Dear, dear fellow players, I have need of your combined canon knowledge.

Specifically, I have an insane teacher who wants me to find three each of 32 different fictional archetypes and I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of unreal people. What I would appreciate is if some of you would peruse the list under the cut and name one or two names (and canons) that fit into the various categories. Edit: This is an appeal to the combined geekdom of Milliways muns, not for specifically characters from Milliways.

She didn't tell us until yesterday (and I did not find out until today)that this was not an optional assignment. One example (that I'm not allowed to use) is provided with each of the heroes, none were for the villains.

(I would like to note that some of these archetypes are really sexist and make people roll their eyes. When she brought this out the class argued with her on some of them. Doesn't matter, I still need people that fit.)

The Eight Hero Archetypes
The Warrior-A noble champion, he acts with honor. THis man is the reluctant rescuer or the knight in shining armor. He's noble, tenacious, relentless, and he always sticks up for the underdog. If you need a protector, he's your guy. He doesn't buckle under to rules, and he doesn't go along just to get along. Dirty Harry.
King Arthur, as portrayed in T. H. White or Tennyson-Scott Summers, X-Men-Jack Bauer (24)

The Chief-a dynamic leader, he has time for nothing but work. He might have been born to lead, or perhaps he conquered his way to the top, but either way, he's tough, decisive, goal-oriented. That means he is also a bit overbearing and inflexible. Captain Kirk.
Roland Deschain The Dark Tower-Jack Shepherd, “Lost”-Dr. Ben McKenna, “The Man Who Knew Too Much”

The Bad Boy Dangerous to know, he walks on the wild side. This is a rebel, or the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. He's bitter and volatile, a crushed idealist, but he's also charismatic and street smart. James Dean played Bad Boys.
Rhett Butler Gone With The Wind-Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (S7)-Frank Abignale, “Catch Me If You Can”

The Best Friend-sweet and safe, he never lets anyone down. He's kind, responsible, decent, a regular Mr. Nice Guy. This man doesn't enjoy confrontation and can sometimes be unassertive because he doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but he'll always be there. Dr. Watson.
Dickon of The Secret Garden-Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter-Jimmy Connelly from The Calcium Kid

The Charmer- more than a gigolo, he creates fantasies. He's fun, irresistible, a smooth operator, yet not too responsible or dependable. He might be a playboy or a rogue, but he doesn't commit to a woman easily. Constantine.
Howl, of Howl's Moving Castle-Remy Lebeau (Gambit) from the X-Men-Prince Charming from Into the Woods

The Lost Soul-a sensitive being, he understands. Tortured, secretive, brooding, and unforgiving, that's this man. But he's also vulnerable. He might be a wanderer or an outcast. In work he's creative but probably also a loner. Fox Mulder.
Chris Larabee, The Magnificent Seven television series-Vincent Valentine of Final Fantasy VII-Andy Dufresne (from The Shawshank Redemption

The Professor Cooly analytical he knows every answer. He's logical, introverted, and inflexible, but genuine about his feelings. At work he likes cold, hard facts, but he's also honest and faithful and won't let you down. Mr. Spock.
Merriman Lyon, The Dark is Rising-Rupert Giles Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Obi-Wan from Star Wars

The Swashbuckler-Mr. Excitement, he's an adventure. This guy is action, action, and more action. He's physical and daring. Fearless, he's a daredevil or an explorer. He needs thrills and chills to keep him happy. Indiana Jones.
Kurt Wagner, Excalibur comic series-Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean-Rhett Butler Gone With The Wind

The Eight Heroine Archetypes
The Boss-A real go-getter, she climbs the ladder of success. This is a "take charge" female who accepts nothing but respect. Reaching her goal post is the most important thing in life to her and she isn't bothered by a few ruffled feathers along the way. Murphy Brown.
Shirley Schmidt from Boston Legal-Dr. Cuddy, House-Clarice Starling The Silence of the Lambs

The Seductress-an enchantress, she gets her way. This is a lady who is long accustomed to sizing up everyone in a room the minute she enters. Mysterious and manipulative she hides a streak of distrust a mile wide and ten miles deep. Cynicism guides her every action and her tough sense of survival gives her the means to do whatever is necessary to come out ahead. Scarlett O'Hara.
Sorceress Iris from the Xanth novels-Laura Palmer Twin Peaks-Satine, “Moulin Rouge”

The Spunky Kid-gutsy and true she is loyal to the end. She is a favorite of many writers and for good reason. You can't help but root for her. She's the girl with moxie. She's not looking to be at the top of the heap, she just wants her own little niche. She's the team player, the helping hand. Fiona from Shrek.
Mary Lennox, The Secret Garden-Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables-Usagi Tsukino (Serena) from Sailor Moon

