Help a girl out?

Ok since I started playing Sharon in Milliways i've been very relaxed about it. I haven't managed to get on as much as I wanted and as such I haven't posted a whole lot or met that many people yet.

So I guess I want to know what everyone around here does to get to know each other and thus become a bigger part of Milliways? How do I make friends, become involved in plots and that sort of thing?

I'm really going to make a big effort to play more and meet people and hopefully once I'm on the right track I can start applying for more pups.

The best way to aquaint yourself with other players and to integrate your character into Milliways is to tag other people. The answer is that simple, but doing it, I admit, is hard, because sometimes you'll get discouraged if nobody tags your entry post, and you may often think that you're annoying another player by tagging her character's entry post. But really, that's the only way to do it, is to tag and tag and tag. Pick out characters you think will be a good match for your pup and thread with them often. Relationships will develop that way. Heck, you can even pick out a character you don't think will be a good match, a character who is so out there that you can't even imagine they'd have any sort of relationship. You may be surprised; they might wind up being great friends.

They do that in crack chat, generally. Every once in a while they will post the new name for crack chat, which is an AIM chat session, in the back room whenever the old one goes defunct. You can invite yourself in to that room or ask someone who frequents that room to invite you in. If you don't know anybody in this game who does participate in crack chat, you can always ask for an invite in a post in the back room.

*jumps into threads* There's also recruitment posts in the backroom for major plots.

Oh, and hi. I'm Quin. *introduces self*

[identity profile] quinby.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Sorry. Yes. This is my personal journal. My mun-name's Quin.

I play Mark from Rent, Valentine from Ender's Game, and a few others. I'd be more than happy to get you into something if you're interested.

I second what Midge is saying.

Do you have a AIM?

'Cause I promise you, the only reason my ex-soldier!boy hasn't tagged Sharon yet is because of logistics (I'm not on when you are, etc.)

Something I did when I first started -- even though I was lucky and came into an established canon, here -- I hung out in crackchat a lot and learned people's names. Also, I was an unabashed fangirl and IMed people with "HOMG I <3 UR ICONZ" or something equally embarrassing. I learned people's names really quick.

In the end, though? Tagging people. If you want an OOC conversation along side of it (which I recommend), pick up a IM program or just do OOC notes in the thread. :D I do that a lot, too.

Much love -- Steph Mu Ji

PS -- No, srsly, if you have AIM? My screen name is 'stephmuji'. Ping me when you see me on.

What they said. Some of us don't do crackchat, but that doesn't mean we don't want pings/tags. I'm twintailmadb, I'm always open to either, but chats give me migraines, so.

She's in now, with a huge-ass bruise on her face.

But I'm slow because I'm in class. And my teacher is famous in my city. Eeeeee.

I think everybody else's said everything to be said, but crackchat, at least for me, was an easy way to meet people because they were like, "HI!" and Friendly. So um...Crackchat!

We're really awesome about things like new people. :DD. Crackchat was the easiest way for me to meet people, then I just sorta tagged folks and then randomly imed people with "please don't think I'm a stalker or weird BUT you're awesome-etc-etc-"

As it is, Hi! I'm Ramen. :D And since I'm bouncy like this, I'll make an effort to tag ya with one of mine!

And on AIM I'm clericpikachu. :D

*sits on your feet and looks cute*

HI! I'm Feather. I played Fleur Delacour way back in the day, and currently I have Colossus from X-men, Leo the Ninja turtle, Brooklyn from Gargoyles, and I'm one of those Millicon planning people type persons. I've been bothering people to pick up Boomer for almost a year and a half! And I made little squeaky noises when I found out we had one, finally. You automatically get a fangirl!

The same with me as Mu Ji: only reason I haven't tagged you is pure logistic. Duuuude, next time we are online at the same time, I'm so tapping your entrance post.

And if you ever want to, ping me at bansheebrawler. It's all very groovy. :D

*waves* Because things in chorus are pretty and reinforcing:

Tagging other people is totally the way to go. For me, at least, there's only so many tabs on my browser I can keep open before the whole dang thing comes down around my ears. Thus, I tend to tag the posts of those pups my pup knows, and hasn't talked to for a while, and those posts that I think would attract my pup's attention (example: Somone's juggling in the middle of the bar) preferentially, and leave at least one tab for my own EP. So if I don't manage to hit someone on my run through, they can always tag me. I've never actually said no to a thread (I don't think) on the basis of how pups might interact. I'm a huge fan of crack, and impromptu drama, so just because I know something might turn out ugly usually doesn't stop me.

This would by why there is a small British pyro in my head who isn't best pleased with me at times.

Anyway, to sum up: I swear we don't bite. Tag! Also, I'm E1rohir on AIM, so feel free to ping me for... anything. La.

Hiya!

We're working on making a schedule so that we'll have more bar-wide threads for people to jump in and out of. There's just something special about a random tag from a person during Happy Hour.

*wistful sigh*

And when you do get AIM set up, put the information in your character journal profile and add yourself to the contact list (if you haven't already) so other people know how to get in touch with you.

Lalalala... Tag, tag, tag!!!

Yeah, when I first brought my boy in, (Almost two years ago now) I was just in for fun, a couple times a week, whatever, I just went around, posting in, tagging randomly, then BAM! All of a sudden I had Plot! Totally came out of nowhere. Now he's Head of Security. Weird how these things happen. But yeah, tagging nd crackchat are always good ways to get to know people. We're friendly, I promise. We'll always be around to answer questions and whatnot, especially the ones of us that have been around for a while. Now, I'm not on as much as I used to be, and at odd hours mostly, because of my current job, unless you like the insomniac timeslot, but when I am, I'm always pingable. And also a BSG fangirl to the max. Okay, gonna stop rambling now as I'm a little sleep deprived, and it's affecting my typing. And my coherency. So goodnight, and hooray for Sharon.

[identity profile] sparklegirl79.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 11:03 am (UTC)(link)

BTW, I'm Jess, and this is my personal journal. Thing. Yes.

Archie's from the Hornblower series that Jamie Bamber did right out of acting school. They're great, totally fell in love with his character, and he's totally the reason I started watching BSG in the first place. Also, it's fun to frak with Starbuck's head.

Ask me some day about my meta revalation about Starbuck, Valkyries, and Archie's in-bar wife.

As everyone's been saying, the way to meet people IC is to tag, tag, tag. And IM with the muns out of character, because there are all kinds of instances where the player may be delighted to play with you even if the character doesn't seem all that receptive, or even seems actively hostile.

Which leads right into what I've said before about two excellent ways to get plot: making friends, and making enemies. (Enemies IC, not OOC. Just so we're clear.)

When your character makes friends, said friends' troubles and goals can become yours with remarkable speed. And when your character makes enemies, well ... said enemies are very likely to bring new troubles and goals right along with them. And once you've got troubles and/or goals, plot tends to ensue.

Feel free to tag any of mine anytime, and let's see if anything develops!
