MILLIWAY'S SOUNDTRACK PROJECT

Okay people, we're doing fantastically as regards webspace, but this is one of those cases in which you can never have too much. If you'd still like to volunteer a few MB to the cause, please head over here.

Now comes the truly gargantuan task of collecting suggestions for tracks. We're assembling two playlists, a score (for instrumental/choral type tracks) and a soundtrack (for regular songs). Post your suggestions for both in the comments of this post, stating for which playlist they are intended and being sure to include the following: the track name, the artist/source name, what the track stands for in terms of Milliway's, and whether you have/can obtain an mp3 of it. For submissions for the score, it'd be nice if you could also re-christen the track with a Milliway's-appropriate name.

Here are my suggestions, as well as some that have been suggested to me by others:

Score

He Was My Son - Theme for Crowley and Iskander
-'Colours in the Clouds', track 12, 'Girl With A Pearl Earring' OST
Mp3? Yes.

Mischief Managed - Remembering the Marauders
-'A Window to the Past', track 07, 'Prisoner of Azkaban' OST
Mp3? Yes.

Chasing the Pilgrim - Searching for Aziraphale in the Holy Lands
-'The Stoning', track 05, 'The Passion of the Christ' OST
Mp3? Yes.

Tower'd Ilios - Theme for Kassandra
-'The Dragon Boy', track 05, 'Spirited Away' OST
Mp3? Yes.

Happy Hour - Theme for the Bartenders
-'It's Caper Time (instrumental)', track 07, 'The Italian Job' OST
Mp3? Yes.

Faun - Theme for Gil
-'Intermezzo (Cavalleria Rusticana)', Mascagni
Mp3? Yes.

I have a whole bunch of others, but I shall leave them in the comments so as to cut down on the size of this post.

N.B. For those of you who have your desired tracks on CD or in .wav format, an easy-to-use ripping and converting program can be downloaded here.

[ooc: well, there is always Vanessa Amorosi's "Absolutely Everybody" - which wouldn't really need a title change - and it fits as 'absolutely everybody' is at Milliways... ;) And yes - I have it in MP3 format]

[identity profile] lord-of-dreams.livejournal.com 2004-08-05 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Score:
Detachment Kit's "Night Of My Death" for, well, all the dead people.
*waves the "I have it on MP3" flag*

Soundtrack ideas
Piano Man
Billy Joel
The quinessential hanging out in a bar song.
MP3? Yes.

Margaritaville
Jimmy Buffet
Um, see this thread (http://www.livejournal.com/community/ways_back_room/191335.html).

My Way
The Sex Pistols
I hate to pimp for myself, but this is Jenny's personal theme. Also, Spike may appreciate it.
MP3? No.

...I have way more than this, but I need to get my laptop back on the internet before I can provide you with a whole list. Right now I just have the CDs I burned the last time my hard drive crashed.

two for Anthy, both soundtrack

[identity profile] anthy-rosebride.livejournal.com 2004-08-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Song: "I Am A Rock," by Simon and Garfunkel
For: Anthy's issues
MP3: Yes

Song: "Crucify," Tori Amos
For: Anthy's other issues
MP3: Yes

Someone had to bring in Tori Amos.

[identity profile] bobby-gadling.livejournal.com 2004-08-05 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of want to stick "Spark," in there (more Tori Amos) but I'm not sure for what. I do have the file.

[identity profile] alexei61.livejournal.com 2004-08-05 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that an Aziraphale/Crowley CD is warranted...there are just so many songs for them.

My suggestions: k.d. lang's "Save Me" and "Wash Me Clean"

Ed Harcourt's "Like Only Lovers Can" (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] the_woodpecker's player for the suggestion).

Soundtrack:

"In the satellite rides a star," Old 97s: a good theme for Hob. I have it on CD and can convert it.

"Smile," Onelinedrawing: another Hob song with overtones of Hob/Billy. Well. Not overtones so much as it IS my Hob/Billy song. MP3? Yes.

