Milli!questions.

Ever wanted the backstory behind a tradition or accepted millicanon that occurred before you started playing? Here's the place, because I've got one that I've never asked about.

The booooathouse?

Ask yours here!

ETA: Oompa Loompas.

Where did the waitrats come from? I don't remember them from HHGTG, but I'll admit that my recollections are a bit rusty.

[identity profile] darthrami.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The waitrats were originally thanks to Paul (Kingdom Hospital). He had "Crack Rats" up for adoption -- they were cracked out zombie rats with bullet holes in them. I think (though I could be wrong) that Gil adopted some of them, or perhaps the extras just sort of wandered to the kitchen? Something like that.

Vicki (who played Paul) made Lynette and I Crack Rats for helping host the first full-fledged Millicon -- I've still got mine. It has a tag on it that says, "the bullet holes are for speed!"

I... think the waitrats were originally brought in by creepy!Paul (I think the LJ's [livejournal.com profile] weallscream?), and then they sort of ended up becoming kitchen staff. And less dead-and-on-crack than they were in their first incarnation.
But this was yonks and yonks ago, so my memory may well be fuzzy.
In any case, they're decidedly not Hitchhiker's Guide canon, and they were well established within a couple months of the game starting. Which turned out to be good, since Bar kept getting blown up/Nuclear Fission Kittied/stolen by Carmen Sandiego/scratched up by Thom at Paul's prodding and put out of commission for two months.

This one was the idea of the original no good boys, Paul and .... Todd was it? My memory isn't the greatest. OOC it was created as a place for those of more evil demeanor to hang out, because no one good could see it, hence, no worries about security (which was pretty active at the time)
IC it just sort of showed up, and was co-opted by people of an evil demeanor.

What's up with the 'trapped inna box' thing? Are we all secretly mime artists?

*snickers* I think it started with mimes. Somehow. "Plz help I am trapped inna box."

And then it snowballed into the spate of entrance posts that were nothing but "[Pup] inna bar," for a while, and then it simply entered the lexicon.

The Oompa Loompas... I don't know how they first came, but they're the cleaning crew. *wants to feel helpful, but doesn't know -that- one*

[identity profile] darksunlight.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Blame Karen for the Ooompa Loompas. And Gareth And I'm sure a couple fo others. Karen Apped the Ooompa Loompas and had them working as the general cleaning crew, but then there was this whole oompa revolution and they created thier own kingdom beneath the floorboards, so now only the Renegade Ooompas actually do any work in the bar.

The Oompa Loompas

[identity profile] sir-gareth.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The Loompas were just a standard pup app in the early days of the bar. I will leave Kar to detail the backstory of their escape from Wonka's evil regime, and how they came to be cleaners. But I think, in short form, they arrived as refugees and 'just started cleaning' as Bernard puts it.

The first arrivals forged tunnels in the asteriod rock under the bar and crafted a fully-functioning world down there, where they multiplied exponentially. Some of the history of of New Loompaland can be found in the narrative to this Indy-Mike adventure (http://community.livejournal.com/ways_back_room/864467.html), from which we gained the current cleaners—to whit: the rock and roll Rogue Oompa Loompas who were liberated from the Loompa jail by Mike and Turtle Wexler.

The regular Loompas are still under a lockdown as far as I know, and as such do not clean anymore.

Who knows if anyone knows this, but... *grins* Since this is obviously not the same Milliways as is in HHGTG, who was the first patron to find the bar?

[personal profile] minkhollow 2007-01-09 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
...Actually, it might be the same one; you'd have to ask someone with a Hitchhiker's Guide character for more on that, I think.
Anyway: The first post was Aziraphael. The first post that registered any amount of 'wtf, there's a bar here' was, if memory serves, Snow White. But that's not to say either of them found it first, as Dumbledore and a few other patrons along the way have mentioned coming to the bar well before their first entrance post happened.

Fried paradoxes. Are those HHGTTG canon or what?

Nope. They started as Gil trying to cater to the more ethereal clientele, along with hot toasted sarcasm and... something else. Clearly, the paradoxes caught on a lot more than the other two dishes. XD

How did the lake and forest come about, in the back area?

[identity profile] darksunlight.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Peter... whatshisface, ratboy from Potter canon. Originally there wasn't much out there, he used a spell to make it as a present to his old pal sirius, who couldn't leave the bar.

[personal profile] minkhollow 2007-01-09 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Peter Pettigrew put the lake in as a present/apology for Sirius, who couldn't leave through the front door for Dead reasons and previously only had a parking lot sort of thing. That would be why it looks like Hogwarts (or Scotland, to the characters who don't know from Potter).
The forest... I think is just an outcropping of the Dreaming, though some of the trees might've shown up with the lake etc.

Tickybox. I mean, really. WTF PEOPLE.

[identity profile] sir-gareth.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I could be very wrong about this, but I think Josie [livejournal.com profile] muffinbutt started that in her mun LJ, possibly before the bar was ever conceived. That's where I first remember seeing it, at any rate.
minkhollow: (all right. tahiti!)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2007-01-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
...All I know for sure on this one is waaaaay back in the day, [livejournal.com profile] miraielle put up a poll as to who she should play, and so many people picked 'tickybox!' that she actually made a tickybox journal and posted it in. (Why yes, there were less stringent app requirements in those days.)
I think the phrase itself might've migrated in from LJ at large.

[identity profile] slutbamwalla.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, here's one that might be interesting to know.

Who was the first patron to be Bound (for reasons other than being dead), and was a reason ever given as to why?
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (i'm surprised)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2007-01-09 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Snow White might qualify. I don't think there was an IC reason, but OOCly, Molly wanted Snow to have a chance to recover from canon and have an actual life.
But that may not be the case; I'm running on recollections here, and I could be wrong. I'm fairly certain 'Bound' wasn't the word for it until Sam explained what he was doing with Sirius and how the spell on Bar had evolved, though.
