Oh, what's one more late night?

Things I discovered on vacation that reminded me of Milliways – the short list:

1) I went to an Etruscan Treasures exhibit at a tiny museum. I saw carved figurines of women in chitons and said “Awwww, Kassandra!” I saw jewelry featuring owls – lots of owls actually, and a lone silver ring with two serpents in the design - Tom coveted it. There were also several jewelry pieces and figurines of Eros – winged male (not cherub) figures. I sighed and laughed at myself, all at the same time.

2) While driving across the state, I found out that my mother imbibed absinthe in the ‘60’s. I’ve never seen absinthe. She went up several cool notches in my opinion as a result. For the record, she did not use the sugar cube method, but just slugged it down.

3) Also while driving, I discovered that “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel might very well be Tom’s song for Door. “In your eyes, the light the heat/ in your eyes, I am complete/ in your eyes, I see the doorway to a hundred million churches.” So, yeah.

4) And finally on my last morning on a tour of the Tsa La Gi Cherokee Village in Tahlequah, OK, our tour guide told us that turtle shells were considered a symbol of fertility. I managed not to burst out laughing, but only just.

Speaking of songs for Door and Tom, I want to make a mixed cd, as my Tom/Minerva Doomed Love Mix is just not working for me anymore. And since our stories here are a collaborative effort, I thought I’d ask you guys if you had any ides for songs. I already have in mind these songs: “In Your Eyes”, “Fragile” NIN, “Wonderland” John Mayer, “I Will Follow” U2, “Clocks” Coldplay. So tell me any songs that remind you of Tom, of Door, or of the two of them together. If I’m not too knackered or lazy, I could make copies and send them to folks when I’m done. ([livejournal.com profile] iopenthings, I thought I could send you one before you go on your vacation.)

*dies*

Ever since I joined Milliway's I think about it all the time. It is embarassing when I start laughing at something that is not even funny to everyone around me.

Dirty Vegas - 7 AM reminds me of Tom. Likewise, same band All Or Nothing makes me think Tom/Door, a little.

.. And, er, please don't kill me, Door!mun, but right now her song is still Tori Amos' 'She's Your Cocaine' in my head. *runs*

*sporfle*

I just nearly yelled "TURTLE PORN IS REAL!" outloud.

It's times like these that make me *really* glad I have an entire floor of the house to myself.

Eee! Tom/Door CD!

Collide, by Howie Day, always reminds me of Tom/Door. And perhaps Accidentally in Love. Because Tom and Door are like WTF where did that come from?

A CD before I go on vacation would be lovely. It would stave off the withdrawal symptoms.

More songs I thought of!

I Shall Believe, by Sheryl Crow (It seems like every time I try to make it right it all comes down on me... Very Door.)

She's So High, Kurt Nilsen (It sounds a lot like what Tom thinks about Door)

I Believe in Love, Third Day (If I had the strength to move a mountain/Would you be amazed by all of my abilities/I guess it would not mean much if I didn't have love. Such a Tom song)

Anyway, address will be winging its way, use these songs or not as you see fit.

My favoritest band in the whole wide world is Switchfoot, but I don't think any of their songs are particularly appropriate.

Aside from that, I'm a huge fan of chick-rock... y'know, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, that sort of thing.

Ooh, there are probably some appropriate Chasing Furies songs, but there's no way you have that CD, so I won't even tell you any.

It's not exactly Tom/Door, but it's put me in mind of Door herself:

Sting, "When The Angels Fall."

These are my feet
These are my hands
These are my children
This is my demand
Bring down the angels
Cast them from my sight
I never want to see
A million suns at midnight
Your hands are empty
The streets are empty
You can't control us
You can't control us anymore

(Yup, I've had Milliways On Teh Brain a lot lately too. Can't hear a song without trying to apply it to somebody here.)

Well, Sting does eerie very well.

Have you by any chance got Bruce Cockburn's "Pacing The Cage" for Crowley?

Hmm. Ani DiFranco, "Falling Is Like This." :)
