Hokay, so. Had been leaving this for a while as RL was getting in the way, but figured I should probabl suck it up and do this now, as I have the time and stuff is coming up in non-RL. Anyway.
Basically, the main thing is, I want to reboot Jack Bauer.
Now before anyone who actually remembers Jack in Milliways starts flailing, let me give some background.
Jack first entered Milliways from pre-Day 4 of 24. He lived through that, and by the time TPTB finally got around to tell us what was happening with Day 5, he'd already gone a fair bit from canon. And then when the 24 muns actually *saw* Day 5, we went "uh, no" to certain elements and the 24 pups went way off canon. We incorporated small elements of canon into the major plots, but they're still very different from the events of Days 5 and 6.
This has, of course, made Jack a very different person than he is in the last few seasons of canon, which has affected my playing of him. I mean really, since the last plot he's actually been, well, happy. He's married, has family and friends around him, resolved some of his issues and his character arc is kind of at an end. Hence why he hasn't been in the bar as much, because I've realized I'm the sort of writer that needs a nice big character arc to write (also because RL pounced with a vengeance).
Meanwhile in canon, things have not gone very well for Jack, and there's been some very interesting stuff that's happened to him. Very interesting as in I'd kind of like to play it through, interesting. :D It also makes him night-and-day different from millicanon!Jack.
I had thought of apping post-S7 Jack to another game so as not to spoil anyone's backstory, but then that kind of defeats some of the reasons I wanted to get back into Milliways specifically: it's hard to find a game with as many players, with such a variety of pups and with a premise that'll let me do what I want to do with Jack, and most of all, there are a lot of people that I miss playing with so much, OMG.
So basically what I'd like to have him do is come in from just after the 24: Debriefing mobisodes which take place after Season 6. Naturally, this will cause some complications for those that knew the first Jack in the bar, and hence why I'm writing this post. I'd really like to work out how to deal with this beforehand, and I should say that primarily this is up to the other muns. I'm good with whatever option you guys want to go with.
As for what those options are, I've thought of a few:
a) for those characters that haven't had much/meaningful interaction with First!Jack, we can pretend it never happened.
b) your character can meet rebooted!Jack while we handwave that they still see First!Jack sometimes. This is for those people that have a really strong connection with Jack, and for whom it would be really, emotionally wrenching for them to lose all contact with First!Jack (as the thought of that Jack never seeing Nita or the Malcolms or other people makes my heart go squish). First!Jack will not be posted into the bar at any time once the rebooted version comes in, but your character can handwave that they do see him (and I could probably still write him in an OOM if you really, really need him).
c) your character never mentions in dialogue or internal monologue that they see him/don't see him again.
d) character never does see First!Jack again; either for those characters that knew First!Jack fairly well but didn't have a strong emotional bond, or for those muns that want to put their character through the emotional wringer. I am TOTALLY not going to stand in anyone's way when it comes to doing that. :D
e) your character never meets rebooted!Jack. Ever. Two ships passing in the night, and you can go with the handwaved meetings in option b or the never mentioning it lalala of option c for First!Jack's non-threading with your pup. I am totally fine with this too, though I may make puppy-dog eyes to thread with one of your other characters because you guys are why I'm thinking of rebooting Jack for this game. :D
So, opinions? Can other people thinks of options for muns if rebooted!Jack comes in?
Oh and bonus question for the mods: because of the extensive backstory for the first Jack, I'd kind of like to leave the existing journal for him and start the new Jack with a new journal. If this is okay with you, how should I go about it? Should I completely re-app Jack, or just request to join the bar with the new journal, with a note attached saying "hi, this is the new Jack Bauer journal"?
