Will's night yesterday
Thread the first: Outside of Milliways
Will starts the night by attending Meg's ballet performance in 1883. They chat afterwards, and she compliments his French and his frock coat. Will is evasive about both, and they discuss dance trance and the fact that Will has never seen Swan Lake before. Meg is aghast. Then Meg scampers off to avoid her mother's lectures, and they both head to Milliways.
Thread the second: Altogether normal small talk
Will arrives, and waves to Jane Drew, who is on her way upstairs. She returns her diary to her room and comes back down to chat. They talk about Valentine, get Cokes (which Kibeth pays for), and move to a table to talk about vacations. It becomes clear very quickly that Jane has no memory of being upset last night, which Will is already aware of. Jane goes to bed.
Thread the third: Messing with the Old One's head
Will then spots Yrael across the room -- Yrael, who is currently in the shape of a young albino man -- and briefly mistakes him for his friend from his own world, Bran Davies. He soon realizes his mistake, but is still unsettled. Yrael, on the other hand, is in an excellent mood, and working his way towards drunk. Will realizes that Yrael is no longer bound as Mogget. Yrael continues to inadvertantly unsettle Will by giving him metheglyn. (It is not remotely inadvertant on the part of Yrael's mun, however.) They discuss Time, and Peter arrives. Yrael, now thoroughly tipsy, heads off to sleep in his box. Will and Peter discuss Jane, and then Peter tells Will about Sirius and Skandra's departure.
Thread the fouth: The threadzilla
In another timeline, or possibly simply after the last conversation -- thank you, Milliways time -- Will is greeted by Meg, who's disappointed that he's no longer in 19th century evening wear. Will apologizes for being boring, and Meg buys him a drink. They discuss the bar's dislike of Meg, and discover the mutual incomprehension inherent in a conversation between a city girl and a country boy about the merits of the woods. Meg extols the joys and landmarks of Paris, satisfies herself that Will has at least seen a few of them, and extracts a promise that Will will live in Paris someday. (He'll keep his promise, too.) They discuss immortal ankles, and Meg asks Will to come to the bar in his frock coat sometime. After a moment of bemusement, he does so. Meg applauds, and they discuss hobbies, siblings, and the usefulness of having lots (a ballet troupe! A choir! The artistic possibilities are endless), Muses, and names.
Meanwhile, in a sort of parallel continuity, Moiraine comes over. They discuss Meg's performance and whether or not Will is a good judge of her dancing's merit. Moiraine and Will, needing to be circumspect in front of Meg, have a very carefully worded conversation about Liz's mental state and Rand's arrival. Moiraine wants Will to meet Rand. Will agrees readily, but suspects that there's more to her request than a desire to introduce her friends to each other. He's right. Their conversation becomes even more full of double meanings, and then starts to sound like the Cosmic Battle edition of spy-movie codephrases when Will adds telepathy to the mix. Moiraine wants his Old One's opinion on Rand, and he agrees.
Meg, fidgeting, accidentally reveals her hurt wrist. Moiraine Heals it, and then delicately questions her about the source of the injury. Meg hedges, but finally names names. Moiraine is splendidly uninformative, in the best Aes Sedai tradition, about whether or not she'll do anything with the information.
Moiraine remembers that she has something else to tell Will. Cue more circumspectness. This time, it's about Anthy, so Meg snaps to attention. She calls Anthy her friend, and Will and Moiraineinterrogate her are calmly curious. She tells them that Anthy is miserable and mired in an eons-long abusive relationship, and that she tried to kill herself. Neither Moiraine nor Will is properly sympathetic. Will backs off when Meg flares up, but remains privately unconvinced. Meg points out to Will that the world isn't black and white. The muns snicker, and Will takes a page from Moiraine's book and speaks truths that don't actually answer the question. They both go to bed, and so do their muns, who are by this time dead of the sleepy.
Oy. That was loooong.
Edit: Okay, I think all the html is actually correct this time...
