Oh, T3h Summ4ries

Crowley arrives, and is catatonic. He is terribly curt with both George and Snow White. Lucifer tries to bait him, but Crowley's too far gone for even that to get a rise out of him.

The only thing that snaps him out of it is the arrival of Kassandra. Last night is a bit of a blur for Crowley, but he's fairly sure he's done something bad. When he finds out what this is, he is suitably contrite. So much so that, ignoring Door and Tom's sniping, he shocks the bejeesus out of Kassandra by actually saying the S-Word.

So gobsmacked is Kassandra that she bursts into tears. Crowley's sekritly a sucker for crying women - he just doesn't know how to deal with them. Kassandra is amazingly sweet, and makes Crowley not!cry. Prompted by her, Crowley resolves to make amends and to go and find Aziraphale.

Unfortunately, the moment is spoiled when Kassandra, after touching Crowley's face, begins to See a certain Revolt. Crowley wibs out a bit, which is only made worse when Kassandra coughs up some blood. Distracting Kassandra with some backstory, Crowley finds that she's managed to cut herself on a vision!sword. Crowley picks her up and carries her over to Peter, but not before Kassandra manages to call Crowley by his very oldest name. Peter heals Kassandra, and Crowley carts her off to bed.

You know what, I'm going to have to get a spare heart just for Kassandra and Crowley and Aziraphale (and maybe a few others) to take turns breaking.

Damn you people are good.

Ickle Crowleymun is so modest. I do not know why. (bonks Crowleymun)

You ought to come hunt up Kassandra sometime.

You were both awesome last night.

Looked up the name that Kassandra called Crowley.

Camiel (or Camael, Khemuel, Chamuel, or anything within reason)is, indeed, in angelology, a fallen angel.

From http://demons.monstrous.com/angel_hierarchy.htm:

Camael is the leader of the order [of angels known as the Powers]. The Powers are also known as the Dynamis, the Potentiates, and the Authorities. They are said to be the first angels created by God, and are said to reside along the border between the first and second heavens. Their job is to guard against demons. [Camael's] name means "he who sees God" and the Magus suggests that he is one of the seven angels who stands in the Presence of God. Camael is also identified as a Duke of Hell. He is said to have the body of a leopard.

Others believe him to be associated with Mars, the god of war. He also is commander of Destruction, Punishment, Vengeance, and Death. As Kemuel, he acts as a mediator between Israel and the Hierarchs of the seventh heaven.

Legends surrounding Camael claim it was he who wrestled with Jacob, he appeared to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and even that he tried to prevent Moses from receiving the Torah from God. [For this last, it is said that God destroyed him or that he fell from grace into Hell.]

The Powers are said to be the angels who guide the soul. They try to balance the good with the bad in hopes that the bad will not overpower the good, and hence, the individual will fall to the darker side. It is also said that they guide souls that have left the body and have lost their way.

Oddly enough, at least three sites (which I could not copy, due to issues of copyright) mention Camiel as being, in his angelic state, "The Angel of Pure Love."

Think about that. An angel whose function was to love...becoming Crowley. Who is forbidden, by rules, custom and his demonic nature from doing that which he was created to do.

I'll be wibbling over in the corner, I think.

((does preen, now, really does))

Kassandra? Doesn't mess around. :)

And Kassandra's Mun is a scorching academic with mad prowess at the Looking Up of Cleverness.

...seriously. Peter-mun. Thank you. I feel like dancing around like an egotistical twit singing "SOMEONE NOTICED!!"

"Scorching academic." I knew there was a reason I liked you. :)

You liked me because, from one former reigning entity of a place to another, we class the place up significantly. :)

Also mad skillz with teh research.

I figured, if I'm going to be so utterly damned audacious as to name someone else's character...

Jesus Christ.

That is pure genius.

Thanks for the info, Peter-mun. <3

[Camael's] name means "he who sees God"

...In what language?

[personal profile] veryvorkosigan 2004-07-29 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Is it? Near as I can make the etymology, "he who sees God" would be Roe'el or similar.

I'd need to see it spelled out rather than transliterated, but "Camael" sounds to me more like it'd mean "like unto God".

[identity profile] kassandraloxias.livejournal.com 2004-07-29 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Dunno really. Need to ask Lyra_silver, she's the Hebrew Dweeb. (sighs)

I'm sure it isn't one of the Aramaic ones...

I'm in the sixth week of basic modern intensive Hebrew, thank you very much. This does not make me someone who knows Everything Hebrew There Is. Roe'el makes sense to me as "he who sees God", and Camael... I don't think it would be "like unto God," as I believe "k'mo" is a modern way of saying "like" while "k'" is a Biblical way of saying like, but I may be wrong. Maybe "God rises up," from the verb "lakum"?

(Sorry, I'm lazy, I only have an hour lunch break, and I don't have time to figure out how to spell this stuff in Hebrew using my unicode alphabet. Will be back with more spellings and possible meanings later.)

*thinks about "mi kamocha"* Then again, you may be right about "like unto God", but that might also be Camoel.

erm ... this is going to sound awfully rank-pulling, but I can't think of a better way to say it: I've been learning Hebrew since approximately kindergarten. Which doesn't make me The World's Expert either as I don't know Hebrew anything like as well as I know English, but ...

Aramaic is a thought. *makes note to ask her friends what study Talmud*

[identity profile] kassandraloxias.livejournal.com 2004-07-29 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
:) No rank pulled. I was trusting my source, Farrar, Strauss' Encyclopedia of Angels, when I picked the name; It's probably very bastardised Hebrew at this point. I have almost no Hebrew, myself; my lingua mameleh was Yiddish.

no kidding? cool. I know maybe two dozen words of Yiddish, and about half of them are practically English by now (e.g., chutzpah, schmooze, schlep).

The Encyclopedia probably knows what it's talking about. I'm just curious about the etymology.

I wish I'd been learning Hebrew since kindergarten. My teachers told me I was, but only now do I realize quite how much they could manage not to teach in ten years of classes. It's amazing, really.

I bow before your far superior Hebrew knowledge.

*does think about that*

*cries a lot as a result*

Brilliant choice there, Kassandra-mun; and brilliant researching and sharing of important information, Peter-mun. Thanks very much!
