(no subject)

Holden is an inveterate observer. So I would love to beg a few of you to give me some things Holden could notice about your characters while he is at work. I don't want to just notice the obvious things and I don't want to fool with your version of your character - so any volunteers? I can help work out what sort of things Holden would notice. :D

Also - Holden has a copy of "Catcher in the Rye" and is still trying to figure out if he is dead, imaginary, or insane. He is gearing up to talk to people about it. Anyone? Too meta?

He produced all seven HP books from the bar in front of Angie - who made him put them back.

Anyone want to get meta with me and Holden? Has this been done? I've been trying to go back and see. Hamlet told me that Ophelia gave him a copy of his play.

ETA: I didn't mean let's make all charaters meta! I just meant the meta that has already been introduced by Holden's having a copy of "Catcher in the Rye" and the questioning of a fictional charaters own reality being put forward by an interpretation of that character in an RPG as the meta. If all the characters started producing their canon from the bar - I think it would be silly. :D

Tonks and Holden have started a conversation about "Reality" - and although Holden is muddled - you'll all have to watch me and my SOPHISTRY!

Alia'll be in tonight. Things to notice: All blue eyes, over maturity, psychosis...

[identity profile] toddbaby.livejournal.com 2004-08-09 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm interested, since not only has Todd read Catcher in the Rye, but he's from a book himself. In his case, he's found that he can only read it up to the part where he is right now. The rest is blank pages.

Playing with Todd is dangerous, etc. etc., but if you're interested...why am I starting to feel like a drug pusher or something? :}

Crichton's a good person to talk to about reality. He managed to calm down a ninja turtle in the same position, after all... :)

:gryns: Why is he so damn creepy? Well, you could read the summary of the book on his info page, for a little bit of insight.

I just gotta say - the idea is a good one. Stephen King used it in one of the Dark Tower books, with the Reverend from... I think it was Pet Cemetery?... who was wondering if he was just going crazy, thinking about whether he was real or fictional.

Also, Holden's fabulous. Just thought I'd let you know.

*squee* I meant to do this before, but I just need to squee at how perfectly IC you have John. I mean, I've seen about 3 episodes of Farscape (and those happen to be very eclectic episodes, mark you) and you play him to a "T".

Whee!

Oh, you should! The Dark Tower series is wonderful in that it's not unlike [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar - it's an amalgamum of characters that have been in Stephen King's previous works, without having to have a working knowledge of the characters to understand the story.

See, there's a dark tower, and from the dark tower spans all these pinpoints, and at the end of each of the pinpoints is a world - one of Stephen King's finer points is that OUR world is one of them, and the others are worlds from his other stories.

But it's been a while since I read the actual explanation of it, like I can never remember the actual description of the Discworld, but I still know there is a turtle and some elephants involved :P

And also, it's not scary. It's, strangely, a fantasy. If you're a "big scardie cat" as you say, then read it :P It's excellent.

*stops advertising the fabulous Mr. King*

But as for someone to talk to, you can talk to either myself or [livejournal.com profile] angelus_amadeo either in Milliways when we return, or on our own journals until we can do so, as we're both fully aware of our books, and that not many people believe we are real, but *we*, however, know that we are.

Holden is precious. I had to say that. *hides*

As for noticing...um. Thom does everything carelessly - sitting and drink-holding and so on. He bites his lip a lot. And when he smiles, it's almost never because he's actually happy. He stares at people he doesn't know a lot, and longer than is normal or comfortable. People he does know he doesn't look at much. You may've noticed the laughing fits. Er. *hopes something in there is helpful*

He can always play with Fleur. And bringing up the Harry Potter books would just make her squeak at him alot and start talking asking him questions about how all her sexcapades were handled.

[identity profile] giftedthom.livejournal.com 2004-08-09 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! *feels smart*

He brings the Duke back, yes, and hides him for five months before releasing him into the wild letting the secret out and bragging like mad. And then after Alanna comes home with the Dominion Jewel the Duke tries to take the throne again during Jon's coronation and lots and lots of people die, including the Duke (killed by Alanna, also again).

And yep. My Thom is dead.

Oh, he should come play with her later tonight then. She'll terrify him even more. "Non? What do you mean 'non'? Here, let me explain it again--"

...give me some things Holden could notice about your characters while he is at work.

Moiraine's physical description is on her userinfo page, so I won't bother reiterating that here. If you're not familiar with Wheel of Time canon-- Holden might notice a generally serene and calm manner and a particular way of speaking. More specifically with respect to the latter: Moiraine speaks no word that is not true. Literally.

And yet, it is said that the truth an Aes Sedai speaks is not always the truth you think you hear. ;)

If it's not too much trouble, though, I'd ask that Holden not produce all 11 books or confront Moiraine with that issue, please. :) Thanks! (I'll explain the reasoning on this if you want to know.)

Alia is very straight-forward and very good at choosing her moments to have the greatest possible impact. She's just becoming a woman, so she's both very innocent and very sexual, in part because she has the knowledge of thousands of women in her head. She occasionally appears to be murmuring to herself, but she's actually talking to the other personalities in her head. She has tremendous poise and dignity, and she is worshipped as a goddess on her homeworld.

Hmmm.
Well, Raph still tends to use his hands like he's only got two fingers and a thumb. Before he moves to a new location he subtly scouts it out first. He'll turn his whole body before he'll twist, side effect of not having a shell anymore.

I'm not sure how Raph'd take being shown the cartoon or the comics. He's spending an awful lot of time trying to forget anything about his New York, so it's a crap shoot really.
