Friday DE: Canon Share

What are some canons that you think need to be consumed?  What are some you think should be represented in Milliways? What are some new ones you been enjoying? What about upcoming canons? We did get a lot of trailers this week. 

This is could be books, TV, movies, podcasts, songs, whatever.

We're way underrepresented from the Arrowverse. Though if I have to recommend what parts to watch, I would say all of Arrow, the first season of Flash, and the second season of Legends of Tomorrow.

I've been sinking a lot of time into playing My Japanese Boyband Roadtrip Simulator Final Fantasy XV lately, and thinking how well the characters in that game would do in Milliways.

I mean, you've got the well-dressed voice of reason who collects elaborate recipes, does all the cooking and driving and keeping people thinking clearly, the cheerful buff big-brotherly protector-type carrying weapons that should be too big for one person, the cheerful little nerd of a best friend who shoots things with both his camera and his gun, and the unready emo prince trying to step up to save what's left of his kingdom from invasion by the evil empire, and ultimately save the world. They could all find a place for themselves in the Milliways community.)

I've been reading the Codex Alera series and having a blast.

I feel the bar needs more Marvel Netflix pups, but I could be biased.

Noragami is an awesome canon I've recently been reminded of, both the anime and the manga. Need to catch up on chapters.

In podcast land, I've been loving Rabbits and am thinking Tanis is dragging.

Pinocchio Vampire Slayer is a lot of fun and would be a hoot to have in bar. Also, Matt Wagner's Mage is back, and I am so tempted...

Also, I'm very much looking forward to reading Battlefront 2: Inferno Squad.

And do I need to say I'm looking forward to The Gifted? (Although I am worried Blink/Clarice will get little showtime and I'll be left with yet another beloved pup that gets ignored.

I'd like to see more Warhammer 40k pups, because it's got a massive cast of characters, many of which would fit in really well with Milliways. I know this is almost certainly just me here, but they're still worth a look. Especially Ciaphas Cain.

Mad Max seems really underrepresented, at least to me. We've got two pups already, but it's an awesome franchise that needs more love.

I concur so much with sdelmonte and bjornwilde about the Marvel and DC TV shows. Personally, I want Supergirl and Jessica Jones, but I'll take any. Hell, we've got a lot from both canons, but Marvel especially seems to be primarily represented by the cinematic versions of characters. This may be because I grew up with the comic ones, but they need love too.

Whilst this may just be me, I feel like we could use some Borderlands pups here in Milliways, because they would fit right in here. Their brand of crazy is the sort of thing that would only enrich the bar.

Definitely American Gods. Anything or anyone from American Gods would be awesome.

I'd love to see some pups from Blade Runner, although that might just be because it's one of my favourite films ever.

Some of our most awesome pups and former pups (in my opinion) are from the Half-Life universe, but Valve have created so many great characters over the years that would fit in well at Milliways. Primarily, I'm thinking Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead and Portal, but really any of their creations.

I'm not the biggest fan of Destiny, but there's some awesome characters that we should think about bringing on as pups. I've got Cayde-6 and Variks down in my head as good ideas for pups, but there are others.

Fallout is really underrepresented, and it's the one canon I'm thinking seriously about adding to with my version of Courier Six. There are five games, all of which are varying degrees of awesome, but all have potential to provide enjoyable pups.

I'm perfectly willing to add to all of these, with the most likely being Fallout, as detailed above. I've got a couple of ideas for the comic versions of Marvel characters, and there's one character from Destiny that I might app, but I'd like to see a few other people take pups from some of these canons.

I second the surprise that there aren't more Arrowverse characters in-bar. I'd adore seeing a Kara Danvers, or Cisco and Caitlin.

I'd definitely like to see some RWBY characters in-bar (and it has such a gigantic cast that the sky's really the limit there), and in general that series is short enough that it can probably be consumed in a single sitting, if you can stick through the first volume's terrible, terrible animation.

I'd definitely also like to see some Game of Thrones characters in-bar, but at the same time, it's in a lot of ways a difficult canon to try to blend with the bar.

I might have a Yang Xiao Long hiding in the wings of my mental stage. So curious to see what the girls will get up to this season.

Oh, man, a Yang would be awesome. I'm super hyped to see what happens this season (and I'm hoping it'll involve them reuniting as a team).

I'm surprised there isn't more Doctor Who here. So many companions, so many aliens, a billionty seasons!

