Silly Meme Question thing again.

We are all Role Playing GEEKS. *proudly*

Therefore, what's the oddest thing you've had to research, for your character?

I ask, because I was just looking up Tudor styles. And I had to once find out when waffles were invented. So... um, yes. What all have you looked up?

Please to be replying here, and all that. <3!

Textures and flavors of Japanese apples, as well as what some are called and where they grow.

(For a couple of seconds of throwaway writing. ... They're tasty, though!)

I've had to clothes shop for a prudish AI. Research old computer hardware. Popular early 80s songs. The first year The Price Is Right ran.

And did you know that the 1982 Firebird was the first run of the third generation F-body?

... *headdesk*

Well, at least thanks to playing Bonnie, I'm learning to fix my own car. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than going to a shop.

Doors. Oh, yes. Doors. All kinds of doors. So that I might, then, go and spew this knowledge via a rather crazy little bird at anyone who dared ask anything of her. Doors.

Um. And I can speak nearly fluant Paravian.

I'm pretty sure the oddest was engravings and wood-cuts by Albrecht Durer. That or Gnostic Gospels.

Well, for PeeJee I learned the S*P archives backwards and forwards. And I looked up generalized information on the climate and dialect of Chinese most widely spoken in Singapore (Mandarin, by the way).

For Griffin, I need a semi-solid knowledge of life in Victorian London, especially academic life. I've researched the mindset of rapists and that of nudists.

For Michael... Honestly, for the time period I've been relying on my own memories of the early 80s. Well, I guess staying up overnight to watch and tape two and a half seasons of Knight Rider counts as research, right? I mean, five am to one pm, twenty-five tapes...

For Stevie, I got lucky. She requires little research, except into the period.

How to give a Father of the Bride speech at weddings. I'm female, and so will never have to do this for real! I was in the library and people were looking at me funny...

- Songs on the late 1938 Hit Parade.
- Casual wear of the late 1930s.
- And just what make and model of top break revolver could possibly be customized into a functioning sleeping gas gun. All of my research led me to a British pistol, the Webley & Scott No. 1 Mark VI from 1927. And if you don't think you've seen it, you have. It's the same firearm (http://www.indygear.com/gear/webley.htm) that our boy Indy used in Last Crusade.

Gods, I'm sure there's more but I can't for the life of me remember the specifics right now... I'll tell you this much. I didn't look up any of the actual Ghostbusting tech. I just pulled that out of my ass.

Josie and I once spent an afternoon trolling around home furnishing sites, trying to get the feel and style of Bernard and Tonks' new flat.

And yes, I have the WebMD week-by-week pregnancy calendar bookmarked. Why do you ask? XD

I think that says it all.

Harry and Bob: I keep having to spin back through the books to gather things like 'what goes into a potion' and varied Chicago-y things (some of which I can grab online too)

VH - (well, not for milli, but for elsewhere) - The year Peter Allen passed to make sure it was possible for AU VH to have seen him (this was for seriously cracked plot); plus he's from the late 19th century - I have to keep checking on weird things like telephones and such, to see WHEN specifically they were introduced to make sure he 'might' know about them - since he talks to ppl from about 100 years in his future.

MacGyver - I'm lazy; haven't actually looked stuff up for him... yet

Connor - usually I have to check his timeline (thank GOD for the fan who put one up) to see exactly WHERE he was at any given time to determine if he could actually have seen things happen; also, research when things were 'invented' or 'intro'd' to be sure he doesn't say he knew about them before he actually did.

Dawn - she's not that hard; that's mostly BtVS research

Martouf - research on him is more re-watching the episodes to keep his speech patterns right.

Not really so much with the research, but I keep asking people in crackchat to check my pop culture references. Probably the weirdest one so far is when the Y2K bug became really big news.
Hey, when you have a character from 1997 and can't quite remember what life was like before all this stuff... XD (In my defense, I was still in grade school at the time.)

Oh, and then stuff for Jane. Which isn't so much research as RPing with my copy of The Daria Diaries open to the map of Lawndale.
Or, in a truly crack-inspired pursuit, having Ji tell me over IM what Jane should be telling Thom, in an attempt to do the whole drawing-lessons thing. Mom's the artist of the family, not me. XD

Weirdest thing I've ever had to research? Oh, man, it varies from character to character.

Baby development, I think. I had to go to some parenting website because I was trying to figure out what kinds of caretaking duties Chase would have been performing for Angela circa Season 3, and how they'd change if she showed up in the bar suddenly several months older.

The numerous bookmarks from extensive researching at Poem Hunter and the number of MP3s of obscure classical music that I've downloaded say a lot.

Also, I know how to take good care of a violin, without knowing how to play one, thanks to RP research.

And I have found an authentic Vampire Killing Kit from the 1700s that I want, due to getting sidetracked while researching stuff for RP.
