climate question

So, for ease of reference, I decided to plug Milliways' "borrowed location" into my weather app. However, all that's definitively known about Hogwarts, and hence Milliways, is that it's somewhere in Scotland. Quoth the Harry Potter wiki: "Its location is unknown, though Hermione says [in the movies] it is close to Dufftown. Though it is more likely in the North West Highlands (probably Sutherland) due to the more isolated landscapes and the lack of nearby towns."

So... which, or where else, should I go with? Their weather is quite different, at least right now.

I think someone told me once that there's a run-down castle somewhere near Loch Ness that people call Hogwarts, but I could have dreamed that one.

If you're thinking of Boleskine House, I've never heard that one, but it did belong to Aleister Crowley at one time.

It really doesn't matter. We don't generally bother checking Bar weather against real-world weather because that would require setting some specific point in time as a referent. Just pick something that sounds reasonably believable and like what you would want to do for a specific scene.

For lack of a better spot, I've been using Edinburgh. A bit vague, and far too urban for the Bar's Back Yard, I know, but it's a nice general spot that definitely shows up in my weather app.

It's worth noting that the weather at Hogwarts in the books doesn't reflect the weather patterns of anywhere in the UK anyway - long periods of snow in winter but no mention of the even longer periods where the ground is caked in a mixture of ice and slushy mud; sunny days where it's hot but not stifling; and dramatic rainstorms rather than just a perpetual drizzle all seem to be common features at Hogwarts.

- I've forgotten what my point was going to be. I think just that Hogwarts' weather patterns are bizarre and weird and presumably magical in nature anyway, so there's no reason why the Bar's lake area shouldn't be the same.
