Good morning, all! I'm currently in the process of infusing my cerebral matter with nigh incalculable amounts of a particularly fine Darjeeling.

Here's today's Daily Entertainment, Hypervelocitastic Hump Day Edition!

So, firstly, a question: at what point in canon did you have your pup first encounter Milliways? Why did you choose that particular point? Are you taking your pups through canon, or just ignoring canon like an alien redheaded stepchild?


If that doesn't grab your fancy, how about a modified game of Truth, Lie and Guess?

Deceptively Simple Instructions:

Canon: I took Raz in from mid-canon because her canon's serialized and wasn't done yet. She's now post-. Matilda I took in post-canon because I found it easier (doing OOMs for literary canons is hella tough). Imriel I bring from his calms-before-the-storm: the moments before canon dumps a bucket of plot over his head. Eventually he will figure out this pattern, I'm sure. XD

What the hell, Greg Land?

Most of my pups come from after canon, from where they were in canon when i apped them, or from a vague point (Death and Nanny.) Where the canon has continued on (like with Will), I've tried to stick as close as I can. I plan to do the same with Mel.

The reasoning behind this is very simple when you look at the pups who aren't current or who I apped with the intention of taking through canon: Karolina, Adam and Francesca. I just never got round to doing it, because I am unorganised and lame like that.

I lovelovelove canon plots. Unfortunately, I also somehow wind up being the one cracking the whip on them, and I am not much of a whip-cracker, as several plots that have fallen by the wayside can attest. *shamefaced* I am okay when everyone is tagging lots, but when it falls off and I have to prod -- nnnnot so much. I tend to bring characters in pre-canon; besides Hawkeye and Mulcahy (and Frank Burns, back in the day), who have a more fluid canon (M*A*S*H takes great liberties with time, and so can I!), I think I've brought most of mine in pre-canon. Tycho and Iella were the only ones who I brought in after a chunk of their canon had passed by, and I wound up resetting them back to early canon, anyway.

I just really like getting to play in the canon universes; there is a reason that I chose that character, after all, and often, a large part of it is loving the canon to bits and pieces. And who doesn't want to blow things up or explore "unwritten" scenes?

As for questioning -- I'm going to have to go with fighting_mad.

This is all in general, because I have way too many pups: I like to put all my pups into canon during bits I find most interesting, or life-changing to the character - that way, I can actually play canon out. Because I'm a nut like that.

And I'm also obsessed with backstory and context. If I don't have it in some form, I tend to lose interest in a pup very quickly, or I just keep them in a really funky sort of limbo. It's hard for me to ignore canon because - available backstory! It's there! It's what attracted me to the fandom in the first place, so why not use it?

I so agree. I endlessly like to review canon and find interesting bits and pieces to (hopefully) flesh out my characterization and find fun potentially plotty stuff to work with.

I pulled Ray out of the Ghostbusters movie during the scene where Gozer zaps everybody and they almost fall off the building. It seemed like the kind of thing that would allow him to pass through universes. I sent him back to finish canon, but on a whim sent him to a different continuity- the cartoon. He spent some time in that canon before finally returning to his own, and eventually playing through the events of Ghostbusters: Legion.

I pulled Wells out of Dog Soldiers during his last seconds on screen. It was the only way I could think of to justify him surviving the movie. His canon's over now. Annie came in two years post-Dog Soldiers.

The Great Librarian is pre-Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. He'll get there eventually.

Belar is post-canon. Turning Garion's world over to his baby brother frees him up to go wherever I want him to, after all.

Whistler... um, I still need to play him through canon along with Mother and Carl. *shameface* I'll be working on that this week.

Ironhide and Bumblebee are both post-movie canon. They won't be doing any further canon stuff until the TF movie sequel comes out, regardless of any comics or novels that might appear, and even then it remains to be seen how autocommander-mun wants to handle integrating the storyline.

And I just put Gordon Freeman through the first game in his canon. He won't be going back to the second game for a while; I want to get him a chance to put his brain back together after trauma like that, and I want to play through HL 2 and both the Episodes before even trying to get started there.

Elle came in pre-canon (for her), pretty much to stay consistent with the other Heroes players, and so I could play her through canon, as there are a few kind of major differences between her pre-canon and... post- or up to speed with canon, whatever.


Behrooz came in post-canon, which was difficult as he never really got a proper ending in canon because the 24 writers can suck mightily, but as his canon occurs mostly over the course of 15 hours, bringing him in and out of it wouldn't have made much sense, plus I was a newbie back then and didn't get all of that, anyway.


Jim now pretty much stays about a week behind current canon.

