Last Night:

Crowley and Aziraphale enter together, acquire apple martinis, and snark about the toaster and Aziraphale's couch for a bit. Aziraphale muses on the possibility of a guest room. Cue Tonks, and a bit of teasing about Charlie.

Something catches Crowley's eye, and he and Tonks swoop in and shoo Tom away from Moiraine. Mission accomplished, more apple-flavoured drinks are acquired, and the group briefly discuss Dark wizards. Multiple apple-y drinks later, Aziraphale apologises to Tonks for toasting her CD, and it is discovered that Crowley was in Aziraphale's bookshop when it was burned down during the Non-Apocalypse. Aziraphale belatedly freaks out.

Aziraphale and Tonks talk about boys and shopping. Eventually, Aziraphale has drunk enough apple-flavoured alcoholic beverages that Crowley is able to persuade him to sing for Tonks. It reminds Aziraphale and Crowley of home, which depresses them a bit. They decide to remedy this by getting even drunker on even more apple-flavoured drinks. Unfortunately, we all know what happens when these two get drunk. And no, it's not wingsmut. It is, however, quite romantic by their (admittedly low) standards. They share their First Kiss. Crowley Does Not React Well. Aziraphale is upset, and leaves. Crowley follows.

*wonders what would happen if Lyra caught Aziraphale at an unguarded moment, talked to him about angels, and introduced him to some red fruits she knows from the nice planet with the strange animals*

(Yes, Lyra's an evil temptress. It's canon.)

The short form: (MAJOR spoiler, and thus tagged; select the text to be able to read it)

Lyra is Eve. The red fruit is the Apple of Knowledge, which Lyra eats, tempts her beloved Will with, and then enjoys a tasteful fade-to-black after which the world has been saved for the forces of joy, lust, atheism and rebellion in general. The series makes very clear that Lyra's on the side of Evil, and that Evil is the Right Side to Be On because Good is Soul-Destroyingly Boring and Dictatorial.

We need an Aziraphale/Crowley colourbar.

Fuck, we need a Milliways colourbar.

O_O Why did I hate those books so much?

I definitely need to reread HDM.

Every character gets a square by themselves, because eventually, they'll be paired with everyone? (except Door/Tom and Corwley/Aziraphale, because their loves are Pure, Wholesome, and Loyal.

Works for me.

Biggest. Colourbar. Ever.

*smirks* I'll sell everyone on Philip Pullman. Everyone. And in that day they will erect the Republic of Heaven...

Well, and Ros and Guil, but they haven't been around because it's really boring to play a couple happily and ordinarily in love.

It's just... hello, Bible symbolism. Yum. That's like my literary kink. <333333

Whoever does this would have my everlasting love and devotion. *looks around hopefully* Anyone?

*raises glass* Hear hear for Bible symbolism!

In RL I study quite a bit of religious literature, so I'm delighted when books invoke it. HDM is mainly built on Milton's Paradise Lost as revisited by William Blake, rather than coming directly from the Bible, but it's still Bible fanfic in the end. [/nerd moment]

Bible fanfic? I never thought of it that way! *squees* *turns green at the idea of Bible slash* There is nothing holy, literally.

Paradise Lost, eh? *muses*

[livejournal.com profile] daegaer writes Bible slash, and so does [livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge. Quite a number of people write New Testament slash, but I tend to ignore that, not being very interested in the NT canon.

People have been writing Bible fanfic for thousands of years. They just called it exegesis, or midrash, or deuterocanonical literature. You should see what the Talmudic rabbis say about various Biblical figures' sex lives.

Well, the one that comes most recently to mind is the whole group of rabbis who decided that the real sin of Balaam son of Peor (http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=161&letter=B) involved intercourse with Balaam's talking donkey. [livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge even wrote me a ficlet (http://www.livejournal.com/users/deborah_judge/63288.html) based on this premise. (Don't flame Deborah, please. It's all my fault.)

There's a little discussion in Pirkei Avot, the first section of the huge compendium of Jewish knowledge known as the Talmud, that reads as follows: "When love depends on something outside itself and that thing comes to an end, love comes to an end. When love does not depend on something outside itself, that love will endure forever. What is a love that depends on something outside itself? That of Amnon for Tamar. What is a love that does not depend on something outside itself? That of David and Jonathan." (Pirkei Avot 5:16)

Amnon's "love" for Tamar is actually a rape, so it's not so much of a good example, but the rabbis thought David and Jonathan loved each other.

Oh yeah! I did read something on the David and Jonathon front. Sniffle, and such.

Also, will not read the fic, as I am mentally scarred enough tonight, what with the Dolores/Argus, and all. Euugh. But still, some very twisted part of me sporfles at it. O_o
