No More Secret Pups.

So, for the benefit of the two people who did not knew already:

Both are mine.

Feel free to hate.

*scratches head in confusion*

Obviously, I am missing something. But!

I have enjoyed interacting with both. Uhhh, just so you know.

Well... as far as I'm concerned a guy playing female characters is no different than a girl playing male characters... though I have found that male RPers seem to be a rare breed.

Don't worry, plenty of guys play female pups.

I know who you are.

:)

And I enjoy playing with you. Both your male and female characters. And I happen to know that you never hide the fact you are a man. I remember when I first started chatting with you I refered to you as a she and you corrected me. It was no big deal to me.

My main gripe is that I think all Milliways men should use their expertise into the male psyche to play men. We have too many characters that are gay simply because most of us girls mainly know how to be romantically involves with males, so the writing comes easier. (At least, that's how I view it. Please don't hate me, muns of gay characters.)

Anyway, the point is: more males played by males are needed. :D?

And yet, with all the dudes playing chicks, the bar has very few lesbians. How would you explain that?

I know you don't mean this to mean this, but it almost looks as if you're saying that gay men aren't men.

Edit to note that I play one of the few male homophobic characters in the game, and I'm a chick.

Oh, definitely not saying that! I can see how you would see it that way, truly, but I would never put down homosexuality, in real or fictional people. What I was trying to get across was the fact that I notice people like to write based on experience-- I do, as well!-- and I feel like girls take an unclear canon and make their male characters gay because it's easier for them, based on experience, to RP characters who are romantically interested in men.

I hope that makes sense. I don't mean to insult anyone.

What about all the girls playing guys who are straight? I have four characters and they're all male and straight*, and I'm a girl.

* Though one of them is a pillar of Evil, one of them has emotional problems and privately considers himself taken, one is in a gradually stabilizing relationship with the girl of his dreams, and one is the world's best and worst flirt.

[personal profile] mm_madb 2008-06-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to object purely because what we need are characters who are enjoyed by the people playing them. They may not all be to my taste, I may not enjoy playing with all the characters for various reasons, but as long as the people playing them are having fun then it really doesn't matter what sex, or sexuality either character or player is.

I have a fairly equal balance of male and female characters. I object to the idea that I should give up my males because I'm not male just as much as I object to the idea that men should give up their females just because they are male. I also object to the idea that men should be pushed to pick up more male characters, if that's not their thing then that is not their thing.

I'd be interested to know your stance on non-gendered or other-gendered characters (the Cybertronians, the Yith, the Kitsune, other shape-shifters, plants, etc).

...needed by whom?

If people are enjoying themselves, that's rather the point.

You sound personally uncomfortable with the idea of blurring gender lines,
to be honest, and while that's your business, expecting other people to
play only what you can agree with as 'proper' writing...*headshake*

Actually my gay male character is gay because he is gay in canon, not because I only know how to be romantically involved with males*. The ~vast majority~ of my male characters in this game (and by vast majority I mean all but three, and trust me, that's a small number) have been straight, because they've been clearly marked as straight in canon. Or manly, according to that spectacular gaffe you made at the beginning of your comment. Oh, well. Foot-in-mouth disease has been going around quite a bit this year.

* Speaking of spectacular gaffes -- actually, not every woman only knows how to be romantically involved with men. Which, I'm sure you know, and I'm sure those who know how to be romantically involved with women have said, so I'll just put a word in for those women who haven't been romantically involved with anyone.

I play all males (not that I think gender matters at all, so long as you connect with a character), and one of them is verging on gay. And yet I can quite comfortably RP hetero too. So I am a man that plays men.. yet, I also play several gay men because I myself am gay. Just because a guy rps a guy, doesn't mean they're going to automatically be straight. There's already plenty of straight males in Milliways anyways.

People have already said my first gripe with this comment.

My second one is, well. Why are you assuming that if a male character is interested in another male character, he is therefore gay?

And actually, why are you assuming that it is any easier?

Enh, as someone who's got a long track record of causing RP partners to go "wait, you're female?" I totally understand about the gender assumption thing. No worries.
