DIY Skate Ramp

YT's not so bothered anymore about being Bound in Milliways, but she really misses having a good place to skateboard. Since she's got high-tech wheels, she can do so on the grass out back, but not the way she likes. She's thinking of building a skateboard ramp, for general use by anyone who's interested. There are four problems with this, rules-wise:

1) It counts as a physical change to the Bar, which requires permission from the mods. That's why I'm posting about it here, of course.

2) Would the Bar give her materials that big? She's actually planning to use a metal, plastic and fiberglass prefab kit of sorts, rather than making it out of wood or something.

3) Also, the materials would probably cost more than she could afford, or at least wipe out most of what she has, unless the Bar (or Landlord, although YT personally does not believe that the Landlord exists) decided to provide the stuff gratis because the ramp could be used by all the Milliways customers.

4) A skate ramp would be kind of incongruous in the Scottish countryside setting Out Back, wouldn't it? Heh.

I do imagine that this would be used by people other than YT: there are plenty of young folks in the Bar who might like to try it out. In addition, YT could recruit other people to help her build it, which could make for a nice plot-type thing.

I'm probably going to get shot down, but I figured it would be worth asking about.

Stranger things have been built out back before...

If this does get approved, here's a thought re: materials. YT could always talk to someone who's not Bound and see if that person could bring them back from their home world for her. That might get around the problem of Bar having to fork over something that big and complex.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you ping the mods about it instead of posting in the back room? That way you can talk to them about it without setting yourself up to be publicly "shot down" as you put it.

So much the better to persuade them, or try to "outvote" them? This comes off as your wanting to put them in a position of not being able to say "no"
without being "party wreckers." Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the first impression I get from how this is phrased. The mods here are usually responsive to player ideas and concerns, but this tendency to not want to speak to them directly isn't likely helping you be convincing.

I do think the idea is interesting, and would be fun for people. But a game isn't a democracy when it comes to admin details. Some things just won't work and then, it's their job to say "no" even when an idea has enthusiasm behind it.

. . .

that would be outvoting.

Which is wrong, as there's a reason we have admins.

My heart just swelled a little when I read your very empathetic and understanding take on the modly position, here. Thank you for that. :)

As I said in your last post, and as others have pointed out above -- it's always better to just email us directly with ideas like this. All of your questions can be answered by the muns of [livejournal.com profile] the_woodpecker and [livejournal.com profile] mnt_mike, who are responsible for all physical changes to the bar setting. It might be advantageous to have a look at both the userinfo page and the FAQ (link to the latter is in the upper right-hand corner of the bar's main page) to get a good idea of policies and procedures. Regardless -- when in doubt, email a mod.

I tried to check the FAQ page earlier and it seems to be refusing to work. Might be the fact that the Bar's not a paid account any longer, maybe?

Not disagreeing with you there, just a heads-up.

However, the FAQ works at the upper right hand corner of the back room main page.

*is helpful and friendly*

And...*two cents*
And yes, mods are wonderful and helpful people that I have had an occasion to talk to more than once. They are friendly and do their best to accommodate the players.

In short, please do approach them. It is a Good Thing.

Thankya! *goes to look*

Some kind soul has upped our paid status, and therefore the FAQ is now working again -- but yes, it works in the back room page, as well.

...Actually the back room is a basic account, and yet the FAQ works. My best guess, therefore, is that you experienced a hiccup when you tried before.

Obviously I am not the Techno Mod. XD

It appears to be doing the same thing for other users- Jill posted about it in the Back Room the other day.

Perhaps as the FAQ was posted to the main comm, not the Back Room comm, that's why it works? I dunno. *not exactly techno-oriented either*

The FAQ is a style sheet linked to the main bar. Therefore, when paid time lapses, and that kind of design mobility lapses, so do the attendant style sheets. Not so much to do with where it is posted as a link as where it is housed.

:)
