ways_back_room | (no subject)

Oh dear, this is embarrassing! Until last night I thought Sirius was joking when he mentioned the back room! Like the lake and the staff quarters I thought it was a virtual place we had to imagine. However, someone has kindly and gently put me right and steered me in this direction and I am astounded by what's going on in here.

I'm told I should make an introduction but I'll cut that because it'll be boring.

Gilbert Whimple is from the HP fandom but not really. I would like to claim to be the only person ever to have written about him but I expect I'm not. If you look on P.86 of the US version of GOF near the top you will see Arthur say "That's Gilbert Whimple. He works for the Experimental Charms Committee - he's had those horns for a while now" and that's all we know about him. Just for info, Gilbert was accidentally turned into a faun. He has horns, rather furry legs and a very affectionate nature. He thinks Sirius is just wonderful but will readily adore any character who takes the trouble to be nice to him. If it's agreeable to the management, shortly, I would like to make Gil's little bit of the staff quarters and the far end of the kitchen table an angst free zone where people can come for a rest and some tea and sympathy. Angst is all very well but the RPG that Gilbert has fled is making ulcers on my soul!

Gilbert will be happy to further any plot anyone wishes to include him in but has no plans to start any of his own.

That's a big comfort, thank you. Now I need to find something to do with him. If you want to have those cooking lessons feel free to do so. Either Gil or one of the crack rats will show you the ropes.

Akane has the gift of life when it comes to cooking. Well, at least it's suspected so, no one's ever actually seen her creations run away by themselves. Only her victims afterwards. *grins*

Gil will happily be her sensei and will in fact insist that she roll up a tea towel and tie it around her forehead - the fact that the tea towel reads "A Present from Blackpool" on it will only add to the professional effect.

Akane is most pleased and is sure to allow the lettering on the towel to be the main focus, as it only makes sense. She makes sure to tie the tea towel tightly and stands at attention.

Gil gets his own tea towel - one with "Front Doors of Dublin" on it - ties it round his own head and begins to initiate Akane into the mysteries of making Sirius's Full English Breakfast plus a side dish of Bahklava for Kassandra.

Akane follows Gil's instructions, resisting the almost overwhelming urge to add hot sauce 'for that extra sizzle'. To anything, even the things that would slightly make sense to have with hot sauce. She also takes care that the sugar does not magically become the salt, or vice versa, despite their constant pranks of switching spots.

Watches approvingly while poised to intervene should creativity overcome common sense. Wonders if she has realised that this is just a trial run and on this occasion anything she cooks, she eats?

15 is an unimaginable number to the average Brit!! Please bear in mind though that in comparison with the rest of Milliways Gil goes to bed awful early (I'm at least 5 hours ahead).