"Worry About You," Ivy: Paul & Hob. MP3? Yes.

"Crazy Game of Poker," O.A.R.: IT IS THE MILLIWAYS THEMESONG OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH. And I have the MP3.

Um. I have more but I'll post them as I find the files.

For the soundtrack, not the score...
Song: "A Skeleton in the Closet" by Anthrax.
Why: Because it's actually, literally Todd's themesong. It's about Apt Pupil. :}
Mp3: I surely do got one.

I've got about a thousand other songs for him, but I don't know how many songs per character are appropriate. :}

And here's one I actually did either pre-Milliways or right as I started Milliways. Track list of "All the Angels, All the Devils", with alternating angel and demon/devil songs which do not include heavy metal in any way ;)

1. Angel (lust) - Joe Jackson (in which a fallen angel and an angel battle for a soul)
2. Sympathy for the Devil - the Rolling Stones
3. Must Be Talking to an Angel - Eurythmics (very heavenly)
4. Devil Inside - INXS
5. If Only Tonight We Could Sleep - the Cure ("and an angel would come, with burning eyes like stars, and bury us deep in his velvet arms")
6. "Kinda I Want To" - NIN ("there's a devil sleeping in my bed... I know it's not the right thing, and I no it's not the good thing, kinda I want to")
7. "Love Is the Seventh Wave" - Sting ("All the angels, all the devils, all around us can't you see?")
8. "The Only Time"- NIN ("put my hands on heaven and the sun and the moon and the stars while the devil wants to fuck me in the back of his car - nothing quite like the feel of something new")
9. "The Man Who Wrote Danny Boy" - Joe Jackson (a Faustian bargain)
10. "The Man Comes Around" Johnny Cash (nice apocalyptic ditty)
11. "Tremor Christ" Pearl Jam (more angel/devil struggles)
12. "The Angels Would Fall" - Melissa Etheridge
13. "When the Angels Fal" - Sting
14. "Angeles" - Enya

soundtrack:

Crazy, by patsy cline.
Fits the less sane patrons of milliways (Ophelia, bartleby and Drusilla spring to mind imediatly) as well as all thoose in love.

Transylvanian cuncubine, by rasputina.
One for the vamps of the bar.

MP3: no to both. sorry...
saddle_tramp: character snipped from a Dork Tower comic (Garf - Grass)

A candidate for the theme song bunch...

[personal profile] saddle_tramp 2004-08-05 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
... which just so fits the whole Milliways thing, I think, both IC and OOC. I'm posting the lyrics in small font so as not to take up so much space. lol

Ghost Of A Chance
Rush

Like a million little doorways,
All the choices we made,
All the stages we passed through,
All the roles we played.

For so many different directions,
Our separate paths might have turned,
With every door that we opened,
Every bridge that we burned.

{Chorus}
Somehow we find each other,
Through all that masquerade.
Somehow we found each other,
Somehow we have stayed,
In a state of grace.

I don't believe in destiny,
Or the guiding hand of fate.
I don't believe in forever,
Or love as a mystical state.
I don't believe in the stars or the planets,
Or angels watching from above,
But I believe there's a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love,
And make it last...
{/chorus}

Like a million little crossroads,
Through the backstreets of youth;
Each time we turn a new corner,
A tiny moment of truth.

For so many different connections,
Our separate paths might have made,
With every door that we opened,
Every game we played.