Right now I'm just enjoying the hell out of the second season of Preacher and slowly learning more about the TV version of Cassidy. The first season is on Hulu which I recommend like nobody's business. You don't even have to read the comics, although I'm not saying you shouldn't ever.

Doctor Who is definitely seconded by me. I so want to see Captain Jack Harness or Strax here. Or even one of the Doctors.

Now if I can just convince this guy (hooks a thumb at mun) to give it a chance. He keeps complaining about time and all that, but I think he's just being too cautious.

I just checked the cast list. I thought we still had a Doctor. The mun who last had the role played all of their incarnations. And we also did have a Jack Harkness but I think I had only just come back to the game right before they left.

I think I considered playing Strax at some point, ahaha.

I just started watching Black Sails, and...c'mon people. Gay pirates! Everyone kicks ass, especially the women! Diverse cast all over the place! So good.

Ha, yes, Black Sails is all over my dash and I've wondered why it's not here! Dunno when I'll get a chance to watch it myself though.

I finally watched all of Steven Universe! :D

And lol, I've also been binge-watching BBC mysteries--Shetland and Vera. Not sure that either really lends itself to Milliways RP, but they've been satisfying.

Codex Alera. It has many problems but is super fun and I love it. Yay, Alera. If you do read it, feel free to babble at me as you do; just as: bjornwilde, I love watching people enjoy my canons--all of them, so this goes for the others too. also plz tell me if literally anyone grabs you for rp i will make you cookies

I super market the YA book series by Gwenda Bond about Lois, her new canon, because it is cute and a fun ride and a breath of air for everyone.

If you even remotely like Star Wars, or are curious about it, watch Clone Wars and Rebels. They are fantastic, to be honest possibly my favorite Star Wars media to date, and just super awesome fun. Clone Wars is even on Netflix, so you can just put it on in the background! I'd love to see an Obi-wan in Bar, btw or Padme though that could be special and interesting.

Read the Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone. Never will I stop saying this.

New canon I have enjoyed lately, hmm. I've been reading a lot of webcomics. Right now I'm super into Dumbing of Age by David Willis, but that kind of comes with tons of content warnings about suicidal depression, drinking, abuse and coping with it, etc. It's really, really rough, and it says something about how good it is that I keep reading it. I Do Not Sads too often.

Also, Moana. Go watch Moana if you have not. Moana is my favorite Disney movie ever.

I've done huge rec lists before both of "go read/watch this" and "I want to see this," so I will keep this short, but... how do we not have anyone from Brandon Sanderson books? Gosh. I'd love to see them in Bar. Also he is a super fun writer if you're into (very) lengthy epic high fantasy.

Seconding the Craft Sequence. Great characters and some of the best world building I've seen in some time.

The last canon I consumed like a crazy thing (read: I ended up buying all the canon, twenty volumes, in two months - something which hadn't happened since Death Note) was Bakuman. I don't think it would necessarily make for interesting RP, but it's a wonderful read, essentially it's a manga about how manga is made.

My other favourite read at the moment is Assassination Classroom, but I suspect that would be difficult to RP until the series comes to a conclusion as they keep revealing stuff that's pretty significant to the characters.

I've mainly been reading Star Wars' canon novels and liking almost all of them. Some of the smaller characters could be great to see like Eli Vanto from Thrawn. It would be amazing to have one of the clones like Rex or Cody in Milliways. Oh Maz Kanata, she would love Milliways and be a great fit.

In terms of other things I've been enjoying on TV, Preacher is great, So You Think You Can Dance always makes me smile and makes me want to reread Seanan Mcguire's Incryptid books.

I feel like there's more but I just started a fact checking job and that kind of eats up mental space.

I think at one point we had someone from the Mistborn series, I remember what a fascinating character they were and meaning to read the books.

I'm genuinely surprised there isn't more Overwatch in the bar, given how popular it is over on Tumblr.

I've off-and-on contemplated apping Bastion myself, and I've had the idea of doing so practically since The Last Bastion came out so I don't think it's just a passing fancy, but I'm not really sure how to get back in the saddle of RPing at the Bar after being gone for so long and falling out of the habit of keeping up to date on bar goings-on.

I have been keeping an eye on K2's EP! (I'm subscribed to the sandboxes and the back room but not the Bar itself for reasons that are completely lost to me.)
