As I readied myself for work today, one of two days left until I start my vacation, my thoughts drifted to LARP.*
I started thinking about all of the reasons why me LARPing as any of my characters isn't believeable in the slightest.

Take the Loompas, for example. I'm not three feet tall or orange, and I don't have bright green hair. Then there's the whole thing where the Loompas can sing on key, where as I can barely carrry a tune in a basket.

Mike? I'm far from shameless, I can't juggle, and truth be told I'm not that fond of Chocolate.
Raph? Well for starters I'm afraid of heights, can barely do a single push-up, and while my girlfriend wears a lot of black, she's hardly Death....until she is. It...it's complicated.

So I started thinking.
What ability/trait would I steal from my characters if I had the power to do so?

The crowd pleasing answer: Ninjitsu.
The honest one: The ability to raise one eyebrow independently.

What about you? What would you snag from your characters if you could?

*In case anyone was curious as to why, it was because I was in the shower thinking about all the things I had to do. Things that include laundry. Laundry that includes costume pieces. Costume pieces that will only dress up the fact that I am not, in fact, my characters. See? Totally linear.

I'd like to say I would take Matilda's genius. But I would probably steal Raspberry's total disregard for anything resembling shame.

Zuko's Firebending, Tyrion's Cunning and Brilliance, Hiro's ability to trust easily (and time bending!), Raistlin's... nothing, okay? Raistlin doesn't have anything I want that doesn't bring a buttload of trouble, Jet's agility, Saionji's kendo, and nothing from that one alt we don't name because his life sucks.

A bit more of Will's impulsiveness since he's willing to dare things that I get scared to do and yell at people when they need it. Sometimes I'm just far too polite and at times, he's just not.

I would take:

James Bond's competency with everything he does. Also his car.

Simon Skinner's...uh, money? I don't think I want anything from him. I would say his car, since I love Jaguars, but um. Yeah. James Bond's old school Aston Martin is that much cooler.

The answer the good, noble, righteous part of me thinks I should be saying is Mia's incredible ability to forgive people even when most would think they don't deserve it.

That part of me is also saying I should tell the truth & reveal that the honest answer is Homestar's ability to get through life without doing any real work. XD

Ramon's smirk, obviously! I would give a lot to be able to smirk like that. Or his leer. The leer is pretty awesome too.

Satan - power to see through walls/read minds.
Julian - ability to walk between universes (obviously, as long as there are some, otherwise would come a cropper)
St. Jimmy - mad guitar playing skillz

Spoon's self-awareness, Lissar's ability with dogs, Suzi's temperament, Semmi's intelligence (BUT ONLY IF NOTHING ELSE CAME WITH IT TA), and nothing from Dream.

Really.

Taking anything would swallow me up.

Melou's complete and utter belief that he has a purpose, it's the right purpose and he'll do whatever it takes to see it through.

Fuchsia's imagination.

Sikozu's intelligence. Walking on walls would be fun, too.

Erzsébet's elegance.

Clark's speed. The strength would be awesome, too, but possibly a bit hard to control.

[identity profile] fighter--pilot.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The ability to kill somebody with my pinky.

And totally the Force.

Satine's figure. I ain't gonna lie.

Scar's just being a lion in general. (I GREW UP READING REDWALL. I WILL NEVER LOSE THE DESIRE TO BE AN AMINAL.)

Gromit's ability to communicate worlds using only his facial expressions.

Matt's fearless incisiveness. Josh's abilty to Make Things Happen.

Prometheus's pyrokinesis. Not to mention the rockabilly-punk wardrobe/attitude. Uh.

There's a reason I played Barry Allen. OF all the superpowers there are, the only one I would want more than speed is flight. And Barry (and the other Flashes) always made runnng fast seem so utterly cool.

I wouldn't mind Knox' total lack of inhibition when feeling snarky.

Nut LJ in use notwithstanding, I think I am happy not having classic Kirk's two powers, womanizing and speechifying.

Charlie's ability to play any song.

Jack's serenity. And the apple thing.

Hmmm... assuming the One Power is off the table, there are a few things that each of my pups possess that I'd be interested in.

For Elan, I would want his ability to cook desserts. As a man who has, quite literally, set fire to ramen noodles in the microwave, I live in envy of those who can make food that others might consider eating, especially something like a dessert.

For Asmodean, it would certainly be his musical ability. I love music, but my musical career was cut tragically short by lung illnesses, tone-deafness, and a terminal case of White Man's Disease (no rhythm).

For Mesaana, I would like her organizational skills. It would be lovely to keep track of things and people, and not routinely lose things like my keys, my glasses, my shoes, my truck (lost the damn thing for a week once, it was a real pain).