The Free Spirit-eternal optimist she dances to unheard tunes. Playful and fun-loving she travels through life with a hop, skip, and a jump, always stopping to smell the flowers and admire the pretty colors. She acts on whim and follows her heart, not her head. Lucy from I Love Lucy
Kaylee Frye Firefly-y Lee, Avatar-Magrat, Discworld

The Waif-A distressed damsel. Her child-like innocence evokes a protective urge in the beastliest of heroes. But don't be fooled because the waif has tremendous strength of will. She won't fight back, she'll endure. Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.
Cinderella-Iris, “Taxi Driver.”-Nancy Callahan, Sin City

The Librarian controlled and clever she holds back. She's prim and proper but underneath that tight bun lurks a passionate woman. Dressed to repress she might be the know-it-all hand always up in class or the shy mouse in the library. Scully.
Hermione Granger Harry Potter-Fred Burkle from Angel-Willow Rosenburg from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The Crusader-A dedicated fighter, she meets her commitments. No shrinking violet, no distressed damsel here. This lady is on a mission and she marches right over anyone in her way. Tenacious and headstrong she brushes off any opposition to her goal. Xena.
Kara "Starbuck" Thrace Battlestar Galactica-Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Melaka Fray, Fray

The Nurturer-Serene and capable she nourishes the spirit. Not always Suzy Homemaker, this lady takes care of everyone. She is a wonderful listener and a joy to have around. She's serene, capable, and optimistic. (example cut off by bad copy)
Tara McClay, Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Mother Abagail The Stand-Nanny Ogg, Discworld

The Sixteen Villain Archetypes
The Tyrant-The bully despot he wants power at any price. He ruthlessly conquers all he surveys, crushing his enemies beneath his feet. People are but pawns to him and he holds all the power pieces. Hesitate before getting in this man's way, he'll think nothing of destroying you.
Niska from Firefly-Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon-Sammael from Wheel of Time

The Bastard-the dispossessed son, he burns with resentment. He can't have what he wants so he lashes out to hurt those around him. His deeds are often for effect, he wants to provoke action in others. He proudly announces his rebellious dealings. Don't be fooled by his boyish demeanor-he's a bundle of hate.
Richard III (Richard III)-Don John, Much Ado About Nothing-Detective "Popeye" Doyle from "The French Connection"

The Devil-The charming fiend, he gives people what he thinks they deserve. Charisma allows him to lure his victims to their own destruction. His ability to discover the moral weaknesses in others serves him well.
Big Brother, 1984-Mephistopheles Marlowe's Faust-Harry Lime, “The Third Man”

The Traitor-the double agent, he betrays those who trust him most. No one suspects the evil that lurks in his heart. Despite supportive smiles and sympathetic ears, he plots the destruction of his friends.
Iago from Othello-Peter Pettigrew, Harry Potter-Coonor Rooney, "Road to Perdition"

The Outcast-the lonely outsider he wants desperately to belong. Tortured and unforgiving he has been set off from others and usually for good cause. He craves redemption but is willing to gain it by sacrificing others.
Zuko, Avatar-Gollum, Lord of the Rings-Norman Bates, “Psycho.”

The Evil Genius the malevolent mastermind he loves to show off his superior intelligence. Intellectual inferiors are contemptible to him and that includes just about everyone. Elaborate puzzles and experiments are his trademark.
Arnaud deThiel, The Invisible Man-Lex Luthor, Superman-James Moriarty "The Final Problem"

The Sadist-the savage predator, he enjoys cruelty for its own sake. Violence and psychological brutality are games to this man and he plays those games with daring and skill.
Patrick Bateman from American Psycho-Wolfgang von Uberwald, Discworld-Kurtz Heart of Darkness

The Matriarch-The motherly oppressor, she smothers her loved ones. She knows what's best and will do all in her power to control the lives of those who surround her-all for their own good. A classic enabler she sees no fault with her darlings unless they don't follow her dictates.
Matron Malice, the Dark Elf Trilogy by RA Salvatore-The Matriarch: Fernanda Buendia, “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”-Norman Bates' mother, from Psycho

The Terrorist-the dark knight (not Batman) he serves a warped code of honor. Self-righteous he believes in his own virtue and judges all around him by a strict set of laws. The end will always justify his nefarious means and no conventional morality will give him pause.
The Operative from Serenity-Hannibal Lecter from Silence Of The Lambs-Ra's Al Ghul from Batman comics/film

The Bitch-The abusive autocrat she lies, cheats, and steals her way to the top. Her climb to success has left many a heel mark on the backs of others. She doesn't care about the peons around her, only the achievement of her dreams matters.
Azula, Avatar-Malificent from Sleeping Beauty-Eva Peron, “Evita.”

