"Life Support."
"At Christmas?"
"Some people have nowhere else to go today."

Following the IC discussion between Guppy and Miniver last night, Life Support will be holding a Christmas/Hogswatch/Insert holiday of your choice party on the 25th December (Tuesday).

All are welcome to turn up on the day if they desire, but there's an informal sign-up list for the free lunch. Come challenge Guppy with your unusual dietary requirements!

Further OOC details to follow.

Will have my relevant pups fill out the form later. Knox might have some fun and invoke his mother's religion.

You will get a Skinner. Sadly, I cannot promise that he will be coherent. Also, if I have my way I will be out some of the day watching a mooooooovie or two, so! But he'll be there.

Chiff will reluctantly be around. I will more than likely be on net in the evening, after the Doctor Who special. And stay on aaaalll night. *loser*

Guess not. It's all died down by 22.00 usually anyway, eh. xD

I would also like to say this is a very nice idea for all bound and/or dead pups, or even just ones who don't wanna go near home. Yay for it.

You might get a Sariel. As fun as Christmas is for those who celebrate it on the Enterprise, she's going to be missing her home and family.

I'm kinda curious as to how you see a Star Trek Christmas. The references to it are few (see her (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Christmas) but it does still seem to exist.

I imagine a Trekverse Christmas as having gone the way of most current holidays i.e. become more about time with family and friends than anything commercial. There may still be a religious element for some people - Sariel's been insisting that she goes to late night services with her parents when she's at home - but it isn't central. So, yeah. Great huge family gatherings where everyone eats and drinks? Yes. Religious significance? Possibly. Commercial overkill? Nosiree.

I apply the same general idea to most holidays in the Trekverse, religious or not. Color me weird.

Given the little glimpses of holidays we've had, that sounds about right. Even if Roddenberry would have probably cringed at the Victorian Christmas fantasy in Generations. And would have been even more annoyed with the Santa in the Next Gen comic.

There was a Santa in a TNG comic? *facepalms*

I mean sheesh, there still might be non-religious stories, but a commercial Father Christmas? *facepalms again*

And I don't know. The scene in Generations seemed less about the holiday and more about Picard's desire to have children of his own, so maybe it would've squeaked under the irritation-o-meter if Roddenberry had seen it. Maybe not, though.
