Due to a line in crackchat that made me go "OMG NOOOOOOOO!" due to Milliways-style punctuation being ignored, and due to the fact that there are a lot of new people around since Shati first wrote this up:

Useful for understanding what the hell people are talking about when using specialized terminology. Also good for avoiding the implication that various people are in relationships they're not, unless you meant to.
