*waves, distributes tea* Good day, all. I thought that since many people keep asking me what happened when and where with the Roger plot, I should do an actual summary. I think all of the important threads are linked. Basically, I wanted to put Alanna in a position where her recklessness did not pay off and had definite consequences she needed to deal with. I wanted her to swallow her pride and learn to ask for help.
Um, I'm insane? :D
Way back in May, Alanna and Jon used their Gifts to look into the fire in the hopes of unmasking a traitor. Alanna saw several images she didn't understand, including a black box and a circular room of mirrors.
At this point, she was having her usual occasional nightmare about Roger. Then the dreams take a turn for the worse. She has a horrid nightmare about George that I never managed to write, but Alanna and George discuss the aftermath.
In mid-October, she has a nightmare about Adam. Specifically, a nightmare about Roger bewitching Demon Gray to tear out Adam's throat. Needless to say, she doesn't handle this well, and is skittish and sleep-deprived when Adam returns.
Then Roger reappears, and their conversation leaves Alanna wanting to tear her hair out. She knows he is up to something, but his innocent, maligned courtier mask is in place.
A few weeks later, she has another nightmare, this time about Roger, Ingress and the Black City. She starts to figure out that the black box she keeps seeing in her dreams is made of the same stone as the City. She eventually tells Adam a bit more about the dreams, but not much.
The nightmares start to get the better of her. Impatient and convinced that Roger is embarking on some mad scheme, Alanna takes matters into her own hands and follows him to his room one night. He acts the innocent for a while more, but she soon pushes him into revealing his plans. He puts three wax images of George, Adam and Ingress into the very same black box Alanna has been seeing in her nightmares. The figures are image-magic, and just like her dreams, the box seals itself shut, leaving no visible clasp. Roger states that unless Alanna allows him to drain her Gift for a two week period, the box and thus the people represented by the images inside will disappear entirely.
She does not know if this is even possible, but it's Roger. Losing her Gift is bad. Losing the three people is even worse. Thus, early the next morning, she sucks it up and goes to get her spinal nectar drained. Roger surprises her by taking it through blood.
The Sight tells George something is wrong, and he finds her in her room after the fact. Shockingly, she is stubborn and won't tell him a thing. Later, he helps her out to the bar, and she is equally stubborn at Indy and Raven before asking Cera to keep an eye out for Adam and Ingress. (Cera is love.)
The next day, Thom discovers her lack of Gift. Although she doesn't exactly lie to him, she isn't forthcoming about it either. Adam joins them, distracting the twins for a moment. Once they thoroughly disturb Thom, Adam is clued in. Alanna remains vague.
Thom suspects Roger is involved. Later that night, he goes to Roger's room and verifies that Roger has Alanna's Gift. Thom is Not Happy and offers to get anyone else's Gift but Alanna's. Roger informs Thom that he needs hers and intends to use it to go back and make sure his coup is successful this time. He extends an invitation to Thom, and although Thom does not agree or disagree to join him, all signs point to yes.
Thom wants to have his cake and eat it too. In other words, after essentially agreeing to help Roger go back to Tortall and kill her, Thom acts the loving brother. Alanna still feels sorry for herself, but Adam helps force her out of her funk - with swords.
After her adventure with the Green Knight, Morgan senses the absence of Alanna's Gift. She sees what Roger did and claims the knight as her own. Alanna is smug in Roger's general direction. Meanwhile, Thom and George discuss the problem. Thom is quite obviously a bit torn.
Acting on advice from Fina, Adam gets Alanna drunk in the hopes that she will open up a bit. He gets frustrated with her and asks the hard questions. It doesn't go at all well, and just when it looks like this will cause huge problems for Adam and Alanna, she does some growing up and admits that she needs help. She tells him everything, and in the end, it renews her determination and brings them closer together.
The next morning, Adam and Thom have a "discussion." Adam calls in a debt which leads to both truth and punching. Poor Thom's delicate nose. Raph tosses Adam in the cells where he gets in a fight with Morgan, sends word to Aziraphael via Bernard, calms down a bit thanks to Raven and finally tells Alanna about the fight - some of it at least. Alanna is also baffled by hockey terminology.
That night, Alanna recruits Indy's aid should they need it. No details are mentioned yet. She then returns to the office to tell Adam and bemoan the fact that she will be sleeping alone.
