Remember that meme we had about "what animal would your pup be if someone accidentally hit them with a turn into the animal you most resemble spell?"

No? So anyway, let's do that.


But. . . but who? If you mean "who'd do something like that," well, Kira. She's all stressed about this upcoming mission to face demonic sheep and avenge a dead guy!

Kira? But I thought Kira was not a prankster! Why, Kira? Why? She's trying to cast a spell to enchant a yardstick to reveal the true nature of creatures when it touches them. In this case, DEMON SHEEP. If it's not touching DEMON SHEEP, but people, it turns them into their true-nature creatures. Their minds, their memories, new body.

How? Kira is not at her best when she's stressed. She's going to arrange her spell components very carefully on a table, cast the spell, think it didn't work, and not realize she misaligned an ingredient and made an innocent chair the spell focus instead of her yardstick. When nothing happens to her yardstick, she'll pack up and go home for a week. Cue petting zoo.

Doom? Yes, doom. People will sit in the chair, lean on it while talking, prop their feet up on it. . . and after they leave, they'll start to feel a little funny, itchy, and dizzy. Then, MORWP.

The time delay is partly so, if you want your pup to be a mouse but your pup is wearing chain mail armor, your pup has time to take their armor off to lie down and therefore does not die an unpleasant smooshed death immediately on MORWP. (There's still the closed door of their room to figure out, but they're unsquished.) And if your pup's secretly a narwhal, they'll have time to want a swim in the lake first.

It is not painful. Kira would never choose a spell that might hurt even a DEMON SHEEP!

So can my pup go carry on to their friends? Yeah, if your pup's a parrot. I'd like to have everyone at least spend a little while trying to speak their native languages before figuring out they just need to speak the language of the animal they are for the bar to translate it. This is mostly because I wanna see a platypus devotedly playing charades. If it's blocking your thread, sure, have your pup figure out speech.

Recognising is also fine if blocking is happening and you want your pup recognised. But if my friends could recognise me when I turned into a giant sloth? I'd be most insulted.

Sweet! I always wanted to play a Ki-lin/terrasque/thunderbird! . . . woah there, skippy. Kira is a surprisingly strong witch, but, uh, not that strong. Mundane animals only, please.

Edit: And by mundane, I do mean native to Kira's Earth, because giving her the power to cast a spell that can sift through everyone's canon makes her way too strong for my comfort. If you can offer a good reason like but but I really really wanna and my pick suits my pup really really well ;.;, run it by me. The animal still can't have mystical properties, though.

Edit: My pup would love to be a mighty falcon flying through the sky, but woe, his arm was broken when he was little and never healed right! Er, I don't think it's built into your pup's nature to have an injured arm, so when he gets turned into the animal his nature reflects, I don't see why that would cross over. Let him soar.

. . . of course, if you want to keep a characteristic like a nifty X-shaped scar, it could probably happen. . .

When? How 'bout October 1-7? It wears off at the end of the week (or a little later if you really want,) with only a warning sense of general upcoming-shiftiness to help keep your pup from breaking a very important bar rule when PWROM.

But my pup kinda is an animal. Oh, goody! Your pup can sleep on the chair and lull others into a false sense of security.

You're going to turn at least two of your pups into animals, aren't you? Bad you! Bad! I can't help it! One of my favorite questions when defining characters is the what-animal-would-they-be one! But you can get in on it too?

I'm thinking a wombat would smell like a wombat. It's not a spell that carries over the various eccentricities of the person's body, it's a spell that collects the mind and memories and the rest is MORWP.

(If the mun wanted to say "but since Gaston didn't wash his clothes for a week before he turned into a wolverine, he's a wolverine that smells a lot like Gaston," that's up to the mun.)

I'd prefer it if Earth species only were used. Even at the end of the universe, it seems to give Kira a lot of mojo if her spell can cross boundaries to mix'n'match anyone to anywhere.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm tempted to go "no." We're talking a change to reflect one aspect of the inner nature, not to repackage the whole nature, if that makes sense.

Or, the spell's doing a very narrow read. "You are like a squirrel, here you go, SHOOMF!" instead of "you are a delicate balance between the kingdom of the seas and the kingdom of the earth! Be a mole with your ability to breathe water retained."
