An idea... possibly crap

I had an idea for massive collaborative bar fun over supper. Was wondering if it was crap... or actually quite good. So here goes:

The Milliways Quidditch Cup
Hogwarts VII vs Rest of the World Magic VII

Bear in mind that I'm not even properly in the HP fandom, but I figured it would be neat to have a temporary quidditch stadium out back, and just imagine the chaos of the actual match thread. Eep! Lake party scenario. Possibly needs careful thought.

I had no idea how the teams would be picked... or who would referee. I assumed that any character with magic or the ability to levitate themselves (or objects) could probably participate somehow. But there are lots of ways the non-magic among us could also get some action. I imagined Indy getting knocked out by bludgers, muggles being given broomstick rides by their magical friends... etc Somehow the image of A/C on broomsticks was too much for me to not blurt out the idea.

Please discuss, or tell me its a rubbish idea. I just felt I had to share.

If this goes ahead then Angie is TOTALLY there!

I always assumed that the flying spell was cast on the broom and didn't require the actual user to be magical... One thing that has come up in Millicanon to this end is Ginny trying to teach Penny to fly, and also Angie has taken Raph for a (disasterous) fly as well, so the non-magic folk, given practise, could play as well. Come to think of it, isn't James Potter giving flying lessons?

*Wide-eyed stare*

*grin* If this actually is going to be planned and actually occur, Yrael would love to be a Beater. That is, if he knew what a Beater was.

Count me in.

Hey, I'll have you know that flyin' ain't easy!!

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Can Broom participate somehow? Riderless player, with the help of a spell? Mascot? Anything?

If monkey's can do it then I'm sure a turtle could as well...

Fly my pretty! Fly! Fly!

Anakin, having had a flying lesson which he loved beyond words, volunteers to be a Chaser.

This would rock my world.

No around here it'll be flying cows. There are no pigs in Milliways as far as I know...

[identity profile] empath-wiggin.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude! I so just told Peter-mun that Anakin should be a Chaser. Val would volunteer to be Broom Girl. Like Bat girl? Something?

What about people who don't need brooms (cf. [livejournal.com profile] md_donighal)?

[identity profile] skjaldmeyjar.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*L* Veddy good question.

Overall this game sounds like madness... The good sort of crack-madness...

Ooh ooh! Dibs on Keeper!

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Hang onto a broom and pretend to ride while flying? It'd save having to enchant another broom.

*giggles* I think Tom could be talked into playing, although I doubt he ever really ever played. Sports were not his thing ;)

[identity profile] timsbooks.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim would probably not be a great player, already having expressed his distaste with brooms... but i'm sure he'd make a great ref

Yes. O_O Yes please yes.

Nick? Is a world of there...if it's a night game or someone enchants him to be able to stand the sun.

so long as the brownies can play, it sounds good to me.

We're going to break lj permanently, aren't we? :0

If this happened, Bill would love to play. I don't think it was said anywhere in canon which position he had while in school but I've decided he was a Chaser *g*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_iamgred_/ 2004-12-02 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Fred is NOT dancing with glee. He is not squealing and skipping like a schoolgirl. Fred is far too manly for such unbecoming displays of pure joy. Yes.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_iamforge_/ 2004-12-02 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. George isn't absolutely ecstatic, to the point that he's nearly doing a little happy dance, that he'll have the chance to smack a bludger into someone's head once more, oh no.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2004-12-02 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, considering what happened during the lake party, and we only had what, 100 members then?

Still, it sounds like it might have one root post covering the majority of events, and that'll likely have under 700 comments(based on prior events of this level and increasing the numbers). It's not THAT bad . . .

[identity profile] sullen-seeker.livejournal.com 2004-12-02 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This just gets better and better!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_our_king_/ 2004-12-02 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll get even better than this--soon we're gonna have a new Hermione in here...

[identity profile] hooper-x.livejournal.com 2004-12-02 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I nominate Beavis and Butt-Head for play-by-play commentary.

"Uh.... whoa. That dude is like, flying on a broom. Huh huh."
"Heh heh, yeah dude. He's holding it against his weiner."
"Huh huh, you said 'weiner'."

[identity profile] gryffindorstag.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Val should have a yellow and black Spandex superheroine costume to go with the title of "Broom Girl." Yellow and black for Hufflepuff, because that is definitely Val's house. (Just, loyal, patient, true, hard-working...you know that's Val.)

[identity profile] gryffindorstag.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'll play Chaser or Seeker.

Oh, and I just happen to have a Golden Snitch. Now all we need are a Quaffle, two Bludgers, four shortened cricket bats (one for each Beater) and assorted enchanted brooms.

[identity profile] empath-wiggin.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Darn you. Now you have put pictures in my head of Val in superhero spandex. *cackles* The bar so should dress her in that now, and confuse the frell out of her why she's in black and yellow.

Oh, and now you have me thinking of Houses for EG characters. *boggles*

[identity profile] gryffindorstag.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, of course it's ridiculous.

This is Milliways.

If it weren't completely insane, we wouldn't even think of doing it.

[identity profile] anthy-rosebride.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
On that note, Anthy could contribute the Broomstick of Dios!

[identity profile] sullen-seeker.livejournal.com 2004-12-03 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
...

Catfight!

Or...y'know, the male equivalent.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_iamforge_/ 2004-12-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
{raises hand} I'll talk to Fred-mun about it. If she can get on more, and wants to, we'll handle it.

Besides, who else would stir up that sort of trouble? And they undoubtedly have the equipment at the Burrow somewhere...
