So as of this post last night, Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan is ... not retired exactly, but out of the bar for the foreseeable future.
Cordelia's the first pup I ever brought into Milliways, waaaay back in July of 2004, during the first couple months of
milliways_bar's existence. She met and befriended Will Stanton, owing heavily to the fact that the mun (hi Gen!) was the one who dragged me into this game to begin with; her later friends included Snow White, Moiraine Sedai, Peter Pettigrew, Bran Davies, Jane Drew, a recently orphaned boy named Bruce Wayne, and a bird-shaped Power calling itself Macchu Picchu. She was around for the first Lake Party, the first Curry Night, and the first Talk Like A Pirate Day. She was the first (and, to the best of my knowledge, so far still the only) character to attempt to discover the underlying logic behind patrons getting Bound -- which turned out to be very difficult, because there wasn't one. And still isn't.
I still adore Cordelia, and she's still the voice most likely to pop up in my head when I'm not actually playing -- but I ran out of things to do with her sometime last year. I do want to keep my options open to bring her back, especially since Lois Bujold is apparently writing a new novel in the Vorkosiverse, but the end of this story looks like a good exit point.
*rueful* And I'm still getting a bit misty.
'Bye, Cordelia. Till next time.
