Uncle Iroh, who keeps my poor Zuko in line, was voiced by the actor Mako; Mako died Friday of Esophageal cancer.

A moment of silence for a great actor who did amazing work for the rights and roles of Asians in cinema and stage, and was instrumental in making the Avatar (and other fandoms) as great as they were. He was also, in other fandom news, slated to take the role of Splinter in the upcoming TMNT movie. Hollywood's a little less without him, says I.

MASH fans saw him a number of times in a number of roles, and one look at his resume at IMDB shows a versatility of some great measure.

He was also memorably the voice of Aku on Samurai Jack.

I don't know if the actor shared the Iroh character's fondness for tea, but regardless, we really ought to raise some kind of cup in his honour.
