A Milliversary Post.
Two years ago today, a wizard walked into a bar.
Within a week or so, she'd befriended a god and a speedster, and soon after, a ghostbuster. She re-learned the importance of balancing witchcraft with wizardry, discovered particle physics and developed theories for why there're so many commonalities throughout the multiverse. She helped set up the trilobite tank and the magical library, she delivered two babies (one in the bar itself) and inflicted Stampy on the world. She even, briefly, fell in love with a dead witch.
Meanwhile, her mun was meeting people and making new friends in crackchat and over IM, and developed an unreasonable addiction to apping new characters. These included an unusually gifted schoolteacher (and later her skeletal grandfather) a space bum, a soprano, an opera ghost, a blacksmith, a werewolf, two assassins, an acrobat, a train carriage, a wonder dog and a baby Triceratops.
But most importantly, about six weeks after the wizard walked into the bar, she was followed by a vampire slayer. Who, unlike most other voices in that head, settled in and made herself right at home, got herself a job, found herself a turtle, . And never let herself nor I look back.
Milliways has been a major part of my life these past two years. Without it I don't think I'd have discovered many of my current fandoms, and I'd probably have been driven mad by my PhD. It was my first online role play and through it, directly and indirectly, I've met the vast majority of my flist. I've also made some amazing and lasting real friendships, and even aquired a girlfriend, which is nice.
Thank you, Milliways, for a wonderful two years. Thank you to everyone who's ever played with Mel, Eska, Angua, Death, Jocasta, Will, Red, Cera and all the others I've had in the time I've been playing. Thank you to everyone who's ever been in crackchat. Thank you to people who have written fic or made icons. Thank you to Nny for getting drunk. (not just that one time: she's just cute when she's drunk.) Thank you to Sophie, Meg, Camwyn and Josie for helping Nny's crazy drunk ideas work out. Thank you to Aspen, Feather and Viv for letting me meet all the crazy people in DC. Thank you to Kate, Amy, Cyg and the rest of the Millibrits for... well, also for getting drunk. Thank you to Alex, Clare, Emmy, Gareth, Heater, Mandy, Maru, Steahl and Weaves, and countless people I've forgotten whose relationships with my pups kept me coming back. Thank you to Bing for... being you.
Just thank you. All of you. I almost forgive you for the money you've forced me to spend on paid accounts, icon space, drinks, and oh! airline fares over that time.
Here's to another year!
(And in what I like to consider a nice sense of irony, two years after the witch/wizard walked into the bar, her millicanonical aunt-by-marriage, and fellow witch, has been approved. This makes me happy.)
