Someone help the technologically incompetent plz?

I've had to finally give up on using AIM. It keeps trying to install AOL on my computer and now won't even let me sign on. So I downloaded Trillian.

Here's the thing.

I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE THIS PROGRAM.

I made a new screen name thinger and got it to sign on but I can't make it do anything else. I can't figure out how to IM people or connect to chat. I suck and lose and am in Talking To People withdrawal. So... can somebody who knows how to use this thing ping me maybe? My screen name is SonOfWormWeaver.

Help!!! *flaily*

EDIT: Okay, I got it to sign me on as Venbadger. I still can't make it connect to chat. >:\

EDIT 2, SON OF EDIT: I'm giving up on Trillian for now because the flashing windows do not make Ven's heavily ADD brain happy, and it won't let me connect to chat. Apparently this is a problem a lot of people are having tonight. SOOOOOOOO I'm on meebo under yet ANOTHER handle, "htarogoehS"

I am not so good at helping with Trillian, but you can use http://www.meebo.com without signing up or downloading (just sign in on the AIM slot, not the Meebo one) and Meebo usually works pretty well.

You can get into chat via trillian by adding yourself as a contact. Right click on your own name on your buddy list and go 'Invite to a chat room'. Then write the chat name in the bottom box (which will have something like Venbadger12345 in it by default) and click send.

It wasn't working. I'd hit Send, and the window would disappear, and nothing else would happen.