The Black Widow-The beguiling siren, she lures victims into her web. She goes after anyone who has something she wants and she wants a lot. But she does her best to make the victim want to be deceived. An expert at seduction in every way she uses her charms to get her way.
Blodwen Rowlends from The Dark Is Rising-Catherine Tramell (from the movie Basic Instinct)-Milady deWinter, The Three Musketeers

The Backstabber-The two faced friend, she delights in duping the unsuspecting. Her sympathetic smiles enable her to learn her victims' secrets which she then uses to feather her nest. Her seemingly helpful advice is just the thing to hinder.
Saffron from Firefly-Sae from the manga Peach Girl-Regina George from Mean Girls

Nicole Wallace from Law & Order: Criminal Intent•The Lunatic-The unbalanced madwoman, she draws others into her crazy environment. The drum to which she marches misses many a beat but to her its the rest of the world that is out of step.
Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Alex Forrest from the movie Fatal Attraction-Bertha Rochester, Jane Eyre

The Parasite- the poisonous vine she collaborates for her own comfort. She goes along with any atrocity so long as her own security is assured. She sees herself as a vitim who had no choice and blames others for her crimes.
Nina Myers, “24.”-Judy Barton, “Vertigo.”-Nicole Wallace from Law & Order: Criminal Intent

The Schemer-The lethal plotter, she devises the ruin of others. Like a cat with a mouse she plays with lives. Elaborate plans, intricate schemes, nothing pleases her more than to trap the unwary.
Melisande Shahrizai Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel novels-Melanie Daniels, “The Birds.”-Madame Morrible, Wicked

The Fanatic-the uncompromising extremist she does wrong in the name of good. She justifies her action by her intent and merely shrugs her shoulders at collateral damage. Anyone not an ally is an enemy, and therefor fair game.
Marie Warner 24- Dina Araz 24-Mrs. Islen/Elanor Shaw, “The Manchurian Candidate

Thanks for reading down this far, and I hope one or two of your characters blinked at a description and you'll comment with their names and canons!

Thank you all SO MUCH!
ETA: Everything is filled up, but hey. If you want to read through and comment on your characters, argue with my batshit insane teacher, etc. Go for it.

From Firefly, I think Saffron could fit into The Backstabber and Niska into The Tyrant. (Though he also overlaps significantly with The Sadist, but...I think Tyrant fits him a bit better.)

The Lunatic: Bertha Rochester, Jane Eyre, is the original Madwoman in the Attic.

Silly list, I have to agree.

YMMV, of course.

•The Traitor- Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter.

Hero :
1 Wolverine, in some of his depictions in the comics, is a samurai and fits the noble hero position - Also Dylan Hunt from Andromeda is the very embodiement of heroism.
2 Cyclops and Storm from the X-Men comics, both sometimes fit this one, being leaders who fixate on that leadership.
3 In his movie persona, Wolverine starts off as this mode. John Constantine in the comics fits here too.
4 Hank McCoy, the Beast, is usually potrayed as this kind of character
5 Remy, Gambit, could be here, as well as James Bond? Hawkeye Pierce, maybe?
6 Darkman, and Vincent from Beauty and The Beast
7 This is the other side of Hank McCoy.
8 Lara Croft, if a female can fit here. Jack Sparrow.

Heroines:
1 Maxima from DC Comics(justice League)
2 Raina Wells from Anita Blake
3 Kaylee from Firefly
4 Willow Rosenberg from Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the early seasons

6 Jean Grey from the first X-Men movie
7 She-Hulk

Nicole Wallace could fit under the Parasite, though it'd have to be early Nicole.

Nicole Wallace from Law & Order: Criminal Intent, to drop a canon.

(Also whomever said Judy Barton is a GENIUS, and I am expecting it was probably Frankie who I totally knew was a genius.)

For the Parasite... I'm not entirely sure, but Vincent from Silent Hill 3 might fit the bill. He doesn't have a vagina, and he doesn't really blame anyone, but he supports the cult and tries to prevent Sister Claudia from bringing salvation because it'd be "inconvenient" for him.

...as an avid m'ways reader, but not RPer...

I'd just like to say that Kurtz from Heart of Darkness is not, in my opinion, a sadist, but rather the fanatic.

...He represents the colonial capitalist interest, sure, and does commit cruelties, but he does them for the education of souls.

Excuse the peanut gallery, but I couldn't help myself.
