Whee - zillula!
OK, so 'Suti had a little bit over a hundred comments on his thread last night. So I am a good little mun and summarise what he was up to.
First, there is Serena. She brings a book, a compilation of practical magic from her world she wrote by hand. Asar-Suti introduces her to the technique of copying books by magic, which she masters, and then tells her about moveable type, which wows her. Pity her world's version of Johannes Gensfleisch called Gutenberg! Introduced to the idea of newspapers, she's a bit shocked about wrapping fish in the written word, and the idea of using it in the outhouse horrifies her. Both ponder the mysteries of human digestion and toilet paper, quite squicked.
Then, Atreyu turns up. He asks Asar-Suti what he is reading, which is 'Sherlock Holmes'. Strangely, the young warrior knows what a detective is. Atreyu tells the purple god a bit about his home world, which was at one time being eaten by great patches of nonexistence. Asar-Suti learns how meta Atreyu's world is by its very nature, but that even some of the wisest inhabitants are unable to deal with it. They talk about having canon woes inflicted on them by unknown creators, and then the talk veers to Cynric and the praise of laziness. Then, Atreyu remembers something he does want to do, and shyly asks Asar-Suti if he'll help him to learn to read. Of course, Asar-Suti agrees. Atreyu then tells 'Suti about Ivy Walker, because learning to read is something of a pact with her, and Asar-Suti is sekritly amused.
And finally, Guppy. They talk about the spawning trilobites, and Mitzi the flamingo tries to catch a few, but the Curious Squid pulls her into the water. Asar-Suti finds the doctor and his bird very amusing. Guppy thinks about his future at home, and how to take Mitzi along. He has chosen a place where he wants to live, and as there's no time passing while he is in the bar, chances are good he'll get it - he already has, in his canon. Asar-Suti and Mitzi both don't really understand about depression - woe!
Two notes: one, it's funny that Sherlock Holmes turns up in Milliways the very night I decide to let AS read his canon because it can be presumed 'safe'.
Second, I'm endlessly thrilled to have my pup make friends with none other than Atreyu from the 'Neverending Story'. The little public library beside the school I went to bought the book especially for me when it first came out, long before the best-seller lists and translations, let alone the movie. Through all the hype I was always slightly amused about so many people loving a book that my library bought for me, the geek whose taste no sane person ever shared. And now, years later, here I am, playing a violet god among a group of wonderfully similar geeks, and suddenly there is Atreyu. From the book they bought especially for me.

While AS was talking to Atreyu and I said the name in my mind, I felt it to be familiar in an RL sort of way. I remembered I have a semi-official little relative named Atreo, and now found out he was supposed to be named Atreyu, only the official who took down the name refuse - that happens here in Germany, bureaucrats are allowed to refuse partents to call their children what they want and can demand a name should be a) usual and b) clearly show the gender.
The funniest thing is: from how he turned out, he isn't an Atreyu at all, but he totally is a Bastian...
