Oh, also: Is it terribly awful if Regulus asked Sirius why he hates Peter so much and Sirius mostly just told him Peter betrayed James and Lily to the death?

technically Sirius is in the back room with Kassandra and/or guard-dogging Ingress -- word may get around eventually to him, though, regarding Peter's version of the story. Or Peter's player may be going with that as canon, it doesn't necessarily contradict.

I'm going with that as canon. James got killed with Voldie's wand, but that doesn't mean that Voldemort couldn't have handed Peter the wand and told him to kill James. It would be a very practical move, actually; if anything would alienate Peter from the Order and his friends, the murder of his friend would.

And Voldemort is a Legilimens--that's canon. So he could have easily plucked the information about the secret keeping from Peter's mind. I don't see Peter being great at Occlumency.

I did think that might be the case. I'm not quite sure Legilimency works to get the Secret Keeper's secret, since it seems to be required to be a voluntary thing, but for our purposes I don't have a quibble with it.

I would suggest that possibly the way for Peter to start atoning in Sirius' eyes would be for him to tell Sirius the story, or at least the facts, so that Sirius at least knows what happened that night. Sirius is a softie -- he was really very fond of Peter at school -- and it would be hard for him to be deliberately cruel to one of his best friends if he saw what Elizabeth saw tonight.

The main problem Peter has with telling Sirius what happened on Halloween 1981 is that he fears that Sirius will believe he's lying or making excuses. He remembers what happened far too clearly--the process of his turning and Halloween 1981 have been the stuff of his nightmares for years--and he refuses to make excuses any longer.

The only thing I can think of that would get Peter talking to Sirius about what happened would be if Sirius started telling someone a reasonable but incorrect version of Halloween 1981 in which Peter was a willing, even eager servant of Voldemort. Peter freely admits what he did, but he doesn't want to be blamed for something he didn't do.

Incidentally, Peter DOES have an explanation for his actions in GoF that fits with canon, should Sirius ask him why he cut Harry and cut his own hand off to restore Voldemort.

Hm. That would work. Or perhaps Sirius would incite him -- "You killed James and Lily!" "Only James!" after which Sirius has a wtf moment :D

And of course there's no need to rush it, depending on how you want to play it -- we can wait a while if Peter would like to mope some more *grins*

At the moment he's not moping. He spent yesterday doing True Confessions from 1981 for Hob, Paul, Liz and Death. And he's falling rather hopelessly in love with Liz. (Hey, with all the gay and bi guys in this bar, SOMEONE has to be the token heterosexual!)
