DE: Vegetables

If your charrie is from a different world, what kind of vegetables do they have? If they are from an Earth-type world, what is the strangest vegetable they have encountered in Milliways?

Swamp Thing IS a vegetable. Or at least can be.

This is actually a tricky one.

For Xephos, it depends on which part of canon he's in, and what mods were being run. The berry bushes, while not vegetables, are still pretty odd. Bushes that grow iron ore or XP essence. And I'm sure there must be others in their mod packs that just went completely unnoticed, since their mod packs are enormous.

And it's the same for Wilford. It depends on which part of canon he's in, and what one even considers canon for him. If you play as Wilford in Don't Starve, he bitches and moans about eating vegetables, and then gets sick if you make him eat one. That's the only thing I can think of at the moment that has a direct link between Wilford and food of any kind, and the food in Don't Starve is mostly ordinary food. But then, video games being a Thing for him, things like the ore berry bushes from Xephos' canon are out there somewhere, and who knows what else that I just can't think of so soon after waking up.

Enjolras and Cosette are from Earth, and specifically from early 19th century France, which means a lot of vegetables that don't grow in or ship well to France pre-refrigeration are strange to them. That includes certain spices -- neither of them is used to a lot of capsaicin, for example. Enjolras has encountered more by dint of 'living' at Milliways full-time, and also being less inclined to order something specific which means Bar gives him random stuff more, but I haven't given either of them a ton of non-Earth food. So I'll say chili peppers for Enjolras -- why do people want their food to taste like pain and burning?? -- and for Cosette... uh, probably some kind of Asian fruits that Bar offered as options for the Twelfth Night party food.

Thor, GOD ONLY KNOWS. Canon is not very specific about Asgardian foodways! Which means I've made plenty of stuff up. I think there's lots of overlap with Earth produce, whether it's native or "hey, that's a good idea! We'll take some seeds of that!" but also plenty of stuff from elsewhere, so basically it's a big mishmash with a Scandinavian filter and a generally LARGE PORTIONS FOR COMMUNAL FEASTS aesthetic. (I've also said that Asgardian tastebuds work differently, so he genuinely doesn't taste all the same things a human does, and does taste other things more strongly.) Most of the stuff I've had him be confused by from Earth is, like, sprinkles and Happy Meals. He's a big fan of coffee, which technically is a plant product. Clearly I need to give him more odd vegetable encounters.

Kazul's world has an astonishing (just astonishing!) level of overlap with modern European cuisine and wildlife. So, like, all we see her eating is chocolate mousse and cherries jubilee and such, at the end of dinner parties with unspecified (but probably no stranger) menus. At Milliways she mostly gets dessert + beverage rather than full meals. So I don't actually know if she's encountered anything particularly weird yet.

Doctor Dinosaur is not a pitiful herbivore, thank you. (He's from Earth, he eats things that eat Earth vegetables, generally.)

The weird mycology of the moon aside, the world where all my pups come from is suprisingly Earth-like, despite being not-Earth. Flora and fauna could have accompanied humans from the human homeworld, but the human homeworld is very much a not-Earth. However, there is some odd plant life.

- Herbs with very odd effects, typical of fantasy games. Burning the herb marrentil is very pleasing to the gods, so I have been treating it as GODLY catnip in rp :p
- prickly pear cactus actually stores up drinkable water, instead of alkaline slime like it does in reality, or quenchy cactus juice, like Sokka discovered in the Avatar-verse.
- Wyrmwood, which plucks itself out of the ground and wanders away
- A variety of silly trees like crystal trees, generic sparkly magic trees, evil trees, spirit trees, witchwood, blisterwood which is super deadly to vampires and somehow blocks psychic powers, bloodwood...
- and I almost forgot to mention an actual edible veggie. Ogleroot, which causes rabbits that eat it to disappear, maybe due to shrinking to death. No one knows what happens to humans who eat it, and no one wants to find out. It is used in a shrinking potion, though.