Friday morning, Alanna talks to Adam before leaving for Tortall and an attempt at pulling Lightning free which ultimately fails. (I meant for this to be an OOM, but I started writing it and kept making myself laugh with the following scenario - Alanna: *tugs on Lightning, grunts* People: *gather* Alanna: *pulls Lightning free* People: *gasp* She is the True Queen! Alanna: WHAT? No. No, no. NO. *puts sword back, flees* Jon: *screams, runs the other direction* Ahem. I digress.) Surprisingly, Adam nearly tells Lucifer all. Later that night, Alanna returns after seeing Roger again and passes out, neglecting to tell him much about either Liam's arrival or Myles' visit.
Adam is released the next day and takes care of Alanna, barely managing not to spill the news about Thom. At least until that night. Much sniffling ensues. Even more sniffling results when Alanna finally breaks down about it a few nights later after Lilly's party.
The next day, Adam and Alanna find Indy to formally request his help and give him more details. Indy and Alanna then raid Roger's room while Adam keeps watch, leaving with a pair of boots that caught Indy's eye. In the gym, Indy figures out that the stuff on the boot soles is chocolate, and thus the trail leads to Loompaland.
Having left a rather drunken note for Mike, Indy goes to bed while Alanna and Adam return to the bar for food. Liam and Alanna get highly argumentative over what happened with Old Chitral, and Alanna dances around the Roger issue with a tipsy Delia.
After speaking with Bernard, Adam and Gavroche, Alanna meets up with Indy early Thursday and they gain a Meg just before leaving. Adam moves off to wait with Mike. And Indy's underwear.
Onward to the Tunnels of New Loompaland! At first, theinfiltrators explorers run into a dead end. But they soon find a hidden tunnel to a borehole in which Indy almost drowns in an abyss of chocolate. Covered in chocolate, they soon find that their path is flooded, forcing Alanna and Meg to swim. Alanna is much more successful at it than Meg. Next up is a cavern of ice, and Alanna is nearly taken out by an icicle before they leap through giant fans and move on. That left a mark. The trio start to feel Roger's influence as they are assaulted by visions in an otherwise normal looking cave. Magical spiders strike next, and Meg and Alanna are forced to shoot in order to save Indy from the Mother of All Spiders. The circular room of mirrors from her original vision comes to life, but Meg's deceased status and Alanna's Gift get them through. Finally, they are confronted with a bit of crack before finding the real box and running for their lives as the shelves fall around them. Just in time, Meg whisks them away to the Threshold and then back to the bar. After they take Meg to the infirmary for her broken arm, Alanna tells Indy the truth about the box, then races off to find Adam, while Mike assures himself that his roomie is okay.
Alanna finds Adam, and they ponder what to do with the box. Consulting Thom is rejected, and Alanna asks Adam to try and deal with it. He's wary, and something Mike said (*facepalm*) at Lilly's party prompts Alanna to suggest that he think the figures outside the box. Before either of them realize it, he does just that. And there was much rejoicing. Alanna gives Morgan the box to deconstruct the next day. Both girls are ridiculously pleased.
George, Adam and Ingress are safe, but Roger still has Alanna's Gift. Or does he? While Alanna is off cavorting about Loompaland, Thom makes arrangements of his own. He asks Sario for a favor. Sario delivers in the form of a painting of Alanna that protects her Gift. Not trusting himself with it, Thom gives it to Adam. Adam finds Alanna in the security office to tell her he has a surprise for her. She sees it later, and begins to forgive Thom, knowing the risk he took. She decides to go see him, and Adam comes along. It doesn't go particularly well, but at least the twins are talking.
*collapses*
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who participated. I love you all more than I can say. I'd like to mention that the entire trip to Loompaland was largely Gareth's idea and the painting was Ji's. Also, massive apologies to both Gareth and Becca for regularly falling asleep on you both. *hugs everyone*

Shiny plot!
And I, for one, was very happy to see the return to Loompaland. And the numerous Indiana Jones
ripoffflashbacks were love. And Alanna and Thom just generally win in sibling relations.(One day I want them to have a tag-team battle - possibly ping-pong - vs. Mel and Harth. Oh yes.)
Er, in conclusion, I applaud you all. *love*

AHAHHAHHAA, yes. Twin ping-pong must happen. XD

All the more reason!

Thom and Harth: *blink at each other, paddles at the ready*
Alanna: *elbows brother in the face*
Thom: Ow. SO VIOLENT! WHY?
Alanna: *thwacks him with the paddle* I barely touched you.

...
Shiny plot, though. *grins*
