Hey all.
I just wanted to do two things -- first, to link back to a plot opportunity coming up for healer/medical-types, in case anyone didn't happen to see it before it get et by the backscroll.
Secondly, since I've already gotten a couple questions on this front, I wanted to clarify the role your science medical professionals could play in this plot. (As opposed to your sparkly magical healer-types.)
There is absolutely a place for conventional doctors and nurses in this plot. It's true, they will be operating at a disadvantage, in a low-tech setting where some of the casualties won't respond to conventional medicine, and others will need things like surgery or medicine that just won't be available.
But there will also be a group of less puzzling injuries; broken bones, bites, burns, etc that can be treated by advanced first aid or emergency medicine. I imagine CPR could be very useful. And because it's a triage situation, care has to be prioritized, ands every case that doesn't need magic that isn't treated with magic lightens the load.
Plus, an unmagical trained medico is always going to be more use than an untrained muggle, no matter what the injury. Another consideration is that doctor(s) with training in triage or emergency medicine might be really helpful in a diagnostic and organizational role, organizing the triage properly.
So--this isn't a chance for a doctor to be a superstar. It will be frustrating and possibly humbling, ICly, to not be able to do what they could with the full backing of modern medicine. But I think there's a certain amount of fun, OOC if not IC, in seeing characters struggle outside of their context and still contribute, and doctors are welcome.
If you're interested at all, go ahead and leave a comment here or in the other back_room post; it's not a binding commitment, by any means. I'll add you to the filter for the more extensive explanation post and you can make your final decision then.
