Drunk meme

Hi there!

It's me, Mitch. And I'm drunk.

Which, usually means I declare my love for all of you, and be a general ass, with impeccable writing skills.

But this time, I aim to turn it into a meme. Because I want to.

So, the meme is....Why I love Milliways.

I love it because.... I get to interact. I got to talk with people, real or imagined, crack chat or bar, and i get to talk with you. And I get to play with you. And I can talk about thing, that, in my small little hick town, would get me lynched. Because a lot of you share my opinions on politics, on books, on all sorts of things.

Because you give me new books. I never read Harry Dresden until I came here. And probably a couple of others, damned if I remember which. Drunk, remember?

I love this place, because it gives me an out. I can come here, and be someone else, and have plot, and have fun, crack, or serious, or otherwise.

And it gets so involved. You can ping someone to just say tag, and suddenly you find yourself embroiled in a discussion about the need for Greek mythology in modern times to truly interact....

And I love Milliways, and all of you, because you make me feel like i Belong. And, after a hard day at work, that is what i need most.

So, i ask you....

Why do YOU love Milliways?

Mitch, this post alone is enough to make anyone love Milliways.

I love Milliways because it gave me Meg, Sophie, and Nny.

I love Milliways because it gave me Bernard.

I love Milliways because I have never been loved so well or hated so violently in my whole life.

I love Milliways because it revived my old habit of reading poetry for fun.

I love Milliways because it led me to Good Omens, fic writing, smut writing, and feeling like I could write at all, ever.

I love Milliways because it makes me think, and push myself.

I love Milliways because it gave me the opportunity to write a strong, dynamic marriage after the honeymoon, which is something that's lacking in fiction.

I love Milliways because it gave me Anthony.

I love Milliways because it gave me Sunny.

I love Milliways because it gave me Nymphadora.

I love Milliways because it changed my life for the better.

Oh, Mitch.

<3

I don't know what to say except thanks, so much. I loved their relationship, too, even when Bernard was beating him up.

And thank you for your drunken kind praise. I really do appreciate it. It's incredibly kind of you, and I am all verklempt now.

Hi, I am Midge, and I am tired. But I'll try to articulate:

I love Milliways because it gives me a reason to obsessively research people (say, Truman Capote) and canons (say, the entire Bond series) so I can understand my pups better. And I can't complain about brushing up on my Capote and diving deep into a pop culture phenomenon (what, with me being a pop culture junkie and all).

I love Milliways because of all the improbable relationships, situations and conversations that can only happen here.

I love Milliways because it gives me the chance to explore characters I find utterly fascinating.

I love Milliways because it gives me an outlet for writing.

I love Milliways because it gives me an outlet for making icons and layouts.

I love Milliways because of all the friends I've made here, the ones who have most been able to help me through depression and overwhelming insecurity. They've encouraged me, they've been tough on me when I needed them to be, and they've just been there.

I love Milliways because of all the travel opportunities it's given me in the past year. I wouldn't have ever been able to go to Pittsburgh for the first time hadn't it been due to the friends I've made here. Nor would I have been able to go to the Empire State Building hadn't a Millifriend offered a bed to stay in while I was in NYC!

I love that Milliways has exposed me to canons I wouldn't have otherwise considered. I'll be honest: I am an extreeeeme snob when it comes to what I read. When I go to Borders, I generally go straight for the literature section. Now I'm hovering around my old love, Mystery/Thriller, and eying the fantasy section.

And I love Milliways because it is fun. The most fun I've ever had in my life, honestly.

I love Milliways because it gave me friends including, but not limited to, Saph, Becca, Gramarye, Aspen, Lynne, Gen, Madb, Star, Merc, Adiva, Shati, Viv, Batya, Ashie and... ok, too many to list, just add your name!

I love Milliways because, really, where else can the Transcendent Pig discuss societal conceptions of science and divine revelation with Sailor Mercury? (http://community.livejournal.com/milliways_bar/15766106.html)

I love Milliways because it means I have people to go to pubs with in London.

I love Milliways because I can share my vision of what might have happened after The Dark is Rising finished with several people who actually care.

I love Milliways because once, a long time ago, River Tam duelled Roland Deschain for the Rose Bride.

I love Milliways because every time I read a book or watch a movie, I think, "Wouldn't it be great if someone apped ----?"

I love (and hate) Milliways because every time I get near a computer, I have to know what happened next. Did Mary Lennox tell Galadan anything more she shouldn't have said? Have there been any more wacky hijinks on the Black Pearl? Are Aziraphael and Crowley still speaking to each other? How's life and death in Twin Peaks? What's up with the demon testicle babies? What do you mean there are creatures possessing all the plastic machinery in England? Why hasn't Sophie Hatter met Nanny Ogg yet? Why are Hero Brown and Jayne Cobb so unbelievably cute together? What was Lilly Kane's most recent escapade? I swear, if I get away from Internet access for more than three consecutive days, I begin to twitch. This game causes soul-eating obsession, and I can't bring myself to mind.

Oh my.

Well. I love Milliways because of the friends that I've made through it.

I love Milliways for being so much damn fun.

I love Milliways for bringing me to Quin and the rest of the Rent-muns; just like in the show, we say we're a family, and it's been proven recently that it's true.

I love Milliways for insane things like the bathroom graffiti thread that I just found and laughed hysterically over before adding to.

I love Milliways for the opportunities it's given me for long-term character development with my lovely April. And thank you to everyone who's complimented me on her - it's meant so much to me.

I love Milliways, because where else could a dead bohemian from New York in the 1990's hang up mistletoe, kiss all sorts of people, and end up falling in love with the eldest son of Gondor's last steward?

I love Milliways for being 42.

I'm very, very new, so I haven't had a chance to really get to know and love Milliways yet, but--

I love Milliways for the crack that kept me lurking for almost a year.

I love Milliways for the muns who, despite being familylike, have already welcomed me in with open arms.

I love Milliways because, even though I feel too shy to really get involved anywhere yet, I already love it here.

Thank you! ^_^

I love Milliways, even though it sort of destroyed the Disc RP once most of us migrated here, because it gave me the chance to actually play with music with rocks in and not worry about killing off my character.

I love Milliways because it brought me to some of the most important people in my life, at present.

I love Milliways because it's about the only environment out there where I could play Angel post-canon (and believe me, once Angel moves in, you scramble for an outlet).

I love Milliways because it's made me pay attention to a few more of my parents' recommendations than I would have otherwise. And occasionally pick up new headvoices from said. ::eyes Carl with much eyeing::

I love Milliways because my dead twentysomething drag queen calls a political writer, a former vampire slayer who's now queen of an alien planet, and a CSI about to marry his best friend family, and because my boy genius hacker is working on green-card paperwork for his coworker's tentacled girlfriend from the future. When he's not doodling on blank book covers procured to prevent existential crises, anyway. XD

I love Milliways because Jane Lane got pre-canon Roger Davis to laugh (that's still one of my proudest RP moments) and briefly dated a teenage wizard.

I love Milliways because of the crack, even when it makes my brain hurt.

I love Milliways because it's clearly the best drunken idea in the history of ever. How else would it still be going two and a half years later?

I love Milliways because it gives me cooking ideas.

I love Milliways because it gives me new people to talk to both in & out of the bar.

I love Milliways because it gives me new books to read, movies & tv shows to watch, & a new way to look at the books, movies, & tv shows I already know.

I love Miliways because it gives me new inside jokes, like candelabra.

I love Milliways because of the plots.

I love Milliways because of Lady Bar.

I love Milliways because Milliways is love.

It's escapism at its best.