{Repeat chorus}

And yes, I have the MP3. *grins* It seemed perfect for Milliways when I heard it on Hair Nation this morning, so I had to say something. lol

I've got around 3000 other MP3s too, so I might have some of the others needed for the project... I'll be sure to say something if I see a post looking for one I have. I have way too much music. *giggles*

Nice song
minkhollow: (song of the viking)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2004-08-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The following are all soundtrack thoughts:
"You're Breaking My Heart" - Harry Nilsson (Fits all those angsty Threadzillae that we read anyway. It's on my computer, but I don't know if I could send it along; Hex seems to hate Yousendit.)
"When I Go Out With Artists" - Crash Test Dummies (Sario, Jane, Beth Metatronim, and all those other artist types I'm conveniently forgetting. Have it on CD, but don't know if the CD will cooperate. Last time I tried sticking songs from it on the computer it wouldn't even do THAT.)
"Couldn't I Just Tell You" - Todd Rundgren (Any pairing pre-admission, but I lean toward Crowley/Aziraphale: Couldn't I just tell you the way that I feel?/I can't keep it bottled up inside/And couldn't we pretend that it's no big deal/And there's really nothing left to hide?
On CD. If computer cooperates, then on MP3.)
"Down Drinking at the Bar" - Loudon Wainwright (Come on. IT'S A BAR! CD yes, MP3 maybe.)
"The Swimming Song" - Loudon Wainwright (Lake Party. Same CD as the other Loudon, incidentally.)
"Alcohol" - Barenaked Ladies (Once again, it's a bar. CD yes, etc., etc.)
"Something Ain't Right" - David Byrne (Most people's first thought upon entering, I'd say. XD CD yes, and all that.)
If I can get Hex and Yousendit to cooperate long enough, I could send off the MP3s that way.
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2004-08-06 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
And one for the score:
"Theme From The Last Waltz" - the Band (It kinda suits the various dead patrons. And I can't think of a more Milliways-ish title for it, but I'm open to suggestions.
I've got it on CD, but... there's two different versions of it.)

Sirius/Kassandra: Chris Conway - "Proud Of You"
Door: Oysterband - "We Shall Come Home"

For Elric: "Black Blade," by Blue Oyster Cult. Literally, about Elric. Co-Written by Michael Moorcock himself.

Got it as MP3.

Excellent timing: I've just been introduced to Desire's theme.

'Oops, I did it again' as sung by Richard Thompson - (Album: 1000 Years of Popular Music)
Am not a Brittney fan, but he makes the song sound so dark...

Aiiee! Jeff Buckley! How can you know of Jeff Buckley and NOT suggest Hallelujah for Aziraphale/Crowley? Shame on you woman!

Also, check out Cohen's lyrics for the same song, they're good too.
'I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah'

[personal profile] clumsy_auror 2004-08-06 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
My two knuts:

First (because it wouldn't be a soundtrack post if I didn't bring out U2), for Crowley -- "When I Look At the World"
sample lyric: So I try to be like you, try to feel it like you do, but without you, it's no use, I can't see what you see when I look at the world...

Tonks/Charlie -- "One Line," PJ Harvey (yay, 'Nny!)
And, because I am full of Teh Sap -- "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper...or the Eva Cassidy version, which I like better.

I live in the stone age, and therefore have none of these on MP3. Fairly easy to get though, I'd imagine.

[identity profile] vampire-brat.livejournal.com 2004-08-06 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god!!! I never even thought, but that U2 song is so perfect for them! I usually listen to songs with slash in mind, (it's what songfics'll do to ya) and I listen to U2 more than anything else, but I never even... gah.
Actually, I probably never thought of it for Crowley-to-Aziraphale because I'd thought of it as Edge-to-Bono, but it works well both ways.

Back with more songs, because I am out of control. All soundtrack:

"Alcohol (Turn and Fall)" the Baptist Generals: general bar theme. MP3? yep.

"No More Heroes," Violent Femmes cover: general bar theme. Looking for an MP3.

"Quand Vous Mourrez de Nos Amours," Rufus Wainwright cover: Crowley & Aziraphale. MP3: yep.

"How Can You Be Sure?" Radiohead: Hob & Billy. MP3? yep.

Soundtrack, Milliways in general: "Let go" by Frou Frou (I think the title can stay like that). Mp3 available: yes, after I am home again.

I know no one cares, but I still miss Milliways. Life's dull over here.