Canon: Post-TV canon for Mal, pretty much because it didn't occur to me to do anything different. Also that was where all of my canonmates were at the time.

SARAH: I did pre-canon, because canon is way too amusing, and I need to haul ass on actually playing that out.

Ned: ...Theoretically pre-main canon, since he only appears as a child in emotastic flashbacks.

Delysia: Pre-canon, since her entire canon is designed to only span the length of a day.

Sallie Reynolds: Her canon is...one sentence. I have no clue where in canon she is, except for the fact I keep her timeline concurrent with Mal's.

Normal Momiji initially came in sometime before Chapter 60 in the manga - i.e. the Sohmas' summer trip and him getting beat up, which is also the only canon-event that he's gone through.

Younger Momiji first came in just past the first canon point we have for him, just a bit after being moved out of his mother's and father's house, though I suppose it's also technically pre-canon, since we only see it in a flashback. By now, he's a few years past that event but still pre-canon.

Ganymede is, I guess, post-canon, like a lot of the mythpups. Given that he barely has any canon, that's not saying much, though.

Dahlia comes in somewhere during season one of The Riches, between when they move into Edenfalls and when Pete shows up.

I fully intend to take Momiji and Dahlia through canon, eventually, but they're both so family-focused that I'm really waiting for more canonmates, before I try it.

Man, on-going canon sucks... Thank goodness for AU!

My version of Tom Riddle was created between Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. Back then, I didn't think JKR would even reveal his mother's name much less his entire psychotic life story. *wry* I brought him in from 1954, when he was 27, as I wanted to play a younger version of Voldemort and not the nose-less one. The HP comm here split in 2005; some went with canon for the new book, and some stayed on an AU timeline. It was not an easy split, at the time, but we went our merry ways, and all turned out fine in the end.

Canon Ingress is technically still in between Neverwhere and the Sequel that Neil Mentioned But Will Probably Never Write. So she's happily AU, too. Lynette brought her, as well as Door, in six months after Neverwhere happenings.

Missouri will probably never be in another SPN episode, but she's sticking to the show timeline.

Bela is played two years pre-canon. THANK GOODNESS.

As for Mojo, I think he's sometime during the show's canon. I don't worry too much about his chronology.

Catherine Black is my only character who is going through canon.

I brought Atton in from the Telos battle in canon because ... Actually I don't think I had a reason, it was pretty much entirely arbitrary, if I had the choice now I'd bring him in pre-canon. I took him through canon (two different versions of it, even), and now he's post-canon where I just make things up as I go along.

As for when I bring my pups in...

I tend to bring them in before canon or in some quiet mid-point in canon. Tony Almeida, for example, came in before season four, which was a mid-point for him. Of course the reason why I did that was season for was about to come on when I began playing him here; that and there was a lot I could toy with at that time in his life.

Paul is likewise in a quiet midpoint...ish. As his canon is told mostly in a flashback you could say he's in after canon, but he's months before his canon actually begins, when he visits Joe Bell in his bar.

As for everyone else...

Harry Caul is pre-canon because I WANT TO PLAY OUT HIS CANON LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS.

Raymond Shaw is being taken through canon (I'm playing him I swears).

Fredo Corleone has the same problem as Paul Varjak in that there are flashbacks involved in his canon. But he comes in prior to the events of The Godfather (the film, not the book).

Simon Skinner came in prior to canon and probably will never go through canon.

Emma Peel is...vaguely going through canon.

James Bond.... Daniel Craig!Bond came in right after Casino Royale and Timothy Dalton!Bond is stuck between The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.

1941!Jack came in post-canon, because I didn't want to bring him in alive and then have to kill him. Hard enough to do that off-screen, as it were. Much to my surprise, Jack being dead has given him a large amount of freedom that I didn't expect and I'm very pleased with how he's handling his afterlife.

Green!Jack's canon doesn't really have a time, since he's just kind of there . . . he was in another game with a specific modern setting, and I basically just ported him over--thus getting to comment on modern life from the POV of someone who's seen everything.

archy is timeless :). It's 1927 for him, IIRC. Next time I have the brain power for him I may figure out if he's in a specific point in any of the books, but mostly he's just doin' his thing.

Ianto was brought in pre-Cyberwoman, since we were threading the episode at the time, and now is post-. This satisfies my angst jones so very, very much.

This can also be the questions post if anybody wants to ask my boys something.

is post canon, though I really wish I'd considered bringing her in through her canon in the end. But I love where she is so you know.

Star

has the world as her canon. So she just exists at all of us from it. Having no past made more sense with her meaning and future-focus.
