Advice for RPers

So I was chatting last night with Peter-mun and Morpheus-mun about RPing and various related horror stories. Somewhere along the way, we joked that there should be a list of "Rules for RPers". We elaborated on the topic for a while, bouncing ideas back and forth, and lo! such a list was born. It was posted to my writing journal, but we thought that Milliways folk might appreciate it as well.

Helpful Guidelines for RPers

It should be said that despite the title used in my journal entry, these aren't really rules, much as we wish they might be. They're more like advice and guidelines that people of any level might find useful, whether they're RP beginners, experienced gaming veterans, or somewhere in between. They're not mandates, and we're not experts. We're also not speaking for the mods or the game itself. These are our subjective views on RPing, and not Milliways requirements. These are also the result of our experiences at many other games, and not just Milliways. We're not targeting anyone here. Clear? Crystal. Happy RPing!

I swear to god, I've seen variations on this list on 2187321387 different MU*s. You think people have problems on Milliways, try entering in cold on a World of Darkness MU*...

Yes, but this one is our own, particular, refined and specialised snark.

But this list doesn't tell us how to "win" the game!!!
Rawr!

...

Yes, this was a serious response recieved by a player in a campaign I played in, many moons ago. We now attribute it to things that have no definite winner. Things like yoga. Thus, is the way of elder gamers.

Excellently done.
