't being very logical or very metaphysical at the moment.

Peter would like to kick his arse, but this is Regulus' show, and he promised to say out of it.

By the way...

Paul may SAY that he has acquired Hob, but Hob gave himself to Regulus first, didn't he? I don't just mean physically. I mean, they were talking, laughing, sharing secrets...

I think that Regulus could argue that Paul is making off with HIS property.

Anyway, I'm confused -- wouldn't the fact that Hob is at the end of the universe, perfectly functional, suggest the reverse? That he won't die even at the end of the universe?

Paul would be such a good mommy.

No, Hob won't survive the end of the universe. Even Death of the Endless won't survive that. That's why her character LJ is called "Last One Out." Because she'll be the last one in the universe when all life, aethereals and anthropomorphic representations have left. And then she'll turn off the lights, and close the universe behind her, and take her own hand. And that will be it.

That she's at Milliways is a paradox, but then Milliways itself is a paradox.

I think I might actually not be able to live with myself after putting such a monstrosity to paper. : )

Hmm, okay. But I don't see how being at Milliways suggests he won't survive the end. Or are you just saying that its very existence means there will be an end, and other canon will handle the dying part?
