Monday DE: Death and Taxes

Inspired by my having done my taxes and annual insurance claims, how is your pup with the boring but not so trivial paperwork of their lives? Or at least of the government/society they live in?

Cassian doesn't like doing reports but he's very good at doing them. They're part of his job and he's efficient at them.

Moist finds paperwork interesting because that's his way into getting people's trust, if you have the right papers, people will believe anything.

Paperwork isn't as much of thing for my others. Charles has accountants and lawyers to take care of his paperwork.

Barry is excellent at paperwork! Wheeeen he gets around to it...

Being a CSI for the police department means there are a lot of forms and reports and things that need to be done in triplicate and approved and authorized and revised, then resubmitted, then delivered to the proper departments before being filed on his end. It's a lot. And depending on his caseload, sometimes stuff stacks up.

Of course, his penchant for tardiness and absentmindedness has never helped this, and now his superhero-gig cuts into his time for that stuff even more. Super-speed does help quite a bit, but only so far as things he can control goes. There's no helping outdated computer systems at the precinct, or processing times in departments that have their own backlog to contend with.

It's part of the job, though, and Barry doesn't really mind. He could do with being hounded and yelled at by his boss and impatient cops a little less, but that's just kind of how it goes.

Bastion knows taxes exist, as a concept. They've never come into contact with the real thing, having neither been paid nor had to cover their own living expenses at their first job and having since gone on to the occupations of "woodland hermit" and "illegal mercenary/vigilante". Also I'm not convinced they're legally a person, rather than a piece of ordnance. I suspect there are different laws for different classes or individual models of omnics; most of the ones who actually participate in society on-screen (even as second-class citizens) are humanoid models.

If they did have to do taxes or fill out insurance forms or some similar paperwork (right now I'm personally mired in a passport reapplication, for instance), they'd probably be good at it; they'd read the instructions before they started and then carry them out. It's not a very interesting activity, but they don't find it difficult.

Mission reports are probably the only kind of paperwork they regularly do; Bastion's are clear, concise, promptly submitted, and very, very straightforward.
