Daily Entertainment.

Most of us have fandom-related icons on our mun ljs. Can you guess usually what those fandoms are from when you see them on someone else's? (Anyone remember what mine is from above? Don't cheat and look at the keywords!)

Ugly Betty!

And I'll toss up this icon since very few people seem to recognize the quote for anyone who wants to guess or surprise me!

Usually not. I don't watch many movies or TV shows (of either American, British, or Japanese origin), so anything connecting to any of those outside the small category of my experience is lost on me. Likewise with video games, to a lesser degree; for some reason, video game icons seem slightly more likely to be explained, so if I happen to remember the explanation I may be able to identify other icons from that particular game.

Mine are mostly really really easy. I have large fandoms!

I have this one, among a few others!

But this one's my fave.

:D

(And yeah - mine are usually pretty easy too, I think?)

ETA: Ooh. But if we're talking icons with images from fandom? Then yeah. Most of my icons are from fandoms and are generally easily recognizable.

I was gonna say 'most of my fandom icons are pretty obvious', and then I loaded my icons and realized that most of my icons are fandom related and only a fistful of them are genuinely obvious to people who haven't been up to the eyeballs in panfandoms for some time. And even people who have aren't gonna recognize 'em all; witness Ron the Narrator here, whose fandom wouldn't be recognizable in the slightest if not for the quote, and even that only works if you've played that canon...

As far as recognizing other people's fandom icons I'm only moderately good at it. At best. My interests can be a bit narrow at times.

Usually! Even if I'm not personally familiar with a particular canon, like Dr. Who, my flist keeps me informed. Bless you, flist!

And my own fandom-centric icons are pretty easily identifiable, I do believe.

I have six icons. No one will ever know what they're from. It is impossible to guess. People have tried and have failed miserably for ages.

(Really though, I think they're pretty obvious. So long as you know/are familiar with the movies.)

I can guess at a few fandom icons on other LJs, but I'm not very good, unless I'm really familiar with the source, and cheat by looking at the keywords.

Some of mine are obvious; some are obvious if you know the source but for more obscure fandoms; some... are for fandoms of one.
(I have a couple icons with quotes from a play I was in in high school that was so funny I kept the script; one of the teachers wrote it, and his working title was 'Aquaman vs. Frank Sinatra.' They were the voices in the main character's head. Somewhere along the line 'you can say what you want, but remember: I'm Aquaman!' became my Percy Jackson-ish icon.)

Some are obvious.

Some...less so.

I have the one main fandom icon, as you can see. Some of my others derive from fandoms but I don't use them so much for that purpose.

Nooooot always! I'm better at identifying picture icons since I'm familiar with a lot of fandoms on a visual basis, but when people use text-only icons with quotes from a show/book/film/whatever that I'm unfamiliar with, I don't really guess very well. If you had used a picture icon of someone from Ugly Betty instead of a quote icon, chances are, I would have known!

It depends on the icon, sometimes I can and I usually get ideas. I have a new laptop!

I love this icon of yours and you have such a great collection of fandom icons.

Since I've run out of paid time and cannot re-up at the moment, here's my entry (though you are also free to guess at the identity of the gentleman in my actual icon):

I actually only have one fandom icon. It should be fairly obvious. Although I used to have one I quite liked that had my favorite Pete Wisdom quote in it: 'You always know where the X-Men have been, because it's always on fire.'

--Hey also: I did make a list of books that Claudia would recommend for Albus, but then I wasn't sure if it'd come up in-thread or not. I can... do... something with that if you want? (At this point, possibly post it in her LJ and send you the link.)

Oh my goodness, yes! I am so sorry about flaking on that thread. D:

I'd totally love to have Albus go through and start reading books from that list. :) We can handwave that they discussed the books a little, and she gave him said list. And - yes.
