Preemptive request for a healer

y helo thar Millimuns.

I have a character who will be going through severe alcohol withdrawal for the next... week or so. Thrills, right? Blame Draco. ;D

I'm looking for someone who'll be able to truck Miniver off to the infirmary and give him a prescription for some heavy sedatives sometime Sunday evening (EST). As I am conveniently not doing a damn thing all day, I just need someone who will be around at some point so I can ping you. I figured I'd post NOW instead of tomorrow evening just so any healer muns who would otherwise be totalli bor3d and not reading the Back Room would have more time to let me find them and prevent such an awful future of bad television or, god forbid, Doing Things Offline. ^_^

Now... how many people have been pressed into detailed research into various medical conditions they would otherwise have no reason to know about just because their pup came down with something?

My guess is a lot. ;D

Thanks in advance, y'all.

ALSO: Apologies to folks I was chatting with over AIM. Express fell down and can't get up again. :(

I'm happy to lend you a Guppy, Ven, but I have to finish this essay first. I should be RPable some time in the next four hours.

Is sedatives the normal treatment for alcohol withdrawal? Cos I may not have time to look it up.

Benzodiazepines, usually. Diazepam (Valium), Lorazepam, Alprazolam, and the like. They're very addictive themselves, so the administration can be either on a timed schedule or symptom-derivative.

Carbamazepine (anti-seizure agent, think "Tegretol" for a brand name) is a useful alternative in cases that are mild to moderate. I think it's commonly used in Europe.

Sometimes antipsychotics are used in conjunction with benzodiazepines, when there are severe hallucinations and the like. E.g. haloperidol (Haldol). When there are delirium tremens with cardiac arrhythmia, something like Lidocaine. When there are seizures, something like Dilantin to arrest them.

Good luck. *dashes off to appointment*
