Happy return-to-work day, for many of us!

...Yeah, I know, it's not all that happy, but here we are. Let's make the most of it shall we?

Who got coal in their stocking? Who had a badass New Year's Eve celebration? Tell me all the things!

Badass, group-family, New Year's celebration right here!

(>_> And I totally put real Coal in Earl's stocking and the tiniest of candy coals in Weaves, Debi, and Li's stockings!)

I went Nordic Walking with my Little Lady and the Nazgul, shortly after midnight on New Year's, as we wanted to be back at one to see the fireworks from Reykjavik via webcam, as my sister and brother-in-law were there for a brief holiday to get to know Iceland in winter, and see the reputedly most exuberant (by the number of people in that place) new year fireworks on earth.

Where was I? Oh yes, as we were striding along briskly with our sticks starting the new year with sports, people with bottles in their hands staaaaaared at us at every street corner and then said, 'Oh, they are Nordic Walking'. Or they even addressed their remarks to us.

In any case, they all seemed to collectively be in the Captain Obvious state of inebriation.

Also, somebody set a bush on a public square on fire with a bright red firecracker.

Our New Year's Eve was quiet, and we spent the weekend re-watching all three original PotC films. (Sorry, Johnny, but the fourth film just pales even more now.) A good way to recharge my batteries, and also a way to gear up to bring Gibbs back to the Bar or to Mixed Muses at some point soon.

For New Year's this year I went with a group in Manhattan for what was supposed to be a midnight bike ride. Didn't work out quite like I hoped- for one thing, we started around 10:15 and got to our destination around 11:30, and for another, while the people in the group were nice, as cyclists they were absolute jerks. Swarming through red lights, not getting out of the way of cars stacked up behind us, etc. When we got to Central Park to wait for the midnight fireworks I decided not to stick around and headed for the west side of Manhattan Island, and got the most fantastic solitary view of the river and the city by cycling along the West Side Greenway. There was no one else there at all for most of the distance.

I got to the New York Waterway ferry terminal a little before midnight and spent the actual midnight moment watching some pedicab drivers take pictures of their foreign tourist clients waving and shouting "Happy New Year!", and then managed to catch a ride back to New Jersey on the very last ferry to Hoboken, where I was the only passenger. So in the end it was all pretty good.

I spent New Year's Eve with my family and the day helping to run a small open house my parents have on the day itself.

I've bought myself the rest of this week to navigate getting back to Michigan and it's nice as driving back takes two days. Things are good.

Though last night I did have a dream of working the drive-thru at McDonald's and being horribly swamped because of something to do with X-Men: First Class. It was quite odd and a slight anxious dream but not as bad as some I've had.

I spent New Year's Eve watching Top Gear. Nothin' wrong with that.
I spent New Year's Day at work - wasn't down for it, but the person who was ditched us (it'd be great if we could hire someone who shows up to work and stays the duration of their shift...), so I picked it up. Time and a half. Also nothin' wrong with that.

New Year's Eve was spent partially at work and partially at home celebrating Christmas with my dad's side of the family (at least those who deigned to show up).

New Year's Day was partially spent at my grandfather's house, in the beginning stages of cleaning it out and getting it ready for...whatever my uncle's planning on doing with it. Renting it to one of his sons, renting it to someone else, who knows.