For Nina, the sheer ability to be a raging badass so that I could slice a man's throat with a credit card then smooth my hair and deliver a snappy, pun-filled one-liner... Hey, a man can dream, can't he?

I wish I had Nicholas's ability to focus.

[identity profile] milkbonesoldier.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ray's freakydeaky ability to pull SCIENCE!! out of his butt and then make it work.

Quinn's ability to keep going in the face of all the shit in the world.

The Brigadier's utter unflappability.

Whistler's hearing.

Zhao's Firebending, because that's cool.

Belar's Will, because when he unleashes it THE WORLD IS HIS BITCH.

Annie's gift in the kitchen, since Quinn and the Brig cover the rest of what I'd want to steal from her between the two of them.

And Wells' healing capabilities and all that goes with 'em.
calluna: (rp; m'ways)

*deep breath*

Nick's (now lost, unfortunately) ability to reserve judgement.

Monk's organizational skills. (bahahaha.)

Mr. Adams' determination.

Arianrhod's ability to sense what others are feeling, and the ability to heal them, and the freaky eye thing. I would also not mind living on a star.

Kick's artistic abilities, even though she is only 7.

Krycek's badassery. (just because he has a kitten means NOTHING, you hear me?)

Tiger's strength and confidence.

... unfortunately, there isn't much I'd want from Roderick. Sorry, Roddy!

I'd probably steal Sariel's whole bilingual thing--hey, French could come in amazingly handy, dialect or no. The piloting thing would be *fun*, but as I wouldn't trust myself behind the wheel of a bicycle on my own, it's really not applicable. :) Yes, I know Geordi did it, but he had a visor. :)

Mac's genius with computers.

Sylar's telekinesis. Dude, do you know how many hours I spent staring at pens as a kid, trying to will them into floating? TK was one tiny step behind pyrokinesis in my nine-year-old self's book. (And hey, stealing one of the superpowers he stole...turnabout's only fair play, ya bastard. *serene*)

Mercer's ability to unselfconsciously run his mouth about anything and everything without tripping over his tongue or boring people in the process.

Sam's...uh...wings? Yeah, I got nothin'.

[identity profile] pirate-gibbs.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing for Sam?

How about the harp? Or the dress robe? How about his sincerity?

Hmmm... I already have some of my pups' snark.

Draco's magic is cool... Truman's idealism and curiosity, Kuan Yin's boundless compassion, Venkman's ability as the Mouth of the GB

but more than any other?

Nathan's flying. I always wanted to fly like that, and had dreams like it. (Like Peter, but never jumped off buildings to test it.)
agonistes: a house in the shadow of two silos shaped like gramophone bells (oh the private light on a michigan shore)

Dale Cooper's communication skills. Up to and including what he can do with interrogation and manipulation.

Destruction's outlook on existence. (While his presence is appreciated, it's not strictly necessary -- so why not travel, have some fun, learn some things?)

Al Swearengen's business acumen. Say whatever the hell you want about him -- he knows how to run a joint.

Bill Adama's capability to compartmentalize. (And all of his books.)

Angela Petrelli's fashion sense.

I would not want a thing from Kaylee.

[identity profile] accipiterpuella.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh!

Hawkgirl - I'd want Kendra's amazing facility with dozens of weapons, her multitasking skills, her artistic eye, and her fearlessness. Man, it takes nuggets to run up to Amazo and try to crush his skull with nothing but a mace.

She-Hulk - yeah, I want super strength. It'd be cool. I'd want Shulkie's strength and her ability to find absolute joy in life. She has that infectious joie de vivre that so often eludes humanity.
varadia: (Book of Lynne)

Nynaeve's iron-hard determination.

Xas' invulnerability to physical harm. (I'd say his memory, but, dude, we forget the edges of bad stuff for a reason).

Door's Opening ability.

Aslan's compassion, so vast it's practically endless. (And his roar, but. It would make my throat hurt)

Jordan's resilience, because at six she's seen so much crap and she's startlingly okay with it.

Dean's car-savvy. Man, I just stare at the engine of mine and feel so out of my depth.

Galadan's fearsome brilliance, that intellect that is so sharp he actually probably does cut himself on occasion.

Destiny's . . . . hmm. I think I'd like his ability to leave no footprints (not the reason for it, but--)

Asyr (who has not been in yet)--I would take her spine of extra super-duper reinforced steel, because anyone who can stand up to Borsk Fey'lya and the entirety of Bothan culture is made of win.

Raven--well. On the one hand I want his coat and all the contents therein, because, dude. But really . . . I'd take his ability to fake it so hard people can't really tell he's faking. Even if it's probably unhealthy for a human being. *wry*

Mary Anne's knack for weapons would be awesome. Especially given that all the shooting I've done has been on an X-Box.

And is Macbeth's sheer awesomeness an option? Because I'd like that, too.
