DE: Pardon me, may I step in here?

Man, this morning I had no hot water for my shower. It wasn't cold but it still wasn't hot. Talk about rude awakenings.

Anyway, another topic from [personal profile] aberration
 :
Do you ever have times when you're writing/reading a thread and another, non-participating character of yours won't shut up about it in your head? Share any instances you feel like.

Umm nothing to see here, bad house keeping on my part.

So since I had no hot water for my morning shower, what amenities can your pup, or yourself, just not do without? If they don't have them, do they just throw up their hands diva style or weather on, but grump a lot?

Also, since we're at the end of an App cycle, any new faces (mun or pup) want to introduce themselves?

Oh, and in addition, if you have an idea for a topic for our daily entertainments, feel free to leave a comment here and we will give credit when we use it.

er... didn't we do this DE just the other day?

ETA: yeah, 29th December, my apologies, that's not so much 'just' the other day... http://ways-back-room.dreamwidth.org/5007456.html

Most of mine tend to be fairly adaptable when it comes to doing without their favorite amenities, possibly because most of mine have at some point been forced to deal with all the amenities everywhere being destroyed. Varric makes a point of ensuring that he knows where the nearest taverns are, though, and that he's in good standing at them, and when he travels he's careful to bring along a few skins or flasks or whatever of his preferred beverage. He's not a heavy drinker, but if he's going to spend a lot of time talking with a glass in his hand, it might as well be a glass of something good. And if he can't have proper alcohol around, he sighs theatrically and makes a few loud anticipatory statements, then lets it drop.

I... am also saddled with the fact that the headvoice in question has rather cheerfully noted that ever since he found his way into that weird room with all the boxes full of water and other people's clothing he's been introduced to some very interesting garment ideas and that he's trying to introduce the prospect of silk boxer shorts to Kirkwall, because he likes them a great deal better than the current alternatives.

Dwarves. Go fig.

I can't deal without hot water. When my water heater recently sprung a leak and needed to be replaced, I went so far as to heat water up on the stove in order to wash my hair. My sympathies to you for your morning. I would say I can do without electricity for a few days, but it's necessary for things like hot water and the internet. :(

Zelgadiss is used to roughing it when needed, and can go a long longer without food, sleep and water than his usual traveling companions. He still needs those things, but he'll go quite a while on short commons and rough conditions without complaining (Lina usually complains enough for the whole group, but don't tell her he thinks so). Beds, lights, bathrooms, running water, restaurant food, all very nice when you have them, but not necessary.

Yrael can go without everything, but would prefer not to. He likes food and has grown accustomed to sleeping in a comfortable place, but he doesn't technically need them. He'll complain without reserve if he feels there's something to complain about. ^_^

Sunshine would say she can't do without hot water and electricity, but she's wrong. She'd weather on, grumpily, but would keep most of her complaining to herself.

Personally, I can do without a lot. As long as I get a good meal (and there's some clean running water to drink), I'm good. I'd prefer to have planned the reasons for this, but if (for example) the electricity in the UK were to vanish suddenly, I'd like to think I'd manage okay. Until food supplies started to run low, at any rate.

Jack can manage without a lot, as long as he gets a solid meal.

Bean can do the same, and at the moment, is less reliant on the 'solidity' of the meal than Jack.

Alfred, it depends on the circumstances. When he was in the Army, he had to manage, like Jack. These days, his need for amenities is still far more based around the expectations of those he's going to meet that day, than personal needs.

Erik needs running water, ideally a shower (not necessarily, but preferably hot). It makes him feel clean, and wakes him up.

Max can do without a morning meal, if he's in a rush. It's really not good, and he tries to have something before 11am, but he doesn't need it.

I need something to read. If left without access to the internet, lending libraries or similar I will begin writing novellas.

They're... pretty terrible and if I ever find the papers again, burned.

Every time Ako goes without something her inventory gets a little more cluttered. I fully expect her to try and put a mobile home in her sylladex at some point. It will not fit.

Artemis has a deep appreciation of jacuzzies and not quite enough knowledge to build one. She doesn't need one though. Information maybe? I've played as a bit of an info junkie.

Robo needs entertainment and information. We know this because Stephen Hawking is a jerk and Robo was on a mission to Mars. It all makes sense in context.

Janet doesn't do well without electricity, running water and especially flush toilets. She also divas. If you've kidnapped her into this situation, she'll diva all over your base.

