This is not a meme

just a question.

...what's happened to barwide plot? Or barwide events? It seems like no one does these sort of things anymore, where the majority of the bar is involved. I distinctly remember the day that Milliways had a 'blackout', when all the lights went out. And that blackout came through in entrance posts, in the middle of threads, all sorts of things. I remember it pretty well because it created plot for me; there were repercussions because of it but they were cool and interesting to play out. It just seems like these never get done anymore and I miss them.

Yes, of course I know that there are players in all sorts of places and timezones and such. Of course I know that certain things can mess with a character's plot or whatever...but it is a bar, no matter how big the game is. A physical location with physical limitations and physical realities. Nothing big and heavy with a huge plot commitment, just something that happens. I don't have anything planned, and anything that anyone would plan would have to be cleared with the mods of course, but I'm just saying.

It'd be cool.

*cough* That's all. *runs and hides*

Starting on the 15th.
Desh-theire.
As many people as get around to posting in the pre-thingy.
And anyone who wants in after who talks to me.

That's not really bar-wide though, innit? I mean 'lots of people' is not 'bar wide', and I don't think any plot that's specifically organized around one person could ever really be.

This is not me putting down your plot in any way, I just think it's not what she's talking about here.

The last time i did something similar, it ended up bar-wide. This will be in the bar, not in OOMs, and it will most likely have plenty of chances for anyone who feels like getting involved to do so even if they don't sign up, as there will be a fairly significant number of people running around rather insane for a while.

In the end "bar wide" means only as much as the number of people who join in to anything.

My guess? Things were just more flexible in those days because we had no fucking clue. You could add on an Emergency Potato or grove in the woods at will without thinking to or needing to check with people. We were all starting out on shaky little newbie RPer legs, and now when we're supposedly standing strong, we just get more nervous over suggesting anything that would affect everyone without making a dozen pings to mods and anyone it might possibly affect, and the loss of impulse takes away the fun of doing it in the first place.

Sounds kind of fun,

*points at Plot With Rocks In* Er, perhaps that wasn't as bar-wide as it was intended. But we tried.

We should hold a suggestion poll for Things Anyone Can Involve Themself In Regardless of Overarching Plot.

Who knows? It might just spark a few ideas people have had for the bar but never had the nerve to ask.

Plot With Rocks In was as bar-wide as I could get it without utterly losing it myself (and that nearly happened anyway). I think it's a matter of more people being in the game translating to a smaller pool of characters that get hit somehow by stuff, but major plots still happen.
Also, if memory serves, the blackout springboarded off of the LJ servers utterly dying for a day and a bit.

My guess is: The bar has become HUGE.

It was a lot easier to say "Hey, everybody, blackout now!" when we had a couple of dozen people all reading every thread than when we have a couple of dozen plots all going at once, never mind muns or characters.

I miss it too, but I also am daunted by the thought of trying to make it work.

*raises hand* attempted bar-wide plot w/o lots of organization - just notices, b/c it didn't really *require* organization - it flopped like a flopping thing... *was sad*

so - me = giving up on trying... tralalalalala

When's the next one? It's been nearly a year since the last standalone one. (not combined with wedding celebrations, that is).

*has had icon ready for months*

There was one during the summer, surely?

IIRC, there was the wedding reception/lake party thing, but nothing seperate . . . memory might be going, or just spilling over the edges with trying to jam nearly two years of RP into my brain. I still boggle that I remember the first Kingsley who only posted, I think, once . . .
