Millichannel is dead, long live... Millisummary?

[livejournal.com profile] stevie_star’s idea for a newsletter community is gathering support. [livejournal.com profile] not_that_spike-mun and [livejournal.com profile] metaphor and I think that what would work well is if it were paired up with a system of daily self-summaries rather like the ones we had when Millichannel was down.

Our idea is for every day someone to make a simple post, and then people could self-summarise in the comments. Later, the original poster edits their post to include all those personal summaries, so you can do a page search on the main comm to find what you want instead of looking in comments.

We also think the two summary systems should be in the same community because, hey, easier. We like [livejournal.com profile] millisummary. Sound good?

If this idea is popular, we’d like to get started ASAP. Create the comm, get daily volunteers, etc. [livejournal.com profile] not_that_spike-mun and [livejournal.com profile] metaphor and I would be the mods of this half of the summary comm; Stevie and whoever else would mod the other half.

Thoughts?

You two need to work together, and this comment is to both of you.

Don't go deciding things without each other's input. That way lies wank.

It's all been worked on together. With lots of input all around. Never fear, never fear.

Sounds good to me.

I think the combination works well. Daily self-summaries keep us aware of whatever's going on at any specific time -- and if it's not important enough for the original poster to self-summarize, it's not important anyhow. Meanwhile, I know that there are several fandoms where the plot arcs are long-running enough that it's almost impossible to jump in with only the kind of background one gets in a daily-summary system, and I am very aware that the DiR/Arthurian crossover is one of those fandoms. My offer to summarize long-term plot arcs for that half of the comm stands.

And it's accepted, but that bit of things won't be starting until August. I'm going to refine a few ideas and post trolling for volunteers again more officially within the next day or three.

Who do you play?

My major character is Bran Davies, but I have several other (even less frequently appearing) characters to my name, including (but not limited to) Owen Davies and the Green Knight. (There's also a pending app in one of the other Arthurian canons.)

Thoughts...

Good idea. But...

Well, admittedly, Stevie's mun is a friend, so I tend toward overprotectiveness. But I think that since she had this idea--and she's spent HOURS working on it--this is more than a little rude, to more or less take over.

Polite way would have been to IM her, or drop a comment with your idea in her post.

This is not polite.

I'm not saying she has a copyright on the idea or anything. (Besides which, we all violate copyright laws the way some people change socks.)

I'm saying that this shows no regard for her feelings, the work she's put in, or to common courtesy.

And also, being a part of this, I was working with her (Stevie's mun) and getting feedback as this all was going on, and everybody was good with all of it happening.

So there was no stepping on toes and no taking over, at least as far as I know. If I misunderstood any of it I apologize profusely, but it was all a group effort, not a decision made by any one or three people without consulting the others. The timing just doesn't show it.