Tyler is a city boy. He needs showers mostly, but takeout often runs a close second.

Future Hank will need hairbrushes. A good, moisterizing shampoo is helpful but not required.

No, but a drain trap would be. :)

I need a place to sleep, a door to shut, running water and heat. I can do without internet in my place but it makes me lonely. Also I'm one of those people that needs to have something to read, I always have a book in my bag and with my phone have more options.

Will needs very little, thanks to Milliways he likes modern amenities but can easily do without them.

Charles likes his hot water, tea, nicely pressed clothes and all of modernity, if pressed he could do without them since he did grow up in a time of war. So he's aware that you won't always have everything, the closest he's come to experiencing it outside of Slenderman are from being a boy scout and other people's thoughts.

Sameth knows how to live on the road but his idea of traveling rough usually involves at least someone else to do the cooking. He can do without a bit though because when he's working, he forgets regular meals and sleeping though all of that is available. He's a weird one.

William can also easily do without a lot as the basics in his time and home are pretty basic. I think coffee is the one that he'd have a hard time without, most of the coffee he drinks is pretty awful but it keeps him warm and awake.

Moist likes his luxuries but if he needs to run with only the clothes on his back and the horse he stole, he'll do fine. He knows how to get what he needs pretty quickly.

Demeter is a goddess so the question doesn't really work for her as she can create what she needs.

Jane likes and is used to having water available and people to help out, she loves the hot water at the Bar. Her family isn't rich so she can make do without a lot but if she doesn't have paper and ink, she'll be unhappy.

Tumnus is used to having a few amenities but when the Witch ruled, I think things were tight. As long as he can be warm with tea, he'll be happy.

The Pirate King's ship is well fitted out and as a pirate, he doesn't have as much as he had as a Lord's Son, but he's a pirate. I think he's pretty happy.

Grace Augustine - [personal profile] donthidemycigs - can't do without coffee or nicotine. No, seriously, you do not want to see her without coffee or nicotine.

I have a few who are used to doing without: primarily Porthos - [personal profile] srspirate; Renee Walker - [personal profile] whathastobedone; Zoë Washburne - [personal profile] someonetocarryyou. They all have things they appreciate, but in a pinch they make do with whatever they've got. Adaptability is important.

Ray Carling - [personal profile] flickedmethevs - doesn't fuss over poofter matters like hygiene, but he's rather a fan of the new telly at Nelson's, so he can drink and watch sport at the same time. Just don't tell Tyler.

Leela - [personal profile] eyeeyecaptain - has a very specific routine, as does Lily Bell - [personal profile] maidenofthewest. They're from two very different times, but they're both the sort of hard-as-nails ladies who will push through any hardship, yet still appreciate being able to take care of themselves. I think Leela would complain more than Lily if she had to go a few days without, though.

Regina Mills - [personal profile] happilyneverafter - heh. Did somebody mention diva? XD

I'm pretty bad about hot water. And the internet. Back in November the hot water went out in the place I was staying in and I ended up heating water on the stove.

Elle needs a lock on the bathroom door. Because she's like that.

Asami is sure going to miss running water and not-from-a-dumpster food when the time comes.

Leslie needs sugar. She can camp in the woods indefinitely, but not without her emergency s'more rations.

Manny... doesn't really need much of anything. Except something to do so he doesn't get bored and up doing something stupid. Which he is occasionally prone to, especially when bored.

Marceline doesn't need that much in terms of amenities per se, as she doesn't feel obligated to keep on top of things when it comes to cleanliness... or social interaction, sometimes. But she does get grumpy if she's hungry, or if she's parted from her guitar for too long. And if she's going to be in the sun, she needs some kind of shading.

Grace reminds me of something I heard about Danes- something about how all you have to do to prove that the average Dane is still ninety-nine per cent Viking is replace their coffee with decaf for a few days.

*cackles* Oh, I like that. And I agree. Grace is enough of a pill when she is fully caffeinated and smoking like a chimney, I can see her picking up an ax if forced to detox.

Max Mercer here, canon-mate of [personal profile] md_donighal and [personal profile] aeons_crackshot, currently catching up with them over in Miss [personal profile] leeshajoy's Daily Entertainment. [personal profile] aberrantangels successfully submitted my membership application many moons ago, but he hasn't done anything with me yet (he claims to be working on my entry post), so I'm technically a new face, and one Austin plans for the Bar to see more of in the near future.
