New meme!

So here's something I've been curious about for a while. Probably since...wow, probably since Millicon, when [livejournal.com profile] neenie ran her panel about music and RP.

Do any of you keep character-specific playlists, either for fun or to help you get in character? If you do, what's on them?

I'll start: here's the one I have for Sylar.

What about you?

That's a creepy playlist. You're creepy.

... in a nice, wholesome way.

I don't do this myself, really, but I probably should. I always think "oh, that fits _____" when I listen to songs. I could probably come up with one for Ben Skywalker in about ten minutes. And only half of it would be Linkin Park!

These are Hektor, Harry Wells, and the as-yet unapproved Ironhide playlists.

Ray's is around here somewhere and I have to check it over, because there are a few things that need to be added to it. Most notably the Ghostbusters In Black mashup by MC Sleazy, Forever Young by Alphaville, and Not The Boy Next Door (Peter Allen, writer; Hugh Jackman, performer).

[identity profile] strange-selkie.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Hi! You play Hektor! Hi!

(I am full of intelligent commentary.)

I've been impressed.

Yep. Generally with a copy of The King Must Die open on my lap for reference material, since Mary Renault's version of the classical world made me very happy when I first encountered it. That, and I had seen enough of Kassandra not to be so foolish as to think I could live up to that standard.

One of these days I'm going to have to find some more pictures of his adult PB with a shirt on. I picked an Olympic swimmer out and it's damned hard to find anything of him in clothes other than 'Olympic team zip-up jacket' or 'swimsuit'. And then I'm going to have to bring him in in his twenties.

:) Thank you for the compliment! Playing Kassandra comes very easily to me, perhaps because of the innate crazy :) But I really like what I've seen of Hektor's voice.

I hope we can manage to be online synchronously sometime soon so they can meet. Ahaha. Haha. Mwaha.

I have an elaborate playlist that illustrates, so to speak, the plot I've been doing in my else!game this year; then there are one or two songs which are rather Tower-ish, but as for Teja? Lots of wumpscut and Blind Guardian, and the drummy parts of the 'Master and Commander' soundtrack; plus some of the less cheerful Jethro Tull songs for something softer.

I'm afraid that headvoice likes dark, drum-heavy music. Somehow, not so astonishing.

Asar-Suti, though, has exactly one theme song: Un Mauvais Dieu by the Breton folk-rap band Manau. And Maglor, whom I have retired, had his entire own album by Blind Guardian.-

And Sam Linnfer's is here! I actually uploaded this (with one song change) a while back; if you've got either his or my journal friended, you should be able to see it. It probably needs re-uploading by now, though.

Of them all, for me, I Ain’t Scared Of Lightning by Tom McRae is probably the Sam song:
I ain’t scared of lightning
Come on and do your worst
If they gave degrees for cheating destiny
Then man, I got a first
No I ain’t scared of lightning
It's the same old empty threat
I've been standing proud beneath the gathering cloud
And man, I ain't dead yet

But also, pretty much the entirety of Voltaire's 'Almost Human' album.

I've long suspected that I am the only person in the game NOT to have a playlist of any kind, judging by my f-list and chatroom conversations.

I own the soudntracks from Star Trek II, Batman, and the PotC films, though, and while it's more the music runs in my head without the need of electronics, I know where I can go to find the music if need.

[identity profile] canadabear.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not alone Alex! Not only do I not have playlists, but I rarely listen to music when I RP period, so I 'd have a hard time picking out even one song for my pups.

Not alone! I am horrible at matching songs to characters. I am very fortunate in that many people are much better at doing so and will helpfully send me song names, links, etc.

I have playlists, but the only one actually associated with fandom would be the one where I keep all music from Veronica Mars - I actually often find music kind of distracting during writing or rp.

Generally with RP soundtracks I tend to go for mood and atmosphere rather than specific songs for a character -- I have a Twin Peaks soundtrack, for example (and the soundtrack), rather than a Dale Cooper-specific playlist.

There are two exceptions to that rule: [livejournal.com profile] a_gunslinger and [livejournal.com profile] cheery_mechanic. Kaylee's is here.

(Also, Destruction has one, and only one, song.

Well. Two. But. The first one more.)
ashen_key: (sound of music blocks the world away)

[personal profile] ashen_key 2007-11-07 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
While I DO have songs that reflect characters, generally I go more for a 'mood' than a 'playlist' - mostly soundtracks, like House of Daggers, Passion of Christ and Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

That said, Medusa is generally Passion, Omar Faruk's Dance into Eternity, or Dead Can Dance, while Marlowe is generally also Dead Can Dance (albeit another CD) and medieval/renaissance music.

AJ's Nickleback, her canon soundtrack, and Sisters of Mercy.

But, again, a lot of it depends on the atmosphere I need to create.

[identity profile] rowanberries.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...I should do.

I will do, once I get around to it!

(Ooh, interesting. Watch me ignore my NaNo to leave you an intelligent comment for Doc.)

I don't really have a playlist written out for him but it involves music more for mood than anything. A lot of Tom Petty. Almost all of Highway Companion is a given.

Saving Grace is a definite one.
Flirting With Time is probably my Doc/Billy song for how he feels about it all.

Johnny Cash works, sometimes. Bon Jovi works for the more badass moments, but hey it is a 'bratpack Western'.

I had a playlist for Charles Wallace (and Charles/Antigone) on my old computer which I've been meaning to recreate.

Valerie's the only other character with a soundtrack -- a fair amount of Ani DiFranco, some Vienna Teng, and stuff from the V for Vendetta soundtrack, of course -- but for all my pups, I tend to wander around my iTunes library a lot. Sometimes I'll do off-the-cuff playlists with the search function: "tonight" for sad one-night things, "want" for love-in-idleness, stuff like that.

I really ought to get more Heavy Trash and Speedball Baby for Epimetheus' soundtrack; "Gatorade" may be appropriate sometimes, but not constantly.

[identity profile] leeshajoy.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not really character-specific, but I do have a Narbonic playlist that's 2+ hours long. It includes works by Jonathan Coulton, Weird Al Yankovic, and They Might Be Giants, as well as five different arrangements of "She Blinded Me With Science."

I don't really tend toward character-specific playlists so much as canon-specific playlists, or occasionally ficverse-specific playlists. (When I start soundtracking, I know I'm doomed. XD)
I have... three various Rent-inspired playlists (yes, I know the canon's a musical, that didn't stop me!), one Sneakers playlist that I posted on [livejournal.com profile] milli_recs a while back, and one Pyramids soundtrack. Oh, and two Music With Rocks In mixes.
