the seeds of a plot (mere seeds mind you! literally JUST purchased out of a grocery store!)

well...I've been here for about a month and figure that it's time to bust out the potential for a plot that I've seen in Preston and involving some of the Equilibrium puppies Roaming around.

So, Preston is slowly progressing in his canon and looking to bring down Father as Jurgen requested. however what Preston doesnt know is that there's a spy in Jurgen's camp who's been reporting the leader's movements.

With me so far? corrupt 1984esque government, resistence leader, kidnapping, cause dystopias are like that.

Jurgen's been captured, and Preston wants to get him back. Which will mean going into the palace of Justice. at night. And the revolution happening a little earlier then scheduled.

Which means that it's time to mount a rescue!

So Preston needs pups good with infiltration and stealth who can preferably get Jurgen out without killing too many of Father's goons.

Just a short little preclude to the "FREE LIBRIA" plot.

On this note...I have NO IDEA how to Run a big game on Milliways. Is it like regular lj rping with planning and plotting? does it involve massive AIM sessions? ...do I bust out my d20 manual?

Thoughts? advice? recruits? ^^

Considering my pup is bouncing up and down at the idea, I'll say sign her up. (She's a little bummed at the minimal killing, but she's good with stealth.)

As long as this doesn't conflict with the 'free the clones from the Island' plot, all is good. (Which I doubt it will, considering we haven't even had our planning meeting yet. So...yeah. Yay for plottage!)

depending on when it needs to happen, I have a pup who will have the ability to learn a language and change his shape who might come in handy for that.

Groovy.

[identity profile] rimestock.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
... I am more tempted than I should be to say that Tom would get involved, despite being a Relatively New Character. Because, well, if he knew Preston, and could get away with it, he probably would.

But I'm reasonably sure I shouldn't.

(Did I mention the bit where his PB is the one in the icon? I think he's giving me this look right now, in fact.)

[identity profile] wizard-kit.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the part where, since Mary can't actually go, Kit perks up and points out that if Tom goes, he could go, and Ponch really will, because look how they treat his, there, and what kind of Choice is that?

Large-Scale Plots

[identity profile] fellowship-of-7.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
First: Purchase a large bottle of your favorite alcoholic drink. You'll want to monitor this closely. For every additional player over 5, purchase a second bottle.

Second: Set up a "Sign Up" post with timezones and hours of operation.

Third: Check the alcohol again.

Fourth: Get your main posts scripted out. What are you going to post as things for people to thread under? What plot points need to be hit?

Fifth: Check alcohol.

Sixth: Have at least one AIM chat with the 2 or 3 people who you are going to be co-ordinating most with. This may be people in other TZs who can keep an eye on things, or someone else with a character from your canon, or just someone you are flailing at. Throw ideas at them, have them look at step 4.

Seventh: Yep. Booze. Make sure you've got enough.

Eighth: Let her rip. Enjoy. Drink, rather a lot. Be ready to have all your plans go out the window.

Infiltration, stealth, and freeing a leader in a revolution? Max is so there.

She probably won't even argue too much about the minimal killing bit.

*waters seeds*

What Madb said. :D

And, see, Mary's just going to be grumbling loudly from the sidelines, 'cause she can't actually go, and that sucks, but -- well, I'm around as a writer anyhow, evidently. :)

[identity profile] qsilver-lab-rat.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I offer my invisible pup...mostly because he was the one the most upset in my head while watching Equilibrium.

"Well, let's see here: the government messing around with people, making them dependent on a drugs...yeah, I think I can lend a hand."

Darien is an invisible former thief who can make OTHER people invisible for certain lengths of time as well. And he's SO down with this. *grins*

(Anonymous) 2005-12-28 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Also? Totally cool with the minimal killing.

[identity profile] molly-razorgirl.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
If you find you still need another BAC (bad-ass chick), I offer my street samurai. Things like this are, after all, what she does.

[identity profile] molly-razorgirl.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She's from the book Neuromancer. She's a mercenary-for-hire, basically. Infiltration, extraction, theft, assassination, bodyguarding... you name it, she's done it.

Her cybereyes give her night vision, thermographics, infrared, and a date-time readout. Additionally, by slotting a datachip with a map, she can see the map overlaid over her vision with a position indicator.

She also has retractable razor spurs beneath each fingernail, mechanically-enhanced reflexes, and adrenal boosters. Her user info lists her martial arts and weapons specialties.

Sorry, buddy. I've got Ray, a dwarf, a unicorn, and a six-foot-five Chinese kid from the year 635 AD.

But then, I've also got a Sean Pertwee character, so.

Fair enough, fair enough. (And at the moment Father is sort of muttering inside my head about how all he wanted today was a peaceful trip to the toilet, but nooooo, the door just had to open onto an alternate reality, didn't it, and it's got crazy dead women in it who won't let him drink his tea in peace...)

*Raises hands of Havelock Vetinari and Captain Jack Harkness*

Havelock: Stealth, spying, use of camoflage.

Jack: Ex-Time Agent turned conman from the 51st century. He's used to running around not getting caught. Also, futuristic gadgets. And he needs to get out more. *Munly decree*

*nods*

He's done that before - see the Antar plot. So, that would be fine for him.

Mina could use something to do, for another BAC in the group.

[identity profile] ms-w-harker.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She's actually from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie (vampiress). From Tim and Joe Manco, she learned to shoot (millicanon), as well as the mysterious martial arts she had in the movie. She's spent an additional 60-70 years (millicanon) going around and assassinating heads of state that send troops across their borders.

[identity profile] bohemian-mark.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Val's good at stealthy things and convincing of people. She'd probably be of some use if you're trying to go the non-violent route. She's done a few things like that afore. The rest of mine are rather useless, say sorry.

However! I've been planning huge arse plots, both here, and on other games for ages. E-mail me if you want a few hints. I'd post them here, but I just work up and I can't see all that well. E-mail addy is demosthenes [at] crackbar [dot] com.

About Large Scale Plots

[identity profile] always-a-liar.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I've been involved in running a lot of lengthy and inordinately complex plots... And here is the way Rance operates.

1. Get Your People: Find out what characters you have to work with. The plot will be written around them

2. Planning out the Arse: Write out the plot the way you want it to go. It will not happen this way. Do it anyway. Sleep deprivation helps. A lot.

3. Thread in Secret: Start threading it. Be flexible. Split people into small groups so threads can actually be completed, doing it by timezones is a good idea, also by who they like to work with. If you pair people with muns they like to work with you will get better threads. Also, plot-lock everything. Because sometimes, shit will happen, and you need to be able to be flexible, and you don't want the surprise on air for everyone to see.

Notably, thread beforehand. Because it will not work if you do it realtime. It will take longer than you think.

4. Presentation is Everything: Post the plot in some manner which makes it easy to read. Random scattered OOMs that people have to hunt down will ensure that no one will read it. Summary posts are love.

Well, that's all the advice I've got for now.

~Rance

*Waves cheerfully*

About surprise plot arcs... couldn't that describe most anything we've ever done?

(Rance: Er, so, Ishamael's coming back in disguise. I think he might go after Shelley.

Amy: *Blithely* Okay!)

58 Chapters LATER...

It was pretty good, in my humble but accurate opinion.

Are you complaining, Amy?

Was I using the whiny voice? I don't think I was...

I'm just saying.

And yes, it was. I liked it, anyhow.

No, but Rance was using the sarcasm voice, but apparently not enough of it.

He is glad that Amy approves.

Not necessarily! *Merrick-love wibble!*
