Meta-meta-meta...
I'm not really the summarizing type, but I love meta-ness, so here you go. My first threadzilla summary. Let's see how it turns out.
Todd's at the bar after his girlfriend, George, ran off for a job that Todd still knows nothing about. He's looking kinda pouty and eating granola bars. Bernard, bartender on deck that night, shows up and asks him if he wants anything. He asks for a Coke, hoping he won't get a lot of white powder again. Bernard asks him what's wrong with pouty boi, but Todd cheerfully deflects, causing Bernard to doubt his sincerity (by comparing him to the Ken doll). Todd is confused by the reaction, so Bernard explains, prompting frustration and eventual mega-sarcasm from Todd, who is then approached by Dionysus about his missing flask. Todd's his Scoutly best, offering the god to help him look for it, but he's turned down.
Meanwhile, in the soon-to-be-Meta part of the thread, Eddie Dean wonders about the quality of the bar's 'hearing', perhaps sensing Todd's paranoia about getting stuck with baggies of white powder. Todd says it seems to depend on the bar's mood. He's also beginning to sense that this guy seems familiar, somehow, like maybe he's dreamt about him. He asks Eddie why he's here, and Eddie says he's on a long journey. Todd says he thinks this place is a dream, and presses to know more about Eddie. Eddie says he's searching for something dangerous, which to Todd, like snakes, makes Eddie have sudden cool potential in his eyes. Then Eddie explains that it's a tower, "center of the universe and anything else dramatic you can imagine." Todd is once again struck by a feeling of intuitive knowing, and is so fascinated that is answer is "Wow," which Eddie remarks is the first time he's ever gotten that reaction.
Todd asks more questions, and Eddie goes onto tell him about The Crimson King (which Todd thinks sounds like the title of a Rush album or something) and his opinions on Milliways, as well as asking about his companions. When he mentions Roland, Todd feels inspired to quote a certain poem he'd read in English class that year. Eddie says the fateful words, "Yeah, I guess that was King's inspiration," causing Todd to nearly snort soda out his nose. Eddie explains that King's an author who has made the Dark Tower crew his story.
Todd, now feeling like he's really onto something, asks more and more questions. He's blown away by the fact that Eddie has met him. Asking what it was like, Eddie describes him in such a way to make Todd refer to him later as "a drunk and a loser." He starts asking how Eddie got there in the first place, who says that it's all about doors, and is appropriately snarky when Todd asks how the doors work.
But Todd, who likes asking questions, presses on. He says he's really like to find one of these doors, since he's such a big fan, but Eddie is skeptical that it could be done in his world. Todd replies that he must be at Milliways because he's special somehow, but Eddie's still uncertain as to how they'd find the right door. Todd asks if he'll be making more trips, and Eddie says that if he does, it will be back to his Ka-tet and the Tower. He says that he'll know in his gut if someone's destined to come with them - then tells the jittery Todd that same personal gut feeling suspects that there's a reason for Todd's interest he isn't telling.
Todd manages to be avoidant for just about forever, insisting that he's just a fan who finds King very interesting. Eventually Todd starts in on the questions again, asking Eddie if King is his creator, and how much of what he writes winds up being true to life. Todd is dumbstruck for awhile as he listens, prompting Eddie to bring up that gut feeling again that there's more to Todd's question than he's asking. Todd asks, uncharacteristically, how much he can trust Eddie. Eddie says that if he has terrible secrets to hide, that's his own business, privately freaking Todd out a bit until Eddie admits it's a joke. Ha ha, very funny.
Todd insists that not everything Mr. King writes must be true, if he was a drunk and a loser. Then he admits that maybe this guy happened to have written a book about him, too. He lies about King's existence in his own world, and insists that most of what's in the book isn't true. Eddie thinks that's probably a good thing, given that King's a horror author, and Todd's player steals a King phrase to describe Todd, who wants to meet his author and ask why he wrote so many lies about him. Eddie is pretty non-committal about helping him, so he tries to make a deal and amazingly, Eddie complies, getting Todd ridiculously excited. Eddie says it's not his fault if it doesn't work, and they shake on it. Todd thanks him, asking if he needs to bring 'that Childe Roland guy' next time. They conclude their business, and Eddie mentally compares Todd to Jake before the golden boy gleefully skips off.
Then there was a whole 'nother thread with Thom, which was also interesting, but not related, and this has gotten long enough. Sorry if the 'summary' ended up a bit rambly, but like I said - it's my first. All hail the Meta action!
