YO! I made a suggestion over on the DE post and Steph directed me to make it over to the general public, so I am obeying these orders as they have been made. Feel free to tell me if this is crazy/silly/whatever - I won't mind! I'm concussed, I know I'm crazy. I'm also bored as hell, which is what leads to shit like this.

I found a service today known as Twitter. Some of you may know about it, some of you may not. The purpose of it, for those of you who do it, is for quick blog-updates: 140 characters or less of a status updat. You can make as many or as little as you want, and it's basically a quick-ditch summary of some particular detail going on at the moment. For an example of one in action, you can find mine here.

So Mandy's abused little head put two and two together and said five, and I was thinking about the fact that throughout the history of the game, we've tried various ways to keep up summaries of the various plots of the game. While the pimp posts were originally started as a replacement for the lack of any sort of news feature, they only cover what people take the time to pimp. There's a lot more out there in the bar than what's featured, really. So! Here's my idea.

For those who are so inclined, if people kept up these things for their characters, and we had a master lj-post or website with a bunch embedded, it'd be an easy way to keep up with characters in the bar in ways that is harder to do from day-to-day. Rather than being dependant on one person to summarize a whole day, it's merely dependant on you yourself to type out 140 characters every time you make an entrance or an oom that summarizes how your character is at the end of it. Or make another update if you feel it's necessary! For example, if I were to make a twitter for Ikki, after threading with Coyote last night, I would have made a status update that went 'Migratory Birds can't fly any longer. Considering all the should have and would haves and getting nowhere fast.' And after my afternoon threads today are done, I would drop another status update.

So then if we each just took the time for this and updated it, and we had a master page that kept a running tab on each twitter, then there'd be a page that could be checked whenever one was curious about the various going-ons in the bar!

So. Whatcha guys think?

I like it. I keep picturing it as mini!Back Room.

Referring to the [livejournal.com profile] millichannel mention: that might be a good master page.`

Ooh, I like the sound of this. It'd be at least a partial solution for the tags fiasco, hm?

The dogged conservationist strikes again.

I think that's a good idea, though I think it could just as easily be done on those character's respective journals. Or we could use one of the existing summary communities, like [livejournal.com profile] millichannel, to post our own summaries, rather than relying on specific people to summarize threads.

Implementation is what makes me curious.

I am not against what I am hearing so far. I would like to know more of what is going on in all the canons and plot lines which circumnavigate the bar, and I do agree that the pimp posts aren't doing it.

They are a good way to go see what one person thought was the best writing/interaction of the night, but regardless (speaking as someone who's been pimped a few times, even) it's more like a popular 'come see this' notice. It's not telling people whats happening in plot, and half the time what is happening in a plot is sticky and connected and not something someone wants to link to in pimp because it is complicated.

My only issue problem I wonder with this is how you can mainline people actually doing it. Will they do it on their own? Will you have periodic times when you'll pop up and remind people to update? (I, personally, am horribly adhd at times and will forget these things all to together.)

Other things.....

What exactly would we put in these updates? And would we link to conversations/ooms/etc?

It's a very cool idea.

We also have a long languishing Milliwiki that could be spiffed up and sorted out for something similar.

Could Twitter links be added into character pages?

I think you should try and spearhead that -- MilliWiki updates, with Twitter pages. That way, the character can have a general description, and folks can update through Twitter instead of Wikipedia.

Omg. *wants so bad*

I was playing in that recently. It should be. It could be. It is awesome-able!
