Because we really need more plots stolen from Buffy in the bar, obviously...
Ignore the journal, it's just the only one with back room access.
Hokay, so. I was talking to the mods about this, and I got permission, and if there's interest, it's going to happen. So this is the chance to show interest/give input.
Interest in what?
Band Candy is an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in which the students of Sunnydale are all forced to sell candy bars in order to buy new uniforms for the band. This is not ordinary candy.
Band Candy only effects adults, which we will arbitrarily cut off at 18. If your character is not human or is a very adult 16 or whatever, I don't care. Give 'em some candy. Fine by me.
Band Candy makes people irresponsible. It makes them feel young again, teenaged, silly, short-sighted and, well, irresponsible. It's not inherently harmful--it's mildly addictive, and once you've started eating it you probably don't have the self-control to stop. You won't hurt anyone on Band Candy, unless they step on your blue suede shoes or steal a dance with your girlfriend. You might play old records, dance like you did when you were a kid, be snobbish or socially awkward, or have sex on the hood of a police car.
You will not go insane, clinically, or get sane if you were when you were a kid. You will not get any biologically younger, or come back to life. You'll just feel younger. And you won't be that inclined to question it, 'cause you're too busy... having sex on the hood of a police car. You don't technically have to have had a childhood to have a second one via Band Candy.
How? Bar is going to get her nonexistent hands on a stockpile of the stuff--details still in flux, but it will be incredibly simple and slightly contrived. And in her infinite mischievious wisdom, will be distributing it. If your character is unlikely to eat a chocolate bar, unordered, I don't care; there can be some melted in their tea or coffee or sprinkled on top of their desert. However, the natural form of the Band Candy is a chocolate bar, so if possible, please do use the iconic image.
When? This post will help determine that, but probably--around Halloween. By which I mean, two weeks to either side. The exact limit is probably whenever people feel like not participating anymore.
More details! Your character can be on the candy as long or as short of a period as you want. Simply have them stop getting a supply; Bar may decide they've had enough. They can become aware of why or not as you want--although if they try to interfere, by putting up signs for instance, Bar will probably interfere right back. Don't ruin other people's fun.
This is a good chance to get characters out of their ruts and meeting new people. It's even got a built-in second thread--the "Oh my God, did I really..." (or "Did we really...") moment. Feel free to incorporate (or not) Band Candy into your plots; there is no pre-planned major plot for it, just cracky good times all around.
Your character can not ever get any at all. That's fine. You don't have to tell me if you do decide to participate--although giving me an idea of how many people want to by posting here would be awesome.
I... think that's it. If you have any further questions, tag here or ping JohnAltum sometime. Let me know if you're likely to get in, and if the time period sketched out above is good for you. And have fun!
ETA: I think it's only fair to add that this was not my idea, really. It came up at an informal gathering in NYC many many months ago, and the only credit I can claim is that I remembered it.
And this is why. Because Meg pointed out that this could very well be teen!punk!Tonks. So I should give her credit, and also go icon that for her.
