(no subject)

Tomorrow morning (in our world), Emperor Norton will be leaving an invitation with Bar to a poker game over by the windows.

Emperor Norton's Decry
We, Norton I, by Grace of God, Emperor of the United States of America and Protector of Mexico, due hereby invite all those who maybe interested to a game of chance, in the manner of the card game of poker, to be played beneath the grace of the stars on the tables before the windows, henceforth in one hour.

A playing deck and other required items shall be attended to by Lady Bar and as such none will be needed. All interested players are expected to provide some means of exchange to receive chips with which to play. The value of said exchange shall be at the discretion of Lady Bar. Moreover, there will be but be three buy-ins per personage.

The ideas I have for "rules"...
One Pup is a dealer: The first dealer makes the starting post. After that, a new dealer will start a new thread within the same post to signal that a new round has started. The Dealer will change when all pup's have revealed their hand.

Who wins hands? At this point, based on who has talked about playing, it is pretty clear that ultimately John Constantine will win the game. Some hands other pup's will win of course, wouldn't be too much fun if John won every single hand. I say first reveal, first choice of hand. Let's play nice though and not have each player get Royal Flushes each hand...that means you John. ; p

Order of betting, which will also be the order of reveal, will be dealer's bet first and the player to the dealer's right will have last bet. Play will be in a clockwise direction.

When pups are out of $$$: I think this would best be handled by when the player needs slow time or has to stop. Or if the players wants to have the pup move on or watch the action from the sidelines. Or just basic common sense as to how much the pup has been betting.

New players: I'm open to new players joining but maybe only after a pup already engaged in the game needs to leave? Or do we want to allow for the table to grow?

ETA: Changes in the rules.

Should we change dealer more often?

Unless there is an official non-playing dealer, in standard poker the dealer changes with every hand, rotating in a clockwise manner.

Would a new post per dealer be a good idea or would that just be flooding the comm?

When poker games have been run in the bar before, all the action has tended to take place within one main post. If necessary, new threads are started for the different player combinations.

Neither John nor John-mun has played poker in the bar before, so I defer to more knowledgeable heads. For example, how do we determine who gets dealt what?

As for the Matilda and blackjack question that you asked in a previous post, I figure we'll just wing it. I'll see how charitable John is feeling after the game. ;)

All right. I'm at work, so I don't have any IM available really, and will probably have to do quite a bit of slowtime. Will contacting you and other players via this thread be okay, or do we have some other method of conspiring?

I'm good with checking this thread for communications. :)

And re: the blackjack question: Sounds good to me! She's also going to be paying more attention than she ought to the kind of luck John's getting, and might want to keep playing poker against him just to see if it's a measurable phenomenon or not. *grin* The amount of money she'd sacrifice to this pursuit is debatable; I'm planning on having her get rich off cryptography in the near future, so she might have the dough to spare.

I personally have only vague knowledge of poker and therefore am not suggesting Luke for a player, but merely here to note that Luke would suck at it.

Ready to roll if you are.
