Everybody say something --

Because I am a dork -- no, more of a dork than that -- with a lot of bandwidth and a lot of free time, I am assembling a Milliways Soundtrack.

Make your suggestions, y'all, and I will compile a playlist. So far I have a theme for Crowley-And-Iskander, a theme for Kassandra's flashbacks of Troy...

Is anybody interested, or am I out of my wee, small, tiny mind?

Collide, by Howie Day, always makes me think of Tom/Door for some reason...

I shall join you in dorkiness, because I actually have a playlist called "Crazed Milliways Angst."

Um. These don't all have to be serious suggestions; I'm just feeding you the playlist I listen to so you can pick and choose. And people can vote. Or something. And stuff. and i am embarrassed to reveal my dorky music choices.

1. "Worry About You," Ivy (the Kingdom Hospital theme)
2. "Let Go," Frou Frou
3. "Upward Over the Mountain," Iron & Wine
4. "A New England," Billy Bragg
5. "Rain," Patty Griffin
6. "Desperados Under the Eaves," Warren Zevon
7. "Qamat Mariyam," Fairuz
8. "Bonny Bunch of Roses," Nic Jones
9. "My Beautiful Defence," Thea Gilmore
10."I remember a time when you used to love me," Dirty Three
11. Track 1 (), Sigur Ros

um that's a lot. and i'm sure there's more. the "Prisoner of Azkaban" soundtrack, for one. but i'm stopping now. XD

What are those tracks themes for? Or are they just general angst tracks?

Oo! Oo! Interested! (I do game soundtracks all the time...)

Suggestion for a General Milliways theme: Oysterband - "Here's To You"

I'm curious: what're the songs you've got already?

Definitely interested. And I know that Tom's player has made a soundtrack called "All the Angels, all the Devils" based on Milliways, too ... poke Tom when he shows up again!

Also "Sympathy for the Devil": Rolling Stones

"Float On" by Modest Mouse, because Morpheus sang it that first drunken night and now my brain has bizarre images of singing Morpheus.

"Luck be a Lady" from Guys and Dolls, for Very Obvious Reasons.

I sent you a 15th century pavane for Lyra, because I like it.

How about some Ani diFranco for Tonks?

I really ought to ransack my early music collection for something Ophelia-ish. Let me work on that.

I am ashamed to say that I know oh-so-little of Ani DiFranco. But if you think it fits her, cheers. :)

Barenaked Ladies should appear at somepoint, if only because I can see them being particularly happy in the bar.

Oh my goodness, I was JUST thinking about that. Teh One Brain strikes again.

I really liked Tere's choice of Billy Joel's "Two Thousand Years" the other evening, for Aziraphale and Crowley. Except it should be six thousand. But whatever.

"Grace," by U2, which made an appearance in one of the angel's angst-posts.

It seems like every song I hear, I can think of a Milliways circumstance that fits. But my favorite general-Milliways theme song is off of George Harrison's last album: "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there..."

Shall ponder more.

I want to suggest an Anthy song, but I can't think of any right now. *sniffles*

[identity profile] a-tendo.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*thinks* Savage Garden's 'Break Me, Shake Me', maybe?

Rufus Wainwright's 'Hallelujah' and Gin Blossom's 'Follow You Down' (at least think that's what it's called, may have the name wrong) always brings to mind Aziraphale and Crowley angst for me. *nominates*

[identity profile] bobby-gadling.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
How could I forget "Hallelujah?" Yes! It is the perfect song.

Just thought of U2's "Until The End Of The World."
Possibly Aziraphale/Crowley, possibly someone else.

Because between Jane, Sario, Beth, and any other art types I may be neglecting, we've got justification:
"When I Go Out With Artists" - Crash Test Dummies.
Because half the Threadzillae are this painful, but we come back anyway: "You're Breaking My Heart" - Harry Nilsson.
Because even though they have much better songs, this is a bar, so it's only fitting: "Alcohol" - Barenaked Ladies.
Because of the lake party: "The Swimming Song" - Loudon Wainwright. (Rufus's dad, if memory serves. And for more alcohol-related fun, he also did "Down Drinking at the Bar.")

[identity profile] a-fell.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And he did a song about Hardy Boys incest. And frankly, it's only a matter of time...

[identity profile] the-woodpecker.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Poses" and "The Tower of Learning" by Rufus Wainwright. For Crowlet and Aziraphale's cosmically doomed love affair.

[identity profile] a-fell.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Kassandra makes me think of Visitor by onelinedrawing, actually.

I am like a $20 bill
Changing hands when food is bought
or tanks are filled
Move through others' lives so easily
I am like a $20 bill

Just... she was looking for something. I guess she's found it now, so it doesn't apply so much, but... I dunno. *g*

Ooh! "I Am a Rock" for Anthy. *g*

[personal profile] lyra_silver 2004-07-25 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
The content is perfect. For some reason, though, Anthy doesn't sound like S&G to me. Maybe if there were some bizarre pop cover with a vaguely Asian sound?

"Barbie Girl" by Aqua.

For Barbie.

[identity profile] a-tendo.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Barbie whole-heartedly agrees. Or more, she lies on my floor screaming, but cannot do anything as I giggle at the mere thought. Oh, the power.

Maroon 5 - Secret

Everyone has a secret
But can they keep it
Oh No they can't

So Milliways. :D And the Maroon 5 album (Songs About Jane) is my Bartleby/Fool soundtrack.

One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Milliways, not Bangkok :D But I think those lines are perfect.

Late addition, but: Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't, by Brand New. (The title, believe me, is very misleading.)

I think that "River of Dreams" by Billy Joel (http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/17138/Billy_Joel/River_Of_Dreams/) is Peter's song:

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the valley of fear
To a river so deep

And I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I would never lose
Something somebody stole

I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is that I've been looking for

[identity profile] tropes.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Evil Angel" by Rufus Wainwright (I know, I'm obsessed) seems rather appropriate now. :D
